I Will Become the Queen of the Enemy Country

The Price of Pride

Salamander was a monster that resembled a lizard.

It was a monster known as the ruler of fire, and while its fire attack spewed from its mouth was not comparable to a dragon’s breath, it was powerful enough to turn anyone in front of it into ashes in an instant.

Inside the second gate, which it ruled, was as hot as a furnace.

The monsters living there were completely immune to fire magic attacks, and as you got closer to the center, the heat became so intense that it was hard to breathe.

“Prepare the ice magic.”

The magicians stepped forward. The members of the subjugation force took off their armor to prevent burns and turned their cloaks inside out.

It was the equipment that Elise had prepared for David.

As a legion of over a hundred people moved, it took quite a while to prepare.

“Those guys are slow.”

Karan’s warriors, who had already finished preparing, looked at David’s knights while leaning on their spears.

“We’re not done preparing either.”

Elise, who had been fiddling with something on Karan’s back for a while, straightened up and spoke.

“Would you line up in front of me?”

“Huh? Why?”

“If I tell you to line up, you line up. Why are you asking why? Are you going to question my orders too?”

When Karan immediately frowned, the person who had asked the reason pursed his lips and slowly backed away.

“Your Highness, of course you would be curious. I’ll explain.”

Elise was an angel. If it were him, he would have already been choked.

Karan couldn’t ignore Elise’s touch pulling him back. He had no choice but to quietly step back.

Instead, he glared from behind her.

The warriors, who had been eating together for over two years, understood well the threat that if they didn’t move quickly, they would be whipped.

“I’m first, Miss Elise!”

Haltbin stood in front of Elise. Elise pulled the bottom of Haltbin’s top.

Elise’s magic pen slid on the taut fabric.

The pen moved back and forth to the point of dizziness if you kept watching. Elise didn’t even breathe while drawing that complex magic circle.

“It’s done.”

Phew, Elise, who took a deep breath, put away her pen. A pattern the size of a baby’s palm was engraved on the hem of Haltbin’s clothes.

“What is this? It’s very pretty.”

“It will block the heat. It’s not as good as shield magic though.”

While she couldn’t use shield magic that directly blocks heat or ice magic that suppresses heat, Elise knew how to draw a magic circle that cools the fabric.

“Oh, it’s already cool?”

“The effect appears immediately.”

The sweat on Haltbin’s forehead cooled.

“That’s amazing? Don’t we have to wear more clothes?”

Thump. Karan, who saw Elise smiling at Haltbin’s nonsense, quickly approached and hit his back.

When he swung his big hand mercilessly, even Haltbin, who had been hit enough to feel pained, twisted his body and made a fuss.

The warriors who had watched all the fuss flocked around Elise.

They shook off Haltbin as if plucking radish and jostled for the front row.

The grown men surrounded Elise, and she was completely hidden.

“Stop moving!”

At the loud voice, the warriors froze as if they had made eye contact with Medusa’s head.

Karan pushed aside the warriors and pulled Elise close to him.

“One at a time, in order. From now on, don’t talk, don’t be surprised, and don’t make a fuss.”

“It sounds like you’re telling us to shut up, Your Highness.”

Haltbin made a comment. Karan’s already sharp gaze became even sharper.

Haltbin covered his mouth with his hand. The other warriors quickly followed Haltbin’s lead.

Seeing the large figures covering their mouths and lining up while hopping around, Elise burst into laughter.

There was no tension to suggest that these people were about to embark on a gate subjugation.

They were quite different from the members of Bedrokka who were preparing near the gate entrance.

“Ugh, I think I’m going to vomit.”

Some of the members of Bedrokka showed symptoms of heat stroke, and some were shaking with extreme tension.

The deep-rooted fear of gates, monsters, and dragons overwhelmed them.

It was quite a different sight from the warriors of Tetris, who had been fighting monsters intermittently and had been educated about monsters from a young age.

David, who was calmly preparing and even laughing at the Tetris camp, sighed.

‘My father will try to make the merit of the gate subjugation Bedrokka’s, but well.’

David’s gaze was drawn to the reporter who had come with him. Even though they hadn’t met a monster yet, the reporter’s pen-wielding hand was busy.

It seemed like he was planning to write an epic, not an article.

Looking at Karan and Elise, David thought.

‘It seems we will be the underlings.’

But it was impossible to retreat without even trying.

David, who had stepped forward as the vanguard, vowed to do his best and organized the ranks.

“When the sages cool down the heat, the first squad will enter. When the first squad is fighting the monsters, the second squad will secure the passage. The third squad will wait outside and move flexibly depending on the situation inside.”

Elise and Karan, who had finished preparing and joined the Bedrokka camp, quietly listened to David’s tactical explanation.

“According to the monster sightings in the vicinity, there is a high possibility that skeletons exist inside the gate.”

“Do you mean skeletons as in skulls?”

One knight with basic knowledge of monsters asked.

“That’s right.”

“How can we kill them?”

David looked at Karan.

“You have to smash their skulls.”

“It’s nothing. Just smash their heads, right?”

Karan’s casual attitude made the knights quickly puff up.

The warriors of Tetris, including Haltbin, raised one corner of their mouths.

“Half of those guys will run out crying.”

“The other half will crawl out exhausted.”

Skeletons had considerable attack power, as their weaknesses were clear.

According to one theory, skeletons were created by those who were obsessed with swords in the past and could not let go of their obsession with swords even after death, walking the path of monsters themselves.

As they were people who didn’t want to let go of their swords even in death, what could their skills be?

There were many cases where one was beheaded before smashing the skull of the skeleton due to carelessness.

“We’ll tie their feet.”

The sages stepped forward.

“Oh, if the sages just hold their legs, we’ll smash their heads in one fell swoop!”

When one aggressive knight shouted out loud, a cheer to boost morale followed.

“Of course, the scared ones raise their voices first.”

“I bet one gold coin that guy dies first.”

“Ugh, that’s too cheap. Please bet about ten gold coins.”

As David’s speech got longer, the chatter of the Tetris warriors increased.

Karan looked at Elise with a grimace. He was worried that she might be disappointed hearing the warriors’ trivial jokes, but Elise was focused on David’s words.

Fortunately, but a little upset, Karan asked a question that didn’t need to be asked.

“Elise, is there a possibility of success?”

The answer was clear just by looking at Elise’s expression.

David’s strategy is a failure.

“If the sages use ice magic to lower the temperature, it will only provoke the Salamander more. The view will blur as the ice melts rapidly. And if you get attacked by the skeleton then…”

“It would be a total annihilation.”

Elise pursed her lips straight. The sight of her being careful even to mention someone’s death resonated in Karan’s heart.

“Are you going to help?”

He wished she wouldn’t, but he thought kind Elise would naturally help.

“No.”

But the words from her mouth were unexpected. Karan tilted his head.

“They won’t listen to me anyway.”

Elise watched the sages looking at the subjugation force with a gloomy face.

The sages were arrogant, believing only in magic.

‘In the previous life, they acted as if they could solve everything.’

The power of magic was indeed great, but just as there is no panacea that works for all diseases, it didn’t work for all monsters.

In fact, physical attacks dealt much more damage to monsters that use magic attacks than the same magic attacks.

But it took time for the sages to accept that fact.

Even after the fact was revealed, the magicians caused problems because they couldn’t accept that they could be less than mere knights for a while.

So even if she steps forward and speaks now, they won’t listen to Elise’s words.

She would be finger-pointed for being ignorant about magic, or ridiculed for wanting to gain merit without ability.

“There are things you realize only after you break.”

And there is a difference from the previous life. David is the overall commander.

‘I hope His Highness David makes a decision quickly.’

“What should we do?”

Haltbin, who had been waiting for Elise and Karan’s conversation to end, stuck his head between them.

“What to do. Just do as you have been.”

“Do as we have been then…”

“Kill…deal with whatever comes at you, and move forward.”

“Isn’t there a meticulous plan like last time?”

There’s a world of difference between having a guide and not.

If they had subjugated the gate without a guide from the beginning, they wouldn’t know, but once they had a comfortable subjugation, they desperately needed a guide.

Karan looked at Elise.

“The second gate is…”

The moment Elise opened her mouth, there was a loud explosion, and steam billowed up at the gate entrance.

Everyone witnessed the scene where arrogance caused damage.
