“Are you ready, Lady Warton?”
Elise Warton.
Once considered the disgrace of the nobility, the enigma of the magical world, and the scum of high society, was now ready to ascend to the most noble position.
In the mirror was a woman with captivatingly raised eyebrows, emerald-green eyes reminiscent of the gemstone, and a delicate and graceful face.
“You look even more beautiful today.”
Regina, Elise’s maid, said as she combed her golden hair.
Elise lifted the corners of her mouth.
She was quite pleased with her reflection in the mirror.
“Finally, His Majesty is going to propose! I wonder what he has prepared?”
Elise’s eyes fluttered with overwhelming emotion.
“Regina, restrain yourself.”
Elise was also excited. However, instead of chattering with excitement, she calmed down the excited Regina.
“Aren’t you excited, my lady? Aren’t you nervous? It’s a proposal you’ve been waiting for for 10 years!”
Elise bowed her head. Her cheeks flushed. It was an overly innocent smile for a woman nearing her thirties.
But it was a fitting expression for a woman about to get married.
How could Elise not be nervous?
As Regina said, it was something she had been waiting for 10 years, no, if she counted from the first time she met Chase, it would be a whopping 14 years.
However, she was just restraining herself because she had been disappointed many times after being inflated with expectations.
“If you’re ready, let’s go, my lady.”
Chase’s aide urged from outside.
Regina fixed Elise’s hair in a twist, revealing her neck.
The long and graceful line of her neck was something Elise herself admired.
Chase Royal Bedrokka.
The king of this country, her lord, and her lover.
“Ready, let’s go.”
As Elise stood up, the servants lined up behind her bowed deeply.
Elise slowly crossed the corridor of the royal palace.
Administrative officials working in the palace, gatekeepers, wandering knights, everyone greeted Elise and made way for her.
Despite having nothing but the title of a noblewoman, people didn’t find it strange that she was walking around the palace as if it were her own.
There was a reason for everything.
It was because Elise had raised Chase, the king’s second son, who lost his mother and support base at an early age, to the throne.
“Will you do it with me?”
Elise’s lips curled into a faint smile as she recalled the time when he, who had been oppressed by the former queen, came to the noblewoman and nervously extended his hand.
The Warton family at the time did not welcome Chase, who was skinny, worthless, and out of the king’s favor.
However, Elise’s father, Fraser Warton, was not in a position to refuse a marriage proposal from the royal family.
Nor was he a loyal man who would give the royal family what they wanted.
The royal family wanted Elise’s sister, Iris.
However, Fraser had no intention of gambling with Iris’s marriage, who was going to be the pride of the Warton family.
So, instead of Iris, he put Elise in front of Chase.
Unlike Iris, she was a second daughter who was worthless and talentless, just like a nuisance in the family.
Fortunately, Elise liked Chase, who needed her.
It was when she was 15 years old, and Chase was 18 years old.
Elise poured everything she had into Chase. With Elise’s sacrifice and dedication, Chase grew day by day.
She even poured out her magic crafting skills, which she had only hidden because she was ashamed to show them anywhere.
Thanks to her, Chase became the undisputed best swordsman.
“Elise, if people find out you’re doing the work of lowly half-bloods, they’ll laugh at you.”
Of course, all the work was credited to Chase, and Elise’s existence was thoroughly hidden.
Ellis understood it all. Because his words were true.
The ability she possessed was more of a disaster than a talent from Elise’s perspective.
Drawing simple magic circles, unlike casting magic directly, was a menial task done by half-bloods born between humans and elves.
Elise, who couldn’t become a wizard due to her small amount of innate mana, was a disgrace to the nobility.
But it was helpful to Chase. Thus Elise honed her abilities.
“Elise! Father wants to see me! He said we’d go hunting! Just the two of us.”
Three years after working together with Chase, the king, who had never paid attention to him, began to show interest in Chase.
It was right after the business conducted in Chase’s name had yielded results.
“You are my goddess of fortune. Elise, when I meet my father today, I’m going to tell him I want to marry you. I have no one but you. You are my luck and my goddess.”
Chase composed and dedicated a love poem every day.
Then one day, Chase declared with a serious face.
“I’m going to be greedy for you. I want to be the king.”
“Your Highness, I don’t covet the queen’s position. I’m happy just being with you.”
“No, Elise. I’m going to give you the highest position.”
From then on, Chase changed. Every action had an intention, and he didn’t hesitate to make unreasonable requests to her.
“Ellis, I need money. Can you take care of the promissory notes and borrow money?”
“Your Highness, are you suggesting we use loan sharks?”
“Loan sharks… When you say it like that, it makes me sound like a bad person. Money doesn’t have a name tag, Elise. How much is the promissory note you have?”
Chase’s greed grew day by day. Elise had to do things close to crime to satisfy Chase’s greed.
Chase bought people’s hearts with money. But in the end, he couldn’t buy the king’s heart.
Eventually, he asked Elise to do something irreversible.
“David, my brother, needs to be removed. Elis, can you help?”
Elise couldn’t readily step forward at Chase’s request to remove David, the first prince.
David was Chase’s competitor and enemy, but he wasn’t a bad person.
But her hesitation didn’t last long. She wanted to get out of the nobility and marry Chase as soon as possible.
A blessed marriage, a warm family, and a child who resembled her and Chase.
Elise closed her eyes tightly for her dream.
Elise pinned all sorts of accusations on the crown prince.
Illegal drug distribution, leaking of magic secrets, attempted assassination of Chase, and so on.
She knew it was wrong, but she couldn’t help it.
For Chase.
“How dare you harm my husband! You think I’ll let you off?”
Iris, Elise’s sister and David’s wife at the time, rushed with momentum.
Her downfall, who ignored and tormented Elise, diluted Elise’s sense of guilt.
“You reap what you sow, sister.”
David was stripped of his position and locked in a tower. He ended his own life in agony over the false charges attached to him.
Chase became the crown prince. And malicious rumors about Elise began to circulate.
“They say that woman was directly involved in illegal drug distribution.”
“Did you see the nail marks on Prince Chase’s neck? She’s old and yet so flirtatious. Poor Prince Chase.”
Elise tried to actively defend herself, but Chase stopped her. He said that if she ignores the rumors, they will die down. But the rumors grew bigger.
“They say she even took away and drove out her family’s property? She’s so extravagant.”
But it was okay. Because she had Chase.
She believed as solid as iron that if she married Chase, all misunderstandings would be resolved.
“Elise, the public opinion is not good. I’ll go to the banquet alone. My heart is always with you. You understand, right?”
Even when Chase, who became the crown prince, started to leave her alone, she believed.
“Lady Elise! Do you know who attended this party? Lady Iris attended. Even more, His Highness escorted her! Can you believe it?”
Chase explained to Elise, who was questioning what was going on.
“I asked Iris to entertain the wives of the diplomatic corps. There was someone among the wives of the diplomatic corps who liked Iris. And Iris is excellent at entertaining.”
At some point, Iris’s name began to be heard frequently from Chase’s mouth.
When Elise felt uncomfortable, he hugged her and comforted her.
“Are you jealous? You’re the only one for me, Elise. It’s just about entrusting the work to someone who does it well. We’re using Iris.”
She couldn’t not believe it.
“Your Highness, our marriage…”
“Elise, wait a little longer for the marriage. I want to be the man who suits you.”
Chase was consistent.
If he becomes a king. If that’s what it takes.
Elise clenched her fist. She vowed to quickly seat him in that position.
Girl…. Loves Fool is what you’re being right now. No- obsessive would be a better term; there’s no way you didn’t see the warning signs and red flags… 😭
If she didn’t want to harm the innocent crow prince and also not want the crown then she shound not have done it, now i feel a little bad for the poor David… 🙁
