I Thought a Villainess' Divorce Would Be Easy

CHAPTER 007

Rosa, who thought that the mother Anthea was talking about was her real mother, had no hesitation. On the contrary, the knights who were her guards recalled the countess crying desperately, calling Anthea her darling and begging to be allowed to accompany her. Before they could point out her rudeness, Anthea took a step closer. Rosa did not erase her smile, thinking that if the head maid slapped her cheek or cried out, she would humiliate her by talking about her veins. Contrary to Rosa’s expectations, Anthea dropped her thick shawl from her shoulders to the floor. Rosa, who had been watching with her hands shaking, was taken aback when Anthea grabbed the dress that was wrapped around her shoulders and tried to pull it down.

“W-what are you doing?”

“You said it needed to get tested.”

Anthea, who looked innocent but thought she was stupid, hurriedly approached Rosa.

“I’ve seen all the luggage you brought, so it’s done.”

“Why? You said we shouldn’t bring anything dangerous into the Duke’s house.”

Rather, Anthea took a step back and pulled down her dress enough to expose her shoulders. The workers who had been standing motionlessly moved for the first time as if they were surprised.

“All right. I will guide you to a place to change.”

“You don’t look like you have a lot of time.”

Anthea took a step back and lowered her hand holding her dress a little more.

“Have you not had time to tear my first dress as Duchess to shreds and pulverize my family legacy? So, you should get it checked quickly.”

The knights turned their heads or closed their eyes at the dress that was cut so low that it almost seemed like their underwear was visible. The maid Jang hurriedly approached and tried to pull up Anthea’s dress. Anthea, who twisted her body to avoid her hand and came closer to Rosa, spoke for the first time in her real voice without any hint of charm.

“Either leave me here, or apologize for your rudeness.”

The sound was small enough to be heard only by Rosa, who was standing closest, but unlike the sorrow she had shown so far, it was solid. She knew that this would happen, so Anthea tried to remain calm, but when she remembered the countess’s tearful face, saying that she was glad she could at least take care of this, she couldn’t bear it anymore.

“Take responsibility for your actions.”

Rosa now wondered if there was something wrong with her ears. Anyone belonging to the dukedom could never treat Rosa like this. She couldn’t have imagined that the innocent, yet stupid-looking Viscountess would say such outrageous things to her. At best, she thought she would either cry and run away or attack her impulsively. Anthea had tears in her eyes, but that was all she did. She did not have the energy of a young girl who smiled innocently.

While Rosa, stunned, was silent for a moment, Anthea raised her voice slightly enough for others to hear.

“In such a hurry, you just damaged it beyond repair. You should hurry and check my clothes too.”

Then, as if she had strengthened her resolve, Anthea pulled down her dress that reached her shoulders.

“Young lady!”

However, Rosa’s hand, which was already holding the hem of her Anthea dress together, gave strength, and rather than taking it off, she was instead put back on.

“Does the young lady have no sense of shame? Even with women, there is no such thing as showing one’s inner self among nobles.”

With her attitude showing no intention of apologizing, Rosa instead scolded Anthea. They were a foreigner family that knew neither etiquette nor shame. Anthea knew that her maid Jang would not back down to this extent. Even so, she thought that if she acted this hard, she would be able to get through to some extent, but Rosa was no pushover.

‘Even in her original work, even when sympathy was briefly formed for Anthea, who was in a rut, she persevered in mistreating her.’

Right away, she was able to examine in detail what Rosa had done. If Anthea pulls down her clothes enough to expose her underwear in front of the checkpoint right before she steps into the Duke’s palace, it is known that the reason for this is Rosa’s excessive level of checkpointing. No matter how much she was the maid who came to care for the dukedom as she pleased, she could be held accountable. If we were to question her responsibility, the Duke’s employees who were on Rosa’s side could also agree with Anthea’s words. But would that really help Anthea? Although she did not have much time left, the bride-to-be, who had not yet had her coming-of-age ceremony, took off her clothes and showed an indecent act as soon as she arrived at the Duke’s house where her husband would become her husband. She was not only scandalous, but could even lead to rumors of insanity. It’s okay for her to look like a villainess, but if she looks like she’s lost her temper, she’s in trouble. Moreover, Anthea’s position was at a disadvantage for her to overthrow her here.

‘Should I take a step back first?’

Anthea lowered her head and wrapped her arms around her shoulders, which were naturally trembling due to the cold. She completely erased her tone that was small but strong enough for only Rosa to hear, and once again created a soft voice that felt pure.

“It’s my grandmother’s memento… My mother cherished her so much, but you don’t even apologize to her?”

“She would have said it was a procedure,” she said. “Do you not even know her differences that well?”

“You’re doing it too much. All I had was one dress and a set of accessories.”

Anthea’s sorrow was clearly felt as she cried and complained. The eyes of the servants and knights turned to the torn dress and broken necklace as she fell to the floor. It was the only trousseau item brought by the delicate girl, who was crying and demanding that even the clothes she was wearing be inspected. She went through an indignity that was difficult to see as a future Duchess, and everyone who saw Anthea’s small, shivering, cold body felt sorry for her. Rosa, the only one left unaffected, raised her chin and pounded Anthea.

“Aren’t you ashamed that you did something that lowered the dignity of the dukedom?”

“But my mother gave it to me…”

“I’ll equip you with items worthy of a Duchess, so stop whining.”

She was whining. Even though she was originally a viscount, it was not something she could say to someone who would soon become a Duchess. She glanced at the maid, wondering if even the duchy’s servants could talk so carelessly. As Anthea’s eyes filled with tears, Rosa straightened her shoulders as if she had finally gotten along.

“Oh my, you’re throwing a tantrum like a child. It must be a lot of work.”

Rosa lifted her stiff lips, thinking that the foolish lady had finally understood. How dare you climb on the subject of a self-made daughter? Rosa was elated thinking that, but the people around her watching the situation were not like that. The bride-to-be, who arrived at the Duke’s house after a month-long journey, was shivering with her bare shoulders exposed in the northern cold. It was pitiful that her crouched body looked so small, as if she would collapse at any moment.

Arthur, the vice-captain of the knights, who had been watching her with more restlessness than anyone else, could no longer bear it and moved. Arthur picked up her shawl that had fallen on the floor, dusted it off with his rough hands, and wrapped it around Anthea’s delicate shoulders.

“Daughter of Viscount Lanfis. No, my lady.”

“Yes-yes? Me?”

Anthea turned her head in embarrassment and saw the bridge of her nose and the corners of her eyes turning bright red. Her tears, which seemed to burst at any moment, were as bright as the jewels on her dress. While Arthur held his breath for a moment at her lovely yet pathetic appearance, Rosa nervously approached him.

“Lord Mogens, you saw the lady and said she was your madam.”

“Now that she has arrived at the duke’s residence, it is appropriate to treat her as madam.”

“It’s not like that. Until you go through the oath ceremony, you are still a lady. Are you disrespecting tradition, which is unbecoming of Lord Mogens?”

Arthur seemed shaken for a moment at the mention of the dukedom’s tradition, but then shook his head.

“I will be careful about titles. Now, let’s take this person who has been languishing in the carriage for a month inside.”

As he said that, Arthur glanced at Rosa and then looked back at the knights lined up around the carriage.

“Our mission is to escort the lady to the mansion, everyone stay in formation!”

“Yes! All aligned!”

“Wait a minute, Lord Mogens!”

Despite Rosa’s nervous calls, Arthur calmly tried to carry Anthea into a small carriage. Anthea, who was looking at Rosa and Arthur alternately, turned her body towards Arthur. Then Rosa could not stand it anymore and blocked Anthea’s path.

“I don’t think you understand yet that you can only go in if I give permission.”

“Headmaid, no, Rosa Miles. Why on earth are you doing this? This person will soon become our master, right?”

“Lord Mogens. You don’t seem to know the importance of this. To accept outsiders as the Duke’s mistress. It has to be done thoroughly.”

What Rosa said was not wrong. While Arthur hesitated to answer, Rosa asked back.

“Or are you mistaken that a lady who has not yet made a formal oath is higher than the Duke’s name?”

It was natural for an outsider to come in as a bride unless it was his cousin, but Rosa was sensitive as if a thief had come in. Since she hated it so much, she must have tormented Anthea until the end. In the original, she didn’t know that she hated Anthea so intensely that she was trapped in her true self.

“Excuse me…”

She felt like it was a waste of time that she spent smiling even though she suffered from motion sickness for a whole month because she had to make trouble for the Knight Commander who had been on her side for the most part. At the sound of Anthea timidly calling, Arthur and Rosa turned around at the same time.

“Head Maid? Can I call you Rosa Mile?”

“I don’t need to be called by my name. If we have unnecessary intimacy, it will be uncomfortable for both of us. Please call me Chief Maid.”

“Hmm… Yes, head maid. Then, if I go with Head Maid Rosa, can I come in?”

Anthea, who had already walked towards the maid, walked slightly ahead of her, and Rosa followed her, frowning as if she was annoyed.

“Ha… I said ‘head maid’ is enough. I really have a lot of things to teach in the future.”

Although Rosa said she had so much to teach, she did not correct Anthea to teach her. She clicked her tongue as if she was just pathetic, but she also raised the corner of her lips as if she was satisfied with the existence of the incompetent Duchess, whom she seemed to be able to manipulate as she pleased. In Anthea’s eyes, Rosa may have the ability to manage the duchy, but her character was poor. Now that he was looking at Rosa, who was so brave, he didn’t want to give in to her.

“Then don’t teach me.”

Although they were a little far away from the knights, the servants were still close. Nevertheless, Anthea showed a harmless smile and calmly revealed her true feelings.

“I have no intention of learning either.”
