Chapter 4: Magic Crazy
“Magic… Magic!”
A day had passed since I possessed this body, and now, I realized once again that this was no dream. It was a different world, a world where magic was an everyday concept. I could use magic with my own hands, something I had only dreamed of.
“However, I don’t remember anything from the classes I’ve taken so far. I’ll have to start from scratch…”
Luckily, it was summer vacation, and I wouldn’t have any private tutor lessons for a while. I had this time to regain my knowledge. With the power I had as Zenon, I should be able to catch up. I couldn’t possibly lack talent.
“All right!”
I pumped myself up and headed to the mansion’s library. There should be books about how to use magic and its theories.
“Modern Magic Basics… Basics of Mana Manipulation… Well, I guess I’ll just have to read through them all.”
I brought these books to my room and started reading. Since I was in Zenon’s body, there was a possibility that I couldn’t even read the text, but conveniently, I managed to decipher it somehow. It wasn’t in Japanese at all, but Zenon must have had something like semantic memory.
Two hours later…
“I see. I understand.”
I read through the material at a pace that made it seem like I had known it all along, or perhaps I did know it all along, thanks to Zenon’s inherent knowledge.
“Magic isn’t about intuition but theory. It’s all in your head.”
In this world, magic wasn’t the kind where you just chanted some words and made magic happen. It involved drawing magic circles with mana and infusing them with mana to cast spells. If you drew the wrong circle or mismanaged your mana, the spell wouldn’t work, or worse, it could lead to a mana surge and explode.
“Heh… I really have to thank Zenon for this.”
By the way, do you know about the ability called “Camera Eye”?
It’s a special ability explicitly mentioned even in modern-day Japan. It allows you to memorize things like a camera and retain the memory of something you’ve seen once.
Zenon, it turns out, was born with this ability and could perfectly memorize various magic circles at a single glance. It was written in the official guidebook, and even after I possessed him, it seemed his ability was still active, as I had already memorized the content of the books I read.
“Mana manipulation… Mana… Is this it?”
Without further ado, I decided to put it into practice. I closed my eyes to sense mana. When I concentrated, I could feel a viscous energy residing inside my body, somewhere different from my internal organs. This was likely mana.
I released mana from my fingertips and began to draw a magic circle in the air. However, it wasn’t a complete manual process. By strongly visualizing it in my mind, the magic circle automatically formed, emphasizing the importance of memorization. Thankfully, I had a Camera Eye.
After completing the magic circle, I infused it with mana and muttered, “Light Ball.”
In an instant, a ball of light appeared from the magic circle, illuminating the surroundings.
“This is magic… Haha, amazing. I don’t even understand the principles behind it.”
Ah, it’s incredible. Magic is so fascinating; I can’t believe something like this exists in the world.
“By the way, it’s ironic that the first magic I used after the dark awakening was light magic.”
Light magic is synonymous with heroes, after all. Thinking about meeting that annoying hero three years from now is quite depressing. Well, I’ll do my best to avoid any unnecessary interactions and make sure I can defend myself if something happens.
“There are so many different types of magic, aren’t there? I want to learn more, explore more about magic. How can I ignore something this fascinating!”
