In Carlo’s hand was a pink diamond that radiated a brilliant light. There were extremely few pink diamonds that radiated such pure light, and none of that size. It was truly ‘top class’ and Viola had seen it before.
‘I gave that to Viscount Seall.’
It was the pink diamond Viola gifted to Viscount Seall as a sign of respect and consolation.
‘Why is it here?’
Viola was soon able to deduce the situation without much difficulty. Seall was a noble among nobles, a true noble, and wouldn’t use the pink diamond for self-interest. After thinking about how to use this pink diamond in a valuable way, he sent it to Chief Designer Carlo.
‘This… He must have thought it would open up a path for me.’
Viola’s guess was correct. Seall had received great comfort from Viola and felt like he had encountered a giant. He was truly grateful to have met Viola, so he tried to use this pink diamond for Viola’s benefit. Coincidentally, he heard that Chief Designer Carlo was looking for a pink diamond, thus, Viscount Seall personally visited Parr Viscounty and gave him the pink diamond.
“It’s a gift from Princess Viola.”
It wasn’t Viola who gave it, it was Seall who gave it, but he presented it that way on purpose. Thus, Carlo firmly believed that this pink diamond was a gift from Viola.
“Illua’s Tears. How should I repay this favor…?!”
Viola was once again taken aback.
Illua’s Tears. It was an enormous gem that appeared several times in the novel. Illua’s Tears was known to be an item given by the first emperor of the Eastern Continent’s Corel Empire to a knight he loved and cherished.
‘The knight’s name was Illua. The greatest warrior of her time and the emperor’s lover.’
Once, when the emperor was captured, Illua infiltrated the enemy’s camp alone and rescued the emperor. In the process, Illua lost the pink diamond that had been bestowed upon her by her emperor and she was deeply heartbroken. She then failed to recover from the injuries she sustained on the battlefield and eventually died in the emperor’s arms.
‘The emperor wept for three days and nights… From then on, it was called Illua’s Tears.’
Illua’s Tears was acquired by Vladokt, an enemy general, and presented to the Emperor of the Peto Empire. It was a symbol of killing Illua, the strongest warrior of the time, and was designated as an imperial treasure, being carefully managed for hundreds of years. Afterward, with the fall of the Peto Empire, ‘Illua’s Tears’ fell into the hands of Cabruel, the first Mage Tower owner, then was taken away by the first Duke of Brandia. Afterward, Illua’s Tears passed through the hands of several absolute people, soon disappearing completely.
“Historical records are embedded in Illua’s Tears. I can’t stop admiring the deep heart of the princess who gave me this.”
Illua’s Tears was a very special gem. It absorbed a small amount of the owner’s mana and recorded it into the mineral itself. It was said that a very skilled wizard could view this mineral’s records as well as feel the small amounts of mana infused into the diamond. This was a realm of mystery.
“I will honor the princess’s wishes and rewrite the history of Louis Bartengan. Certainly.”
She never said that but Viola couldn’t refute him. It was obvious that if she tried to say she hadn’t given it to him, it would only look strange.
Then, Kaiser opened his eyes.
“Hey. Who are you?”
The Viscount was an old man with a long beard and a bald head.
“You’re a bad wizard.”
Through illogical and extremely narrow-minded thinking, he concluded that this was a ‘wizard in pursuit’ of Viola. He raised his mace.
“If you bother the good Viola, you will be severely scolded!”
Raising his mace higher, he began to gather momentum.
“Mister, please. Just do some thinking.”
“Why? Why are you angry?”
“Didn’t you hear our conversation?”
“I didn’t hear it.”
His ears and brain were truly amazing. He heard only what he wanted to hear, letting what he didn’t want to hear pass directly through his brain.
“Anyway, we are not enemies. Please stay calm. Don’t keep throwing ‘pancake bombs’ at him.”
Kaiser became sullen.
* * *
Carlo took out a wooden plaque from his pocket.
“This is a wooden plaque made from a birch tree that was struck by lightning. Lord Sirson himself engraved his name on it with his own mana. With this wooden plaque, you can enter the Magic Tower up to ten times. Not only that, but you can meet Magic Tower’s Lord Sirson up to three times.”
Editor’s Note: There have been some inconsistencies in the RAWS regarding “The Magic Tower.” Sometimes it has “Magic Tower” singular, sometimes it has “Magic Towers” plural, and sometimes it has the specific “6 Magic Towers.” Up till now we have been translating it in the plural to account for the occasional use of the numeral 6, but reading on, it appears that while there are multiple towers, they call the whole city “The Magic Tower” singular. Thus, we will be referring to it in this way from now on. Sorry if there was any confusion.
“Wow. You are the one who behaves extravagantly.”
Kaiser perked his ears. No matter how much he thought about it, he didn’t like wizards.
“I have already met Lord Sirson once, and since I have two more opportunities left, I would like to give this to the princess.”
“Thank you.”
Viola did not refuse Carlo’s favor. Although Carlo’s sparkling eyes were somehow very burdensome.
“I will accompany you inside the Magic Tower. Is it okay?”
“Great.”
Kaiser didn’t seem to want to go into the Magic Tower, however, he accompanied her to the Magic Tower’s border.
“I should check the safety with my own eyes.”
If the Magic Tower persecuted Viola again, Kaiser wouldn’t let it go. He promised this to himself as he was sure they would try to destroy everything. However, including magic weapons, there was no attack from the Magic Tower. It was thanks to ‘Sirson’s wooden plaque.’ Although the Magic Tower had the name ‘Tower,’ it was one huge territory. Like any other castle complex, there was a gate, and as Viola approached, the gate opened of its own accord. When the gate opened, Kaiser seemed relieved.
“If bad guys bother you, call me.”
“Okay. Thank you.”
Kaiser was a little surprised. He had been depressed because Viola kept getting angry whenever he did something. But now she suddenly felt grateful. It wasn’t a big deal, but he was touched for no reason.
“Aren’t you angry?”
“Why should I be angry?”
“You’re always angry, right?”
“I got angry because Mister’s methods were wrong.”
“I don’t know the right way?”
He had lived like that his whole life and he would continue to live like that in the future. The Kaiser of this world, created by the author, was such a person.
“Still, I’m grateful.”
Kaiser opened his eyes wide. His earlobes were as thick and large as his huge body and now they were stained red.
“I hope your beautiful heart will never change.”
Her wish was sincere. She hoped that his love for animals and children would not change.
“And come visit Winter Castle later.”
“Really?”
Hearing that, Kaiser felt good because it seemed that he had really become friends with Viola.
“Am I really going to have fun?”
“Uh-huh. There’s a good friend there whom you can talk to.”
“Really?”
“There is. He’s a ‘cat mom.’”
Kaiser waved his hand from a distance. It was as if a beautiful tree was waving its branch. He waved until the gate was completely closed and Viola could no longer be seen. Once Viola entered the Magic Tower, Kaiser took out a contract from his pocket and tore it up.
“What kind of crazy person would want to kill a kid like that?”
From the beginning, Kaiser had no intention of honoring this contract. Children were beings that deserved protection and should never be killed. However, it was obvious that if he didn’t accept this order, someone else would take the contract, so he accepted it on purpose.
“Hey! You, watching from afar.”
Kaiser looked straight in Carlton’s direction. Even though he couldn’t figure out Carlton’s identity, he roughly figured out his location.
“Are you from Bellato? Go and tell him the truth clearly. If you try to kill Viola one more time, I will destroy Winter Castle.”
He continued to mutter.
“A mercenary king never betrays his friends, no matter what. Do you understand?”
As he was talking, he began to feel angrier. Killing that child. It had been a while since he received such a terrible request.
“How can you kill such a small and precious child?”
* * *
Carlton, like a competent butler, guessed everything. In conclusion, it was not a coincidence that Kaiser was here. He was commissioned by someone from Bellato.
‘I, the butler, have figured it out. The only people who can move the mercenary king are the duke and his two wives. As it’s probably not the Duke and one wife has long since disappeared, the only person left is Duchess Isabella. She would know the Mercenary King’s beliefs… so she must have been confident that he wouldn’t kill Viola.’
It seemed what Isabella wanted was not for the Mercenary King to kill Viola, but for the Mercenary King to fight the magic tower in order to protect Viola.
‘If it weren’t for Chief Designer Carlo, Viola would have been in an uncomfortable situation in many ways.’
If things had continued like they had been, both the Magic Tower and Viola would have lost. And it was clear that if her uncomfortable relationship with the Magic Tower could not be improved, her reputation as a White Bellato would also suffer.
Carlton wrote a letter to the duke.
[Believe it or not, Viola succeeded in appeasing the Mercenary King. Externally, the two have become friends and the Mercenary King promised to visit Winter Castle. It is extremely rare for a person like the Mercenary King who values faith to make a promise. Based on this, Princess Viola’s mercenary skills can only be described as truly amazing.]
Meanwhile, the duke who received the letter felt bad for some reason. He felt bad even though the letter contained nothing but high praise. His eyes landed on the last line of the letter.
[The Mercenary King disappeared after muttering to himself incomprehensibly. The last thing he said was, ‘How can you kill such a small and precious child?’ What he meant needs to be deciphered.]
* * *
Viola entered the Magic Tower and saw a huge square at the front of a well-organized & neatly planned city.
“Whoa…”
Viola let out an exclamation without realizing it. The artificial sun floating in the sky was warm, and a pleasant breeze blew. This was a space where both temperature and humidity were perfectly managed. The wizards of the Magic Tower could make a living without having to work. They only had to study magic, all other matters were excluded. For wizards, this place was heaven on earth.
‘That’s the actual Magic Tower.’
The reason why the huge city was called the ‘Magic Tower’ was because of the tall spire built in the very center of the city. People just referred to the city with that spire as ‘Magic Tower,’ and that was Viola’s destination.
“If you follow this path, there will be short warp gates. If you warp, following the guides’ instructions, you will arrive at the Magic Tower.”
Hives broke out on Chief Designer Carlo’s body. This was a symptom of an actual disease called ‘Magic Tower Hives’ where your skin becomes irritated when you enter the Magic Tower. At first it’s just an itchiness, but if you leave it for too long, the skin will rot.
“Chief designer Carlo, please go back. I owe you a lot.”
“Thank you. I’m just returning the favor. I’m sorry for not being able to accompany you on your journey until the end, Princess.”
Carlo was still sincere.
Illua’s tears.
“I feel like the princess’s feet… Eh-hem!”
He would like to kneel at her feet and before he knew it, his inner thoughts came out.
“Yes?”
“Let me kiss your feet.”
He bowed down with a sense of respect and gratitude. Viola wanted to kick Carlo, but she couldn’t.
‘Ah, I hate this!’
Even though it was a different world culture, it was still difficult to accept. Anyway, after expressing his respect and gratitude to Viola, Carlo left the Magic Tower. As always, there was a smile on Zenon’s lips.
‘She’s definitely won the hearts of the Mercenary King and Chief Designer Carlo.’
“Let’s go,” said Viola.
Now she had to find Elsina.
“Where shall I lead you?”
Hmm? Guide her? Viola couldn’t believe her ears for a moment.
“You mean you know the way?”
“Yes, I know this Magic Tower relatively accurately compared to other magic towers.”
That meant he also knew the paths of other magic towers. It was strange. In the novel, Zenon didn’t know the layout of the Magic Tower.
‘Have the settings changed?’
