I Played the Role of the Adopted Daughter Too Well

CHAPTER 127

Kaiser asked back as if he couldn’t understand.

“What isn’t like me?”

“Even if you get hit, you won’t die.”

Kaise was a character with a body so strong that the world’s second-strongest person would be sad because he was so far behind first place. Even if Kaiser got hit to the point of death, it wouldn’t hurt, and he could repel magic attacks with just his physique. It was impossible to pierce the mana field flowing on top of his skin. Forget about piercing his skin with the sword of a low-level warrior, even for a high-level warrior, it was difficult to injure Kaiser.

“Normally, if someone gets hit, they die. You know that, right?”

“I know. Do you think I’m stupid?”

“So it’s natural to be afraid. Not everyone is like you.”

Crackle! Crackle!

Kaiser looked at the burning campfire, becoming lost in thought. When he was very young, his mother told him.

“Hey. Not everyone in the world is like you. Don’t look at the world through your own eyes, but look at the world through the eyes of ordinary people.”

“Why, Mother?”

“When viewed from the perspective of the strong, the weak are frustrating. The world becomes warmer when you look at it from the perspective of the weak.”

“I understand, Mother.”

That memory suddenly came to mind. It was a memory he had long forgotten as he got older.

“Look at the world through the eyes of the weak.”

Kaiser’s body flinched.

“Were you friends with my mom?”

“…”

Viola was truly dumbfounded. She was a 13-year-old! Was she his mom’s friend? In some ways, Kaise seemed to have no bias.

“What are you talking about?”

“What you said. You sound just like my mom.”

“Anyway. I am an underdog compared to the Magic Towers and so I tried to enter the Magic Towers in my own way.”

“Why do you want to go in?”

“There is someone I must find because I have something to take responsibility for.  But then an old man showed up! By using your selfishness to save me, you ruined everything.”

Kaiser rubbed his nose as if embarrassed.

“Aren’t you speaking a little harshly?”

“I am. You swung your mace at the Magic Towers’ wall without even looking into the context of the situation. Compensation for damages will be my family’s responsibility.”

“But I did it so why is it your family’s responsibility?”

“Are you going to compensate me?”

“I have no money. Thinking about money gives me a stomachache.”

“So the bill will be sent to Bellato.”

For the Magic Towers, that would be a much faster and easier route.

Kaiser widened his eyes.

“Bellato?”

She had introduced herself as a Bellato earlier but Kaiser always seemed to hear only what he wanted to hear.

“Are you a Bellato?”

“Uh-huh. The sixth Princess.”

Kaiser scratched his head.

“But where is the Bellato family?”

“It’s at the northern end of the continent.”

“I’ve heard of it, so it’s probably not a small or medium-sized family?”

“Do you know the three ducal families of the Monarch Empire?”

“There are only three duchies?”

The more Viola continued the conversation, the deeper she seemed to sink into a mire. Since she had been reborn, she’d never had such a difficult time having a ‘common sense’ conversation. This was a true muscle guy who only cared about protein.

Viola taught Kaiser at his level.

“Aren’t you crazy about chicken breast?”

“It’s the most perfect food in the world! 100g contains over 20g of protein but only 130 kcal.”

For reference, it was only recently that such component analysis became possible, all thanks to Elsina’s ingredient analysis magic. She was a failed disciple of the Magic Towers’ Lord Sirson, called an ‘unscrupulous bastard’ and the person Viola was currently going to meet.

“And you hate pancakes.”

“That’s the devil’s food.”

“I really like pancakes.”

“Oh. You devilish little girl.”

Kaiser narrowed his eyes and made a gloomy expression. His attitude was that he would never understand a 13-year-old who loved pancakes. In some ways, he showed an open mind without prejudice, but in other ways, he was extremely narrow-minded.

“How about I give you my favorite pancakes as a gift?”

“I’d give you a Dutch rub! That’s not a gift.”

Editor’s Note: A Dutch rub is hitting someone’s head lightly with a fist.

“That’s what my uncle gave me. Your actions told me you were a pancake with whipped cream on top.”

Kaiser’s face turned a muddy color. Viola felt that he could finally understand and sympathize with her in his heart.

“I’m sorry. What can I do?”

* * *

Butler Carlton stuck out his tongue. He was hiding in a very distant place, spying on Viola using his unique ability, ‘clairvoyance.’

‘Is Mercenary King Kaiser such an obedient team member?’

How far did Viola’s magic extend? Where did this child’s mercenary skills end?

‘His sudden visit to the Magic Towers was planned.’

Princess Viola had a plan. There was no doubt to Carlton that this situation was created by Viola only after thoroughly understanding the movements of Mercenary King Kaiser and completely analyzing his mentality and personality.

‘Yes. Mercenary King Kaiser is someone who must be recruited.’

When Kaiser became an enemy, he was one of the most troublesome human beings. On the contrary, when he became an ally, he was one of the most reliable people. He was difficult to handle, but once you could handle him, he was a person who would become your best force.

‘You are solidifying your position outside of Winter Castle.’

Clearly, Viola was amazing and had great ambitions. Carlton had no choice but to interpret it that way.

‘If it’s Mercenary King Kaiser… It would be worth it to send me here in case of an emergency.’

Now everything made sense.

* * *

The night deepened and Viola had to think. How could she get into the Magic Towers? How could she resolve the misunderstanding? Plus, Elsina was a difficult person to meet. This was because she did not allow herself to meet outsiders while at the Magic Towers.

“If I cut off your head while you sleep and take it with me, I think they’ll let me in.”

Kaiser suddenly stood up.

“What kind of noble lady are you to say such a horrible thing? Alright, then I’ll go and clear up the misunderstanding myself!”

“How?”

“I just have to tell the truth.”

“You could be roasted alive before you tell the truth.”

“If I’m bringing chicken breast, will it cook all at once?”

Anyway, that was Kaiser’s logic.

“Wouldn’t it be okay to tell them that you and I weren’t friends until now, but now we are?”

What to do with his simple flower garden mentality? Viola was speechless again.

“Why are we friends?”

“You gave me chicken breast.”

She didn’t know why, but Zenon had frozen chicken breast. Viola had given Kaiser the chicken and he ate 1 kg of it in one sitting.

Editor’s Note: The RAWS had 1 gram of chicken breast but I’m fairly sure that must be a typo as a typical chicken breast weighs anywhere from 170-230 grams… XD

As the night deepened, Kaiser fell asleep, snoring.

“I’m the best!” he said, talking in his sleep.

Zenon said with a grin, “Princess, I have a good idea. Do you mind if I tell you about it?”

Zenon’s face looked pale in the blue moonlight, and his mysterious smile looked a little more cruel today. Viola thought of one possibility of why Mercenary King Kaiser suddenly fell asleep.

“No way. Did you use poison?”

Somehow, she just knew, but she didn’t want to know.

“Yes, I used a poison mixed from a red frog’s neurotoxin and oil from a Hyangni Anu whale in a certain ratio. Then it underwent an extreme pressure process in a magic press.”

The poison was called ‘Batalu’ after the person who first created this poison, Batalu.

“Batalu?”

It was a poison that Viola knew very well. One drop was enough to defeat an ogre. However, it had a very strong unique taste, so it was not a poison useful for surprise attacks.

“As expected, you know it.”

“It’s a very strong poison.”

There was no way Kaiser, who ate chicken breast every day, wouldn’t notice. In other words, Kaiser knew that it contained poison but he ate it anyway.

“Well. If I had given it to you, you wouldn’t have eaten it. But I think he ate it because the princess gave it to him.”

She thought about the situation from before. That was correct. Zenon removed the chicken breast from his subspace pocket but Viola gave it to Kaiser.

‘Food given by children is harmless… Even if it was extremely poisonous. That would be his logic.’

Viola stuck her tongue out at the consistent character.

“Shall I cut his throat?”

“It’s okay. He’d wake up before you cut it.”

Even now he might be listening to them in his sleep. Even though he was listening to everything, there was a high chance that he wasn’t paying attention. Mercenary King Kaiser was that kind of character.

“If it’s the Rathbone Bingum style, I think I can do it without pain.”

‘Zenon. Please don’t say such harsh words with a smile on your face. I’m really scared.’

Viola looked at the fire, hiding her trembling legs.

“He showed trust in you.”

“Trust?”

“Even though he knew about the Batalu, he just ate it. If that’s not trust, what is?”

“Hmm. That’s right, so I can’t cut off his head.”

First of all, she hated cutting off heads. There was no way that would be possible for a normal person.

“Not only can I not betray his trust, but I like this guy.”

At that moment, the corners of Kaiser’s mouth turned up. Then he started talking in his sleep. It could have been a coincidence, but Viola saw it clearly.

“Are you acknowledging me as a friend?”

“You told me first that you were a friend. I don’t often have people like that.”

Zenon thought, ‘I’m here.’ He was about to say, ‘I can be a good friend to you,’ but he held back. Because what Viola wanted was not Zenon, her friend, but Zenon, her butler.

Meanwhile, Viola got goosebumps.

‘No, Mr. Mercenary King! Why do you keep smiling? If you want to sleep, sleep, if you want to smile, smile. Do one or the other because both at the same time is so bizarre.’

The words rose up in Viola’s throat but she held them back.

“I will find another way to enter the Magic Towers.”

“It looks like you’ve already thought of a way?”

“Uh-huh.”

There was a method that she tried to work around.

“It’s not a method I really like.”

It was a bit of a shame to use it up already. Since Carlo, the chief designer of the Louis Bartengan family, and Sirson, a lord of the Six Magic Towers, were close friends, she decided to get Carlo’s help. She thought that if it was Carlo’s letter, she would at least be allowed entry into the Magic Towers.

‘I’ll do that…’

But things again didn’t go as planned because that very night, Chief Designer Carlo appeared.

“I came after hearing that you were heading to the Six Magic Towers. I heard something unpleasant happened during the day today, right?”

She hadn’t even sent a letter but he came to her on his own. Viola didn’t know why.

“I’m glad this old man can be of some help.”

Carlo seemed genuinely happy. It was as if he would jump into the fires of hell for Viola.

“Oh. And I am so, so grateful.”

He suddenly bowed low, and Viola still couldn’t understand anything. Viola grasped the hem of her skirt and also bowed low.

After a while, Carlo took something out of his pocket and Viola could understand why Carlo was so servile.

‘OMG. Is this really happening…?’
