I Played the Role of the Adopted Daughter Too Well

CHAPTER 092

“It’s really too much! I’m angry.”

For a brief moment, a chill went down her spine. She thought a ghost must have come into the room as no one was there. It would be best if it was a ghost as it would be even scarier if it was something like a living creature. Of course, this was Winter Castle, and if something like Sparrow sneaks in, he will be torn in two by her father, Heron. Anyway, when she heard a voice coming from a place where no one should be, every sort of thought came to mind.

‘However…’

It was a voice she had heard many times before. The place where the sound came from was under the bed. Viola lowered her head over the edge and looked under the bed. There was a small boy crawling under the bed and the little boy’s name was Pom-Pom. He was a spirit who had just been born and made a contract with Viola.

‘Huh?’

It was unusual for him to be under the bed, but his expression was even more unusual.

“Are you crying?”

“Whoa, who’s crying?!”

Clear tears fell from the water spirit’s large eyes. Pom-Pom was so upset and felt things were so unfair that he just blurted out something.

“I don’t cry. Because I’m not bad. Bad things are Viola, I’m great.”

“…”

Viola finally understood why Pom-Pom was like this. When Viola signed a contract with Pom-Pom, she said, ‘Would you like to water the pretty flowers together?’

However, she was so busy with work that she couldn’t summon Pom-Pom. Pom-Pom hadn’t been able to look at the Duke’s flower fields and hadn’t been able to water them.

“Yes. I was bad.”

“You definitely promised me. Why didn’t you keep your promise?”

“I will keep my promise.”

Looking at the expression on his face with tears streaming down, it seemed like he had truly been wronged.

“Lie. You made that promise last time.”

“I’ll really keep it this time.”

When she thought about it, she agreed it was a little too much. It was like tempting a young spirit with candy… and yet even though they signed a contract, not even their simplest wishes were granted.

“Lie. I waited 10 years. You haven’t kept your promise for 10 years and now you’re going to keep it? I lost trust in Viola.”

“10 years?”

Now that she thought about it, it seemed like there was a setting where the flow of time was different between the spirit world and this place. Of course, since the lifespan of a spirit is almost infinite, 10 years did not mean much to them, but in any case, 10 years was not a short time.

“Isn’t 10 years just a moment for the great water spirit?”

“But you promised to take me to the flower garden. You said you would let me water the flowers. You told me so.”

Viola got off the bed. She squatted down and made eye contact with Pom-Pom, who was crumpled under the bed. Again, tears welled up in Pom-Pom’s clear eyes.

“Let’s go now. To give water. I’m sorry for not keeping my promise.”

“I’m not going! Viola is a liar.”

“The flowers in the Marguerite flower garden must have bloomed a lot by now.”

Editor’s Note: just a quick reminder, Marguerite flowers are the various flowers in the daisy family.

Pom-Pom first turned his head then spun around, hitting his head on the bottom of the bed. Although he didn’t show any sign of being hurt, tears flowed again.

“Pom-Pom, do you know what the Marguerite flower means in the language of flowers?”

“The language of flowers?”

“True love, prophecy, fortune telling for love, revealing secrets.”

A flower that Kang Han-joon gave Han Arin as a talisman in the past and Tundra gave to Viola as a gift. She didn’t remember the exact time but a Marguerite flower garden had been created at the Duke’s residence. It was a special space created through magic and it was said to be wider than most plains. Viola hasn’t been there yet.

“True love? Prophecy? Fortune telling for love? Revealing secrets?”

Pom-Pom began to take an interest. His bright eyes could not hide his love and hope for flowers.

“Yup. That flower.”

“That flower?”

Viola pointed her finger to one side. The Marguerite flower that Tundra had previously given as a gift had been magically treated and stored in a vase.

“I can not see.”

“You have to get out from under the bed to see it.”

“I’m not coming out…”

“Let’s uncover the secret hidden in the Marguerite flower together. If you water it, it will become much prettier.”

Pom-Pom’s body twitched. His body seemed to be itching.

“Are you going to keep your promise next time?”

“I’m keeping the promise now.”

“It took 10 years.”

“I apologize. I’m sorry for making you wait 10 years. Great Pom-Pom has a big heart, so won’t you forgive me?”

Pom-Pom eventually looked at Viola. Pretending like he couldn’t win, he crawled out from under the bed.

“I forgive because I am great.”

Then he rolled his eyes and looked at the vase. His eyes widened.

“Is that Marguerite?”

“Yup. It’s like my talisman.”

“Pretty.”

Pom-Pom couldn’t hide his excitement.

“Water. Let’s go get it!”

* * *

Viola was exceptionally tired. She had made quite a forced march from Parr Viscounty to home. Moreover, she poured out an enormous amount of strength by slapping Hera’s cheek. She was so exhausted that she felt like she was going to collapse at any moment. However, seeing Pom-Pom having fun and trying to hide his excitement made her feel like her fatigue was melting away.

‘So cute.’

Was it that exciting to water flowers?

‘When I see things like this, I feel sorry for Pom-Pom in the original.’

It’s a spirit that had a lot of emotions and was clear about what he wanted. Heidi, the evil woman in the original, made Pom-Pom her blood spirit and brought misfortune to him. She was the worst of evils who only exploited him until the end.

“Are we going there? I can feel the power of artificially processed mana.”

Pom-Pom frowned slightly. It was said that spirits instinctively felt an aversion to magic or magical engineering. Spirits used the power of nature in its true form while magic was the power that humans artificially created by combining various powers that exist in nature.

“Yup. After passing through this gate, a flower field will unfold.”

“Why did they do this troublesome thing? They could have just made the flower garden in a field.”

“The land is too barren in winter.”

“Barren? Why?”

“It’s adjacent to where the snow blows. They say it’s a place with a life-sucking energy.”

“I don’t really feel anything like that?”

“Because the entire place is guarded by Bellato along with a huge magic circle.”

Pom-Pom nodded his head as if he understood.

“Bellato guys. They’re not as great as me… but they’re pretty great.”

Viola gasped and then burst out laughing. It felt like playing with a little nephew. She passed through the ‘secret door’ and entered the Marguerite flower garden.

‘Wow.’

Viola was secretly impressed. She saw endless marguerite flowers spreading out.

‘It’s huge.’

A field full of marguerite flowers. A white and yellow world unfolded on a green field.

Pom-Pom muttered as if possessed, “Lush dark green, neat white.”

He took a deep breath.

Sniff!

“Soft scent.”

Pom-Pom was filled with joy, like a child who had finally found what he had been longing for.

He hummed, “Pretty yellow color.”

Viola just looked at her contract spirit with warm eyes.

“I’m going to give them water.”

“Okay. The flowers will like it.”

“I’ll give them clean, delicious, cool water.”

Pom-Pom’s body turned into foam and disappeared. The bubbles became one huge water droplet and floated into the sky before turning into very small water droplets which made rain here and there as they flew around. While Pom-Pom made his strange humming song, he actually made it rain.

“Grow up quickly. It’s a gift from the great Pom-Pom.”

He seemed to have forgotten his past dislike of the name Pom-Pom. Marguerite’s flower garden was so large that he couldn’t water it all at once.

“My body is great but the Marguerites like a lot of water.”

Pom-Pom returned to his human form again, panting and wiping the sweat from his forehead. She could see in his eyes that he was trying to carefully regulate his breathing in order to pretend that he wasn’t tired, which made him both cute and funny.

“You don’t have to act so strong.”

“I am strong.”

“Are you short of breath?”

“I’m not tired.”

For what he just did, he was surely panting a lot, but Viola just ignored it.

Suddenly, a voice was heard.

“Master?”

* * *

Tundra often visited the Marguerite flower garden. For some reason, he felt at ease when he came here. When he missed Viola, he would come into the Marguerite flower garden and meditate. He didn’t know why, but he felt like he could smell Viola’s scent when he was surrounded by the marguerite flowers.

‘I heard she went to see the Duke.’

However, Viola was too busy to meet Tundra.

‘She must be very busy.’

After Viola returned, Tundra’s loneliness grew even more. Tundra did not deny that he was lonely.

‘It’s a completely natural feeling for a pet dog.’

If it’s a pet dog, it’s natural for it to want to see its owner.  He wanted to meet his owner and look into his owner’s eyes. He was waiting for his owner’s touch. A dog behavior expert he recently spoke with several times also said the same thing.

‘Let’s just meditate.’

Acknowledging that he was lonely, he decided to give himself up to meditation. While meditating, he would often lose track of time and stay up all night. He was concentrating on meditation when he heard a humming sound from somewhere.

“Lush dark green. Neat white. Soft scent. Pretty yellow color.”

Because he was meditating, he wasn’t sure he heard what was being said clearly, but it definitely broke his concentration.

‘Who is it at this hour?’

Tundra suddenly came to his senses.

‘Master’s scent!’

It smelled like Viola. His nose perked up like a puppy. He was certain.

‘It’s the master’s scent.’

It was the smell of Viola’s mana. His heart started beating like crazy. He didn’t have a tail, but it seemed to be wagging wildly. Another strange thought occurred to him.

‘What is a propeller?’

It was the same as last time. It felt like his hips were swinging like a propeller. He still didn’t know what a propeller was, but when he heard Viola’s voice, he woke up completely from his meditation.

“Okay. The flowers will like it.”

The voice was much warmer than usual. He heard Viola’s voice again.

“You don’t have to act so strong. Are you short of breath?”

Tundra stood up without realizing it.

“Master?”

He saw Viola’s face. Viola looked happy.

‘Ah…’

Seeing that scene somehow warmed his heart.

‘I’m happy, too.’

He felt a rich sense of satisfaction welling up from deep within his heart.

“Tundra? What are you doing here?”

“I was meditating. When I come into the Marguerite flower garden, I can focus better on meditation.”

Tundra couldn’t take his eyes off Viola. At this moment, Tundra’s mind was filled with Viola. He felt like Viola was everything in the world.

Tundra said, “Thank you for coming back.”

There were tears of joy in his eyes.
