I Played the Role of the Adopted Daughter Too Well

CHAPTER 071

“You must die here.”

Zenon, who appeared with the sound of his footsteps, held a dagger in his right hand.

Jeremy drew his sword.

“This is a mountain beyond a mountain. I think the butler is in an illusion”

“I know.”

Viola swallowed. She knew that Zenon was strong, but she didn’t know that he would radiate such an aura. It felt like Zenon was filling the entire space.

‘This seems to have become a space for sharp blades.’

Front and back, left and right. She couldn’t move anywhere. It felt as if she moved in any direction he would cut her flesh with a sharp knife.

“My butler is quite competent.”

“I know even if you don’t tell me.”

Jeremy sprang forward like a coiled spring, swinging his sword. There was no mercy in that attack. It seemed that he was swinging his sword with the mindset of really killing Zenon.

“You haven’t grown up yet.”

Swoop.

Zenon threw Jeremy’s sword aside with a nonchalant expression. He only pushed the sword using minimal force. It was a smooth and calm movement, like water, but Jeremy almost lost his balance and fell.

‘A few moves better than me.’

Although it was only their first match, Jeremy realized the vast skill difference between Zenon and himself. Then Viola’s voice was heard.

“Why did such a competent butler succumb to an illusion?”

A soldier who was considered ‘strong enough’ had a strong will and was not greatly influenced by external forces. Unless it was a special case such as mental illness or alcoholism.

Viola continued.

“There’s no other way to explain it other than that he was caught on purpose.”

Viola was burning up with anxiety, but she didn’t show it. The Viola that Jeremy saw was very relaxed, even in this situation.

“Did you get caught on purpose to test me?”

Zenon was not looking at Viola. He was looking at something beyond her, seeming to see an illusion. Zenon was smiling with an expression completely different from his usual warm smile.

“I said I would kill you.”

“It seems that he’s not hearing outside words at all.”

Viola bit her lip.

“A dog that bites its master must be dealt with using a rod.”

Of course, Viola didn’t think so. She was Viola but she loved puppies. How could she hit a puppy? But this was a fantasy world and here she was a Bellato. It was important for her to have the proper speech and attitude.

“Pom-Pom.”

Viola’s body was dyed blue. Her body became a spirit gate able to summon her spirit from the spirit realm.

Splash!

There was a spray of water and as the droplets cleared away her blue-haired boy, Pom-Pom, appeared.

“What is that monster?”

“Water is cheap.”

“Huh?”

“Sober him up.”

Lowering his stance, Zenon lunged at Viola. In an instant, his body disappeared. Viola’s eyes caught the movement but she didn’t react.

‘He’s too fast.’

She was unable to respond to Zenon’s movements. However, even if Viola couldn’t respond, her guardian spirit did. Pom-Pom’s arm turned into water and wrapped around Zenon’s hand like a glove. Zenon was startled and tried to pull the dagger back but his body wouldn’t move.

“You seem to be performing tricks.”

Zenon activated his mana to try and disintegrate the water surrounding his hand. Mana swirled like a blender until the water surrounding his hand shattered, scattering about. In the meantime, Jeremy operated the Storm Sword.

“Calm down!”

Before she knew it, Jeremy had also summoned Storm. After he called the spirit and was strengthened by Storm, Jeremy felt his whole body lighten.

‘It’s much lighter.’

He was light and fast.

‘I don’t think I should rely too much on the spirit’s help.’

It felt like it wasn’t his own strength. The sword was lighter and the movements were much swifter than usual. The Storm Sword aimed for a swordsmanship that boasted a heavy power. Instead of light and fast, it was heavy and dull, belonging to a slow swordsmanship. In addition, it consumed a lot of stamina.

“Haap!”

However, the Wind Spirit offset all of the Storm Sword’s shortcomings.

Fu-wook!

Jeremy’s sword pierced Zenon’s shoulder. Because Zenon reacted quickly, he was able to minimize his injuries. However, no injury was really a small injury.

“It’s fun. I will remember you. You guys are pretty good drones.”

Zenon’s eyes were stained red. Viola felt weak.

‘That…?’

Viola was familiar with it.

‘Killing rage?’

Viola was born with an innate ability to kill. However, it seemed that Zenon was also born with a killing nature.

‘Was anything like this described in the novel?’

His power became more intense as Zenon’s mood completely changed.

“I will treat you as a true soldier.”

* * *

There were light wounds all over Viola’s body. Zenon’s dagger was sharp and sophisticated. Viola was unable to read his movements properly.

‘I can’t do anything.’

Viola just stood in place and watched. This was her best option since she didn’t know which way to move or even how to move.

‘This… is Zenon’s true skill.’

She realized once again that this world was a fantasy world. She couldn’t see him move. His movements weren’t like a human’s, he was like a ghost.

‘If it wasn’t for Jeremy and Pom-Pom… I would already be dead.’

Jeremy was clearly tired and had suffered a serious injury to his abdomen. Although he was assisted by his spirit, he was still not a match for Zenon.

“Omg… Omg…!”

Jeremy gripped his sword in reverse and forced himself to remain standing. He was the heir to the Storm Sword. Although he would lose, ultimately falling here, he would never give up.

‘I will not give up.’

The words ‘give up’ did not suit the successor of the Storm Sword. He felt like he was going to collapse and the world looked yellow. Nevertheless, it was Viola’s relaxed attitude that kept him hopeful.

‘Viola is a White Bellato.’

Viola was always ‘Bellato’, at every moment. She didn’t lose her Bellato aura even now and seemed to be playing the role of the White Bellato.

‘She hasn’t backed down even once.’

The Viola Jeremy saw was strong. Although she suffered minor injuries, she still stood calmly. It seemed that as the White Bellato, Viola had a different way. That’s how she could stand so relaxed and loftily contemplate the situation.

‘Viola is showing me her ability as the White Bellato, and I need to show her my ability as the Storm Sword Heir. Wouldn’t that make us well-matched?’

With Viola’s presence, Jeremy was able to continue, not giving up. He saw hope and light and his wind spirit was moved by that vision.

[Awesome.]

Storm was also a spirit that inherited the surname of ‘Kell’. However, Storm didn’t like Jeremy. His affinity with spirits was low and so the spirit had decided that there would be a clear limit to the sharing of her own power.

[He is a man with an indomitable will.]

However, with his level of mental strength, Storm thought that he could overcome the penalty of being inferior to the spirits. She had no idea that the human spirit could be so strong and powerful.

[Sorry. I will open the door to my heart a little more.]

In fact, Storm had kind of wished that Jeremy would die here, then she could sign with a new contractor. But now she had changed her mind. She thought it would be nice to be with a person with such a mindset and strong will.

‘Whoa!’

The airflow around Jeremy’s body grew stronger. Meanwhile, Viola broke out in a cold sweat, beads forming along her back.

‘What do I do?’

She needed to get Zenon out of the illusion but she couldn’t figure out a way. What was needed now was not the intellect of the White Bellato, but the brute force of the Black Bellato.

‘That’s impossible.’

However, fighting by force was impossible. Viola’s head was conflicted.

‘This is too much for a test.’

In the novel, Zenon never revealed his murderous nature. It was Zenon’s secret and there was absolutely no reason to reveal that secret now, at the beginning of the novel.

‘So, he didn’t get caught on purpose…’

She half thought that Zenon was deliberately caught in an illusion, but maybe that wasn’t actually the case.

‘Maybe a very, very powerful spirit invaded Zenon’s consciousness?’

If you thought about it that way, then the situation made sense. Goosebumps formed on her forearms.

‘Okay.’

This space was a special space that allowed even Jeremy, who has a low spirit affinity, to sign a contract with the spirit queen. And in such a space where Viola’s affinity for spirits was ridiculously high, it was possible that not only Storm passed through the spirit gate.

‘For example…’

A thought passed through her mind.

‘That crazy Blood Spirit King…’

The blood-crazed spirit king. There was one spirit king whose attributes were unknown and whose contractor was unknown. He was a cruel spirit king who was only interested in killing humans and driving them crazy. In other words, this ‘Blood’ was a 1st generation blood spirit king, while the spirit contracted with Heidi (Pom-Pom) was a 2nd generation blood spirit king.

‘Nonsense!’

Viola thought it was an absurd assumption but kept feeling that it made sense.

‘Zenon must have opened the door to his heart.’

He would have been distracted. What if a powerful spirit king like ‘Blood’ appeared in that situation and consumed Zenon’s consciousness?

‘Otherwise, there’s no way he could have dominated Zenon to this extent.’

Only then did things begin to objectively make sense. Zenon would never give-up his consciousness to a weak spirit so he must be under the influence of a very powerful spirit.

‘Okay. It’s a spirit’s power.’

This ‘killing force’ felt different to Viola than Zenon’s ‘killing force’. Now it was clear.

‘A spirit born with a killing-nature.’

‘Blood’ seemed to be the right answer. It was expressed like that in the novel as well. Blood was a spirit born under a killing star so he was ostracized by the other spirits and grew up alone, always lonely.

‘I read that Blood’s purpose was to eat human spirits and destroy the spirit world.’

That kind of thing wasn’t good. If this was the real Blood that appeared, it was a powerful opponent that Jeremy himself could not face.

‘The way… I can’t see it.’

Viola felt helpless for the first time. No matter how difficult the situation or difficulties were, there had always been a way to break through. But not now. In other words, this was a natural disaster.

“This is a natural disaster, so to speak.”

A familiar voice was heard.

“Duke Bellato doesn’t accept defeat but he never told you to win against a natural disaster.”

Someone walked inside. Zenon’s aura, which had filled the space, began to fade. Viola saw the silhouette of a huge sword. There was only one woman in the world who could hold such a huge sword casually.

‘Sister Medea?’

The first princess of Bellato, Medea, appeared.

“My little sister, you’re hurt.”

Medea’s aura completely pushed out Zenon’s aura. Medea walked closer to Viola and examined her face. She frowned slightly as the cuts on Viola’s skin seemed to bother her.

“Ask for help,” she said with a warm expression.

She glanced behind her with emotionless eyes.

“I will prevent this natural disaster.”
