I Picked Up My Father Who Left Home 46
Lia silently observed Casisan, who had suddenly become quiet.
Seeing no particular reaction despite the continued apparent annoyance toward Shion, Lia felt that worrying about it might not be necessary anymore.
‘Really… living with Cassian is difficult.’
Even raising an annoying seven-year-old boy who causes trouble all the time might not be more challenging.
But what could she do? It was her job.
And in its own way, it hadn’t been handled badly.
So, her role here was finished.
“Well then, I’ll leave the space for you. Once you finish, talk to me for a moment, Cassian.”
Cassian, who had been startled by Lia’s offer to vacate the seat, nodded in understanding at her subsequent words.
It was frustrating that the annoying guy had come right now, disturbing the time with his angel baby, but he would wait since she promised.
Of course, Lia’s conversation with Cassian wasn’t going to be a pleasant one, but that wasn’t important to Cassian.
What mattered was the time spent with Lia itself.
After Lia left, there was a moment of silence between Cassian and Shion.
From Shion’s perspective, the whole situation had been bewildering and surprising.
Looking at Cassian, who seemed to have stiffened as if his mood was sour, Shion worried that something might happen.
However, worry proved unnecessary, as nothing occurred.
Lia simply responded calmly, instantly calming Cassian.
Was Cassian originally like this?
It was enough to raise such a question.
Until now, there had not been a single instance where he simply let someone who bothered him be.
There was no one who could calm him back then.
However, Lia was different.
So once again, he felt like she was even more amazing.
In addition…. he became curious.
What exactly was Lia to Cassian that he would go to such lengths for her?
Even the silence locked in each other’s convictions was broken for a moment. It was Shion who spoke first.
“So, what is the reason for calling me to come here?”
Since Cassian decided to stay at the duke house, most of his work has been replaced by letters. Even when asked if he would like to return to the grand duke’s house and work for a while, he sharply refused.
When Shion said he would come and visit him, but Cassian refused even that.
Then, just a few days ago, he received a letter from Cassian, saying he had something to discuss and to come to the duke house.
Given their history so far, he couldn’t help but feel nervous because what he was going to say didn’t seem like something light.
There seemed to be a secret Cassian was keeping from him.
Of course, as his aide, Shion wasn’t trying to pry into all of his secrets.
However, this situation was unusual. It was inexplicable.
As such, Shion couldn’t simply ignore it.
“I need to confirm a few things.”
While he could inquire through a letter, there were delicate aspects to consider. Especially because Cassian had more than one doubt.
A letter alone wouldn’t suffice to address those doubts.
“Have you noticed anything suspicious or unusual?”
Shion knew that Cassian was personally investigating something, so he asked with a serious expression.
Cassian furrowed his brow slightly at Shion’s attitude.
Just for a moment.
“Did I’ve getting married??”
Cassian’s tone as he asked was remarkably casual and indifferent.
As if he was just engaging in casual conversation.
However, Shion, upon hearing the question, couldn’t help but feel extremely flustered.
While he wondered if Cassian genuinely didn’t know and was asking, there was also a lingering sense of unease.
“Why no response? You even mentioned ‘Grand Duchess’ in your letter with your own hands.”
That was the reason.
Cassian’s realization that he might be married came from a single sentence in Shion’s usually verbose letter, ‘Even with the shock of the Grand Duchess’s passing, you haven’t properly stayed at the Grand Duchy for a single day!’
‘Grand Duchess’ referred to someone.
It wasn’t just an expression for the Duke’s wife. That would mean he had a wife, and that his wife had died.
“I don’t understand the intention behind the question.”
“Just curious. Whether I really got married.”
And… how that person ended up dead.
With his age, there was a sufficient chance he could’ve married someone.
Considering his personality, it might not seem likely for him to willingly marry someone, but who knows.
Uncharacteristically, he might have fallen in love at first sight or had a reason to get married.
So, even if he got married, the death of the Grand Duchess bothered him.
“Was that a fact that needed confirmation?”
“Yeah, I have amnesia.”
Cassian nonchalantly spoke, still sporting a perplexed expression at Shion, who seemed unable to comprehend his own question.
Shion blinked blankly for a moment at Cassian’s words.
Suddenly, he struggled to grasp what he had just heard.
‘Amnesia?’
This was not something to be taken lightly. But Cassian’s expression remained oddly indifferent.
His revelation did not seem to faze him. Shion, on the other hand, wondered if he misheard something.
Perhaps, he thought he might have misunderstood. Still, it couldn’t be a mistake.
As he listened to Cassian, there was a part of him that now understood the situation.
Although his personality remained unchanged, there was an odd feeling of unease.
The reason being… Cassian had lost his memory.
Due to the memory gap, conversations often took unexpected turns.
“Why have you hidden such an important fact until now?”
“Was there a need to mention it?”
Secrets lasted longer when known by fewer people, especially in a situation where the content of lost memories was unknown.
So it was, trying to hide it even from Shion.
However, to find those lost memories, reluctantly, it was necessary to tell Shion.
That was the only clue to uncovering the lost memories.
“Yes, I am my lord’s aide, am I not? I don’t need to know everything, but at least such an important fact should have been shared with me.”
“So why not say it now?”
Cassian confidently responded, ‘Well, I’ve said it as you wished,’ leaving Shion speechless.
With that attitude, Shion found no words to argue but chose to move on.
“Exactly when do your memories start and where do they end?”
“I’m the one asking the questions. This is to answer my questions, not yours.”
In the face of Cassian’s assertiveness, Shion sighed inwardly and decided to let it go.
“Have you seen my wife?”
The death of his wife, whom he didn’t even know existed, was important, but his curiosity about the person who was his wife took precedence.
What kind of person was her.
Am I , the one who made me decide to get married.
Upon Cassian’s question, Shion made a peculiar expression.
Certainly, it seems he’s have lost his memory.
To throw a nonchalant question about the Grand Duchess with such an expression.
Also, at the same time, even if he lost his memory, it seemed like the feeling wasn’t completely forgotten.
Even though he has no memory of it, he shows interest in the existence of the Grand Duchess.
“Because she lived in a separate villa, we didn’t get to see her often, but we did meet her a couple of times.”
“Why did she stay there?”
Cassian looked like he didn’t understand Shion’s answer.
This was because it was not a normal situation.
It would have been natural for her to stay at the Grand Duke’s residence in order to fulfill her role as a hostess, but she stayed at a villa.
So even his aide Shion didn’t see her face a few times.
“I don’t know that far. However, my lord said that it was decided for grand duches’s safety. I don’t know the exact circumstances, but my guess is that grand duchess was being chased by someone.”
Despite Shion’s words, Cassian still had a questioning look on his face.
It was because he couldn’t understand why, despite the safety of the Grand Duchy, he chose to keep his wife in the villa rather than the Grand Duchy.
Besides, she was chased by someone …
If so, is her death for that?
Cassian, who had thought about it for a while, was quietly beating his desk with his fingers with a big look.
“Do you know who was pursuing her?”
“No, I don’t know. It’s just my guessing that I’m chased, but it’s definitely not.”
Cassian frowned in the answer of Shuon.
If that was it, I knew something about memories I didn’t know, but it wasn’t as helpful as I wanted.
What Schreon knew was also very limited.
“About her death? Do you know why and when she died?”
“It was roughly about 12 years ago. However, I don’t know the details of the cause of death. It is speculated that she was murdered by someone, but my lord has refrained from providing specific details about the circumstances.”
“By now, I’m curious. So, how many people are aware of the fact that I have a wife?”
From her existence to the reasons behind her death, he had once kept it all to himself.
Even to the most trusted aide, not even other people.
Somehow, he felt that his past self might have tried to conceal even the fact of his marriage.
Cassian’s suspicion was accurate.
“Only a few people, including me, know about it. Externally, no one is aware of my lord’s marriage.”
‘As expected.’
Cassian, already anticipating this fact, showed no visible reaction.
However, the more he conversed with Shion, the less his questions seemed to be resolved, creating more frustration.
‘…Tsk.’
If finding his memories were a simple matter, he wouldn’t have bothered to call Shion in the first place.
But there was no other choice.
Suppressing his growing irritation, Cassian, as if indicating there was still more to ask, posed another question.
“…. Did I have a daughter?”
