Episode 59
When he returned to the Valley of Roden, the town was in a festive mood.
Having run for three days and nights in pain due to his body wounds, he could not help but be bewildered by the festive atmosphere held in the Valley of Roden.
He had no idea what it was all about.
But it wasn’t just the festival that made him flustered.
The wolves were busy avoiding Kyle, who had appeared after a month, as if he were a stranger.
It was clear that the rumor had spread that he had lost to Abel. So no one welcomed him.
Kyle felt helplessly intimidated when he saw people avoiding him and being wary of him, unlike when they would approach and greet him whenever they met before.
Of course, the more they did that, the more angry he became as he walked away and clenched his teeth.
That was his way of defending himself from the pressure coming from his surroundings.
“How did he get back? Wasn’t it said that he was injured to the point where you wouldn’t be able to get up for several months?”
“Did he come here knowing that Abel was getting engaged?”
Abel was getting engaged?
It was the first time he had heard of it, but Kyle didn’t continue to listen to them and headed straight home.
When he got close to his house, the garden was decorated with beautiful flowers as if someone was having a party, and all his relatives were gathered there.
It was the kind of decoration usually done only for a big celebration, like a birthday party.
Kyle entered the garden, feeling increasingly strange.
“Kyle, you’re back!”
The relatives who saw him came towards him instantly.
But even though they were the ones to come and greet him, their voices were full of caution.
The same went for the way they looked at Kyle.
Moreover, rather than welcoming Kyle, they gathered in front of him as if blocking the path to prevent him from entering the garden.
But as Kyle, who was getting annoyed, was about to yell at them to get out of the way, a commotion was heard from the garden.
Kyle raised his head to where the crowd of people were staring.
They were looking at the second floor terrace of his house, looking straight up from the garden.
His parents were walking there, along the terrace decorated with flowers.
Kyle’s expression hardened as he saw his parents walking out with smiles on their faces.
“…”
He never expected them to spend their time feeling sad.
But even so, he never thought that they would be smiling so nonchalantly while he, their son, was far away in a half-dead state.
Soon, his parents also noticed the commotion caused by Kyle and looked down.
Then they froze in shock when they saw their son, who had not appeared for a whole month.
‘They had probably thought I would never come back even if I die because of my pride.’
Kyle tried to give them a mocking smile filled with resentment.
But realizing that he was the one holding the information about the downfall of this family and he no longer needed to feel intimidated, he looked toward his parents, intending to smile confidently.
But his smile stopped before the corners of his lips could even rise.
Behind his parents, his younger brother Abel walked out. And then, a woman followed him slowly.
“….Zel…da?”
Next to his fully dressed younger brother, the woman in the dazzling white dress was none other than Zelda.
Zelda’s face, which had been smiling brightly, turned pale as soon as she saw Kyle calling her.
Why is Zelda walking out there with my brother?
And that too with my ***** little brother, who nearly killed me and took my place.
Kyle stood there, momentarily stunned, unable to think of anything.
But that didn’t last long.
As if he had been hit in the back of the head, the current situation began to be pieced together in his eyes again.
The whole village which was in a festival mood, the garden where a festival seemed to be held, and the relatives who gathered together as if celebrating some event.
Lastly, the voice he vaguely heard earlier…
‘How did he get back? Wasn’t it said that he was injured to the point where he wouldn’t be able to get up for several months?’
‘Did he come here knowing that Abel was getting engaged?’
No way.
Then the main characters of that engagement are…
Kyle’s incredulous gaze was directed towards the most radiant and beautifully dressed people in the place right now.
They were a man and a woman.
His body froze and he couldn’t even hear the voices of his relatives telling him to hurry out and get some rest.
He couldn’t hear anything properly. The only sound in his dull ears was his heartbeat.
His gaze turned to Zelda, then to his younger brother Abel, standing next to her.
Ah.
Abel eventually took away everything, from his parents’ love to his position as successor, and even Zelda, who had been his lover while he was away.
Kyle’s heart was pounding like it was going to burst.
Finally, he pulled out the sword of the soldier who was guarding the entrance.
All his sense of reason had burned up and disappeared.
Kyle cut down the relatives who were blocking him and ran towards his brother, risking his life just to kill him.
“What are you guys doing! Stop Kyle now!”
As a response to the command, voices burst out from all around and along with these voices, many soldiers rushed in.
Kyle’s body was captured by soldiers before he could even get close to the terrace.
They took down the struggling Kyle and grabbed his arms and legs.
The body that survived the near-death experience had exhausted all its energy from running for three days.
This caused Kyle, who resisted fiercely to be captured by the soldiers before he could use his strength properly.
His head hit the floor and he barely managed to raise his gaze to see his family on the terrace.
They were looking down at Kyle with stern faces.
They looked at his downfall in silence, with indifferent and dry gazes, as if they were looking at a person who had nothing to do with them.
Kyle captured this image of his family through his vision blurred by tears.
That was the last he saw of his family, and the last memory he had of Roden.
***
Kyle woke up from his long-ago thought.
But he was still leaning toward the foggy lake surface, as if he were still stuck in the past, staring blankly at his own appearance.
He remembered vividly that day when he had been abandoned by everyone.
Once again, the faces of the family he saw that day came to mind one by one.
His father who gave his place to his younger brother, his mother who only loved Abel, his younger brother who took everything from him. And…
When he thought of the woman who had been by their side, Kyle’s frozen eyes shook.
That woman was also standing next to his family and looking down at him.
It was strange. The events of that day were so vivid, but strangely, this was the first time the face of the woman in that memory came to mind.
It was a face he didn’t remember before.
Kyle looked shocked and dumbfounded when he remembered her face.
Zelda Arsha.
The moment he was arrested by the soldiers, she was definitely on the terrace where he was trying to jump to.
But why did Zelda just stand there and do nothing when she saw himself being captured?
Kyle closed his eyes and shook his head, thinking that this was a false memory.
But the more he thought about it, the clearer the scene became. Her expression, her eyes.
Zelda just looked at him, with an expression as indifferent as his family, her gaze devoid of warmth.
As if they had no relationship whatsoever.
No, like everyone who had already abandoned him.
Kyle’s eyes trembled with anxiety as he recalled this. Why did he only remember it now?
Kyle had always thought that she had no choice but to become engaged to Abel.
Because he clearly believed that she loved him.
Because he thought that even if no one else believed in him, she would believe in him as much as he believed in her.
But Zelda just stood by his brother’s side even though she saw him being captured by the soldiers.
The moment Kyle recalled her appearance again, he realized something he should have long realized.
He was abandoned not only by his family, but also by the woman he thought he loved.
The only person he thought believed in him ended up abandoning him.
“…”
Perhaps he had been walking this arduous journey, erasing his own memories, because he had never wanted to believe this fact.
He still wanted to believe that at least one person had not abandoned him. He wanted to live by holding on to that.
He wanted to live with the determination to save at least the woman who believed in him.
But it was all his illusion. Kyle’s face turned cold as he realized this.
His face reflected in the water was as pale as a corpse.
His blue eyes no longer had a light to brighten them and was now completely black and dead. Then they spoke to him.
‘You are abandoned by everyone.’
‘See, your woman eventually abandoned you and chose Abel. No. Maybe she never considered you from the beginning. You were the one who got in the way.’
A thick fog gathered around him, binding him with despair.
‘If it weren’t for you, your family would have been more peaceful. If Abel had been the successor, people wouldn’t have been anxious about the future. If it weren’t for you, everything might have worked out well.’
Being abandoned by everyone was proof that no one loved him.
That meant that he was a being that was neither worthy of being loved nor of being of use.
Kyle was devastated when he realized this fact and this devastation threw him into the abyss of darkness.
There, Kyle fell further down, helpless and unable to get out.
A useless soul that didn’t deserve to be loved.
What’s the point of living like this?
Despair made his life meaningless and all his will to live disappeared like dust.
Kyle stood up from his seat, his eyes looking devoid of all motivation.
Dominated by despair and discouragement, he walked slowly into the water like a soul with no will of its own.
As if he was being dragged by the hand of a devil holding a leash, he leisurely headed into the water.
Towards a very deep place.
Like all those moments when he ran away from everything and sank into the lake.
He walked into that terrible
loneliness that was the only thing that accepted him.
Again a voice was heard pulling him towards it.
‘Nobody loves you.’
But when he took another step forward, guided by that voice.
“Kyle!”
Another voice calling him rang out from somewhere.
This chapter caused me to cry a lot and it has a cruel cliffhanger, too. I would love to publish the next chapter soon, but because the internet is now almost entirely exhausted, I can’t update the next three days nor can I add my kofi link in the chapter •́ ‿ ,•̀. It seems like a sign for me to begin studying 😂
Eu entendo totalmente o lado do Kyle, acho que se o irmão mais novo tivesse prestado um pouco mais de atenção, teria visto como ele era tratado pela própria família… Mas efim, ele era criança também, a culpa é toda dos pais deles.
I just feel suffocated in Kyle’s place. Despite everything that happened, he cared enough or was desperate enough to go in this journey forsaking his food and living with the bare minimum for what? It was clearly shown through his past that no one cared about him genuinely ಥ╭╮ಥ
I felt like that either, my heart was suffocated. It’s really sad, that just now he is realizing that everyone hates him. This journey is the full stop for him. Now he can be happy with our rabbit😟🥰
It’s always a cliffhanger😭
I am not the author; he is the one doing that!
Yoooo Ayisha here!!! I couldn’t help it I love this story and your translations so much 🩷 These past couple of chapters broke my heart so much. Why is it that nobody is noticing that Kyle is a victim of his parents abuse. Not Alex, not Zelda, and in a way up until this moment not even kyle himself. Does Alex not realize that he is the golden child? Does he genuinely think he’s a good person for cheating with Zelda and pretending like kyle wasn’t abused. I might be biased but I find them all despicable. I hope Kyle’s parents get their retribution and finally understand how horrendous they are. I hope they regret for the rest of their lives and that kyle never forgives them. It doesn’t help that I was listening to Tyler’s new song like him. I’m sobbing and hurting reading Kyle’s story 🥹
Hello Ayisha, thank you so much for your support! you’re amazing!
I don’t think they are this oblivious; it should have been clear at one point to Abel and Zelda. But again I say, no body genuinely cared. They didn’t try to understand the root of Kyle’s behaviour, always complaining or putting up with it and feeling superior. They are all extremely selfish and that’s what made reading it worse. He had so much affection to give, but didn’t know where to put and just kept being angry, denying everything. I don’t know if I am too biased, but I don’t care.
I feel sorry for Kyle… poor soul
I would like him to abandoned hus family and establish his own house and become much more succesful than his family’s tribe.. with Broody by his side
it is a cliffhanger indeed but at least you will be back not abandoning as like Kyle’s family
I shudder with the thought that the family held party when they know that one of their son is somewhere with unknown condition…
though their son is wicked..
I have a brother, not a good one, everyone else including me doesnt want anything to do with him because he is just that bad but my mother always support him because for her no matter what he is his son…I think that the role of mother and I’ve learned my lesson from this novel
You have said what I am feeling exactly, let’s see how things unfold. Honestly, I also stopped reading at this cliffhanger, so my curiosity is at its peak. As for your brother, he is lucky, parents like these are as previous as gold 🤍
Oh gosh. Poor him. I hope they reconcile already. Thankyou for the translation😭❤️
I am sure they will do! Thank you for reading ☺️
