Episode 58
From that day on, Kyle felt more and more uneasy as the days passed.
The atmosphere inside the house and the attitude of the elders and some of his relatives towards him were both strange.
But he couldn’t figure out exactly what was strange.
He just had a feeling that something important was slipping away without him knowing.
One day, as this suspicious atmosphere continued, his father called Kyle into the study.
When Kyle entered the study, his father looked so tired and haggard, as if he had not slept well for several days
And the reason for this became known later through the words his father spat out at him.
“Kyle, compete with Abel for the position of successor. The winner of the two of you will lead the next generation.”
His command was like a bolt from the blue.
Kyle thought he had misheard.
He stared blankly at his father as if he had no understanding of what he was saying.
Then after standing there for a moment with his mind circuits broken, he asked his father.
“What did you just say?”
His father stared at him in shock, speechless.
But soon, he erased that complicated gaze and opened his mouth again.
This time, his voice was more resolute than before, as if he had made up his mind.
“I have decided to choose a successor for the pack again. So, at the time set by the elders, you will compete with Abel in the sacred grove. I will give the position of successor to the one who wins the competition.”
The fact that the competition was to be held at a time set by the elders… meant that the elders had already made a decision.
Kyle’s heart dropped to the floor when he realized this.
Competing with his younger brother for the position of successor? It was ridiculous. It was something he never dared imagine.
He couldn’t believe that his father, of all people, had allowed this.
Even though Kyle’s father had never trusted him, he was the one who unconditionally thought of him first when it came to being his successor.
But now he wanted him to compete with Abel for that spot.
This was an action that showed no consideration for Kyle’s position at all.
To Kyle, who had already ascended to the position of successor, having him compete with someone who had never been a threat to him, and who was even younger than him, was nothing short of a complete loss of honor.
Even if Kyle won, his honor would be tarnished.
Kyle remembered the last time he had talked to Abel a few nights ago.
Yes, clearly Abel was acting up because of what he said about Zelda back then.
Because of that useless unrequited love of his, because he was too young and was fooled by such a thing as puppy love,
he had tricked their father into doing something so serious.
Kyle could never accept this.
“Don’t talk nonsense. I have no intention of accepting this order.”
“It isn’t nonsense. Isn’t it only natural that the strongest in the pack should become the successor?”
“So, Father, do you now think that Abel guy is stronger than me?”
“I don’t know that, isn’t that why I am suggesting that you two compete to decide your ranks?”
Finally, a scream burst out from his father’s mouth, who was exhausted from fatigue.
But Kyle didn’t back down. He thought Abel couldn’t be stronger than him.
No, he believed that.
Because even though Abel had shown signs of growth up until now, he had never exhibited the strength to stand up to his brother.
So Kyle thought this was completely crazy and that his father was out of his mind for allowing this.
“Just how low do you plan on dragging me down? Aren’t you satisfied with the way you’ve trampled me in front of that guy all this time? Now you’re humiliating me by forcing me to fight that brat in front of everyone!”
His voice trembled along with his clenched fists as he spoke each word.
But even though the father saw his son yelling with a flushed face in humiliation, he stood up, slammed the table, and shouted at him reproachfully.
“If you had shown yourself to be trustworthy, your younger brother would not have dared to look down on you, and the people would have fully accepted you as the successor! The elders would not have unanimously agreed to Abel’s words that he would become the successor either!
I am humiliating you? That’s ridiculous! You are the one humiliating me! You made people question my qualifications as a leader because of raising you as a successor for twenty years!”
Kyle lost his senses when he saw his father blaming himself for everything.
Finally, all the anger he had been holding back exploded. And he shouted at his father in a rage.
“I have never once lived a peaceful life as a successor! Every day, I trained without sleeping properly at night to become a strong leader! I endured everything under my father, who was always strict, making me feel suffocated all the time. I dedicated my life to becoming a successor!
Didn’t you say that my purpose in life was to become the successor and the leader of the pack? That’s the only reason I’ve been carrying that burden without complaint my entire life. Are you going to take my life away from me? Just because of a childish request from your beloved second son? Do you really think that’s fair?”
If he had at least asked him for his opinion before making a decision, he wouldn’t have gotten this angry.
Kyle completely lost his mind and vented his anger by smashing everything around him.
His eyes were filled with hatred towards his father and brother.
The resentment he felt toward his father was also indescribable.
But more than that, he was seething with murderous intent towards Abel, the one who was ultimately responsible for all this.
As expected, his younger sibling should not have existed. If he had known that he would become such a frustrating wall that would block his path, he would never have left him alone.
He had to get rid of his brother so he wouldn’t be able to stand in his way anymore.
Kyle’s eyes, having made up his mind, were completely filled with murder.
The will to kill burned like a cold flame in those blue eyes.
Kyle, who had decided to commit murder, said to his father.
“My father used to say, ‘Eliminate anyone who dares to threaten you.’”
His father’s eyes shook upon hearing Kyle’s declaration of war.
Kyle looked at his father’s face, which was turning pale as he realized what he meant by saying this, and finished his speech with a cruel smile.
“I will kill the man who threatens my position today.”
He ignored his father’s urgent calls, kicked the door and went out.
As soon as he left the study, he headed to Abel’s residence.
Kyle couldn’t think of anything at the moment. He went straight to Abel’s place wanting to see his brother, who had to be killed right away.
His only goal was to kill him to solidify his position, to inflict irreparable wounds on his father and the people who had trusted and loved Abel, and to return the wounds he had received.
There was not even a speck of affection for Abel in his heart.
His younger brother got the parental love he deserved, yet he was now trying to take away not only his parents’ affection, but also his own position.
Kyle, who had completely lost his sense of reason, rushed forward without a moment’s hesitation to erase his younger brother from this world.
And at that moment, Kyle’s mind blackened.
.
.
When Kyle opened his eyes, his body was somewhere other than the Valley of Roden where he had lived all his life.
He was at a deserted cottage located in a remote area, three days away from the Valley of Roden.
Kyle’s body was so badly injured that he couldn’t even move properly.
He was entirely covered in wounds to the point where he couldn’t open his eyes.
Kyle, who lost all memory from the moment he attacked his younger brother, lay in a daze for several days.
And after three days, he realized that the wound that left him unable to get up was inflicted by his own brother.
Yes, his brother had the power to kill him, but he had kept it hidden until now.
When Kyle realized the truth he never wanted to realize, he struggled to stay sane.
The younger brother he had ignored so much could hide so well. No, actually, maybe he knew it too.
The strong power that Abel possessed.
So, maybe that’s why he bared his teeth at Abel every day, and felt anxious as he watched his little brother grow up.
Because he wouldn’t have felt uneasy about someone who wasn’t a threat.
But Kyle ignored his anxiety.
And while Kyle was being so proud, Abel grew up and eventually took his place.
Having lost his lifelong goal to his younger brother whom he had ignored, he spent several days like a madman in that remote place.
Like a madman, he drank alcohol, wandered the streets at night, and did all sorts of crazy things.
He could not admit his defeat, but yet he was consumed by the overwhelming sense of defeat, spending his days in despair without even thinking about getting up again.
But that meaningless time didn’t last long.
One day, when he was getting wasted by alcohol, drinking late into the night, an old witch came to him and said something unbelievable.
“Return to the Valley of Roden before the harvest. The tigers of the canyon are preparing to attack.”
The witch, wearing a black robe, was looking into a small crystal ball in front of her.
She spoke to Kyle with a somewhat sinister and toothless smile.
“Your family doesn’t know this. So if you don’t go first and tell them to be prepared, they will all be annihilated in this war. The tigers will slaughter everyone, not leaving behind any adults or children.”
Still, Kyle, who was drunk, didn’t even try to get up.
But the moment the witch mentioned someone’s name, his mind instantly jolted back.
“Don’t you have a woman to protect?”
Zelda Arsha.
Kyle’s heart raced when he heard that name.
She was someone he had completely forgotten about. But even if he forgot everyone else, he should never forget Zelda.
He didn’t care if tigers invaded his land and killed everyone, including his family.
But he had to save Zelda. Because she was the only one who believed in him.
Because she was the only one who was still waiting for him.
Ultimately, this sense of responsibility caused Kyle to stand up again.
Kyle headed straight for his hometown, the Valley of Roden.
But when he got there after running for three days straight, still in a state of shock, he was met with even more shocking news.
