Episode 27
Outside, the moose were banging on the door, demanding it to be opened.
They were deliberately joking and taking it easy, perhaps thinking that they were just prey that had already been caught.
“Hurry up!”
Jacob stood blocking the locked door and shouted urgently. He planned to stay here and fend off the moose alone.
As he had said, Kyle confirmed that there was a back door in the kitchen and ran straight there.
However, Brody was worried about Jacob being left alone, so she couldn’t turn around right away.
Of course she thought she was putting herself in danger If she did that, but he had no choice but to do that too….
‘If I hand you over, they will spare my mother and younger sister…’
That inevitable circumstance weakened Brody’s heart. So she shouted.
“Mr. Jacob, come with us!”
Jacob, who was struggling to block the door that was shaking as if it was going to fall apart, raised his head upon hearing those words.
Soon his eyes turned red. Jacob forced a smile at her and shook his head.
“Thank you, Miss Brody. But please give me a chance to apologize to you both.”
His will seemed firm. It was a determination that would not be shaken by any persuasion.
“Hey, come quickly!”
Kyle shouted from behind.
Brody finally turned around and said her final goodbyes to Jacob.
“I hope you stay safe.”
Brody and Kyle transformed into their rabbit and wolf bodies respectively, grabbed their backpack, left through the back door, and climbed the small mountain behind the house.
As they reached the halfway point, they heard Jacob screaming along with the sound of a door breaking open from the house.
The two of them stopped in surprise and looked back. Soon after, a moose came running out the back door they had come out of, spotted the two of them on the side of the mountain, and shouted.
“They are running away to the mountains!”
Kyle and Brody, having been discovered, ran like crazy, looking straight ahead, to avoid the moose chasing them.
But Kyle, who would normally have climbed a small hill like this as if it were flat ground, was out of breath today due to the exertion.
It was a symptom that had been going on for a while. He kept losing strength in his body and his vision was spinning.
That’s why Kyle couldn’t stand up to those moose.
He didn’t even try, and he just focused all his energy on running away. Because he knew better than anyone that he was in a situation where he could not fight at the moment.
He felt like he was going to collapse at any moment, but he ran with all his might.
But that also gradually became impossible as they crossed the mountain and entered a snowy field where their legs sank in deeply.
“Kyle!”
Brody was surprised to see that Kyle, who had been running ahead of her, had suddenly fallen behind her and called out to him.
Kyle, who was running, suddenly stumbled violently. At that moment, Brody ran back in panic at the sight of that.
But her body froze in the snow before she could take a few steps.
In the distance, huge moose, clad in the darkness of night, climbed the mountain ridge.
The sight of the pitch-black beasts approaching one by one, exhaling steam, was on a completely different level from the giants she had imagined before.
It was incredible how big a deer could be. With their antlers spread out like a hand and their enormous body to match, they seemed like creatures from another dimension. Their sizes were so unrealistic.
“Over there!”
They found Kyle and Brody running through the white snow and shouted.
At the same time, nearly ten beasts came running, cutting through the snow like a light stream.
Brody saw the sight and shouted at Kyle.
“Kyle! Behind us!”
Kyle, who had been running with difficulty, turned around at her shout.
And when he came face to face with the giant moose charging towards them, he knew it was all over.
It was an instinct.
The ground shook as if a cavalry unit was charging.
At that moment, he felt himself becoming more and more confused, in addition to feeling the vibration of the sound.
The moose that followed him kicked his body with its leg. Kyle was kicked by the foot and flew into the snow without any strength.
“No!”
Brody ran towards him as she saw the moose surrounding him in an instant.
Kyle, who was losing consciousness after being trampled and kicked by them, saw the rabbit running towards him and screamed at the top of his lungs.
“Don’t come!”
That meant she had to run away. But Brody couldn’t turn around like she had when she left Jacob behind.
She ran towards him, crying, as she kept her eyes on Kyle, who looked like he was going to die at any moment.
Brody climbed onto Kyle’s body as she broke through the moose that had gathered to half-kill Kyle.
Then, she wrapped her whole body around him and shouted that she would protect him.
“No! Don’t step on him!”
But to the moose, it was just a funny sight.
“What is this?”
The merciless moose kicked Brody in the stomach. And Brody, who was kicked by the moose, was unable to breathe for a while and then fell down.
“Brody….”
Kyle looked at Brody lying in front of him through his blinking vision.
He wanted to stretch out his leg to examine the rabbit, but his body wouldn’t listen.
His eyelids drooped heavily. With that, Kyle fell into a deep sleep that swallowed his mind.
***
Her stomach hurt and her head was spinning.
Brody regained consciousness and slowly opened her eyes, wiggling her still body.
The first thing that caught her eyes was the iron bars.
She was in a huge prison, like a cage for confining wild animals.
And through the iron bars a messy scene was visible. Large oak barrels and wooden boxes were piled up all around.
Judging by the floor moving as if floating on water and the sound of the water rushing outside, this place seemed like a storeroom inside a ship.
Brody writhed in agony. Only then did she realize that her body was bound with rope.
Eventually, it seemed like she was caught by the moose and dragged somewhere. Fortunately, her backpack containing her map and pocket watch was not taken.
She guessed they thought it wouldn’t be a big deal because the volume of it was so small.
Without even taking a moment to despair, she searched immediately for Kyle.
While she was struggling to move her body and look around, Brody shouted in surprise when she saw Kyle lying right behind her.
“Kyle!”
He too, like Brody, had his legs bound with rope, and his mouth was also covered with rope because of his particularly sharp fangs.
In fact, the moose tried to tie a rope around Brody’s mouth too, but her snout was too small, so they left it as it is.
“Kyle, wake up!”
Brody woke him up in a small voice, as if someone might hear, but Kyle just laid there motionless.
Could he be dead? Brody cried in fear, thumping his body with her two tightly bound forelegs.
“Get up, don’t die…!”
At that moment, a growling sound was heard from Kyle, and his eyes opened.
In fact, he had been awake since a while ago. He was just pretending to sleep because he was tired.
“Kyle!”
Brody kept asking him whether he was okay as soon as he opened his eyes, even though he was unable to answer.
Luckily, Kyle was okay.
Of course, his whole body hurt from being beaten by the moose’s feet, but he could endure it.
However, since he was mentally very tired, he felt a little resentful that the moose didn’t tie Brody’s mouth while he continued to show his temper.
“I’m sorry, Kyle…This is all my fault. If only I hadn’t accepted Mr. Jacob’s invitation…”
Kyle’s eyes, which had been closed, opened. Now that he thought about it, there was something he needed to hear from her about Jacob.
He couldn’t ask about the whole story of the incident last night because they were running away in a hurry.
Brody looked at Kyle’s questioning face and said with tears in her eyes in apology.
“Actually, it was Mr. Jacob who promised to hand us over to the Moose. They threatened to take his family away if he didn’t hand us over, so he brought us into his house in the first place to hand us over to them.”
As he listened to her, Kyle’s eyes, which had been wide open, soon closed tightly. His body, which had been raised in surprise without him realizing it, also fell over.
He never dreamed that that **** reindeer would be like that.
At first, he was cautious, but then he followed him when he said he would take them south, and now he regretted it.
Why didn’t he doubt that? The gentleman was just a conman.
Kyle, who was quietly gritting his teeth, guessed that the sudden abnormality in his body was also Jacob’s doing.
Maybe he got something in the meat or soup he ate.
“I’m so sorry, Kyle.”
Kyle glared at Brody, who was still apologizing in front of him.
By the way, this **** rabbit believed very much in the reindeer and said they had to follow him.
He resented the rabbit, but he didn’t think it was all her fault.
It was their fault both for being careless.
Brody, on the other hand, considered all of this to be her own fault.
So she kept apologizing to Kyle until he was exhausted, and only stopped when he started to look blatantly annoyed.
Brody, who was looking at the tired Kyle, suddenly had a question she had never thought of before and looked around.
‘So where are these moose taking us?’
It was a question that had come to mind before.
Brody tried to remember. Has there been any incident related to this situation described in the original story about Kyle’s polar journey?
But no matter how much she looked back, there was none.
Since Kyle was the villain, or in other words, the second male lead, his narrative was not detailed, and of course, his survival from the polar regions was also simply concluded with a few sentences about how he came back alive with the help of his guide, Brody May.
Because of this, Brody was at a loss as to how to proceed with the situation, as she had no information about the itinerary.
The first thing that mattered was knowing where the ship was going and what these moose were planning to do with them.
As shee was looking around for any clues, suddenly, with the sound of footsteps, the dark warehouse door opened and light poured in.
Then a moose man she saw last night walked in and said.
“You’re awake.”
It was a moose that she recognized immediately even though she was pretending to be asleep.
Brody slowly opened her eyes and looked at the moose.
Of course, her body was completely trembling and she was curled up in a huddle.
The Moose laughed at Brody for being like that.
Brody felt bad, but she couldn’t show it because she was afraid of the giant moose.
“What are you going to do with us?”
She asked in a trembling voice. The Moose answered, sitting on an oak barrel and smoking a cigarette.
“What do you think we’re going to do?”
“…I’m asking because I don’t know that.”
Brody was good at talking back even though she was trembling. Moose smiled at Brody and said.
“Do you know about sea monsters?”
