I left my cheating husband and married a beast

ILMCHAMB Chapter 05

Chapter 05

“What do I do?”

Beloni scratched her cheek as she stared at the firmly shut door.

“Seriously, what do I do?”

What just happened felt unfair.

There was no light, so she couldn’t see a thing, and she had to rely on her vague sense of direction to move. Assuming the room was structured like her own, she headed toward the bed, only to trip over something.

The problem was that, as she fell, she accidentally pulled on Shanur’s robe. Thankfully, it didn’t rip but only slid, sparing her from a bigger disaster.

“Beloni Jerem!”

The furious shout that followed made her realize she was lucky Shanur at least knew her name.

She quickly fled the room.

Even though she still couldn’t see, her survival instincts kicked in, and she managed to escape without further incident. Though it might have looked like her fall was intentional…

The dark hallway seemed empty, with no sign of Michel. Beloni sighed deeply again.

“Let’s think this through.”

When she tripped, she had felt Shanur’s chest—solid and perfectly toned.

“No, that’s not the point!”

Why had he taken her in as a maid?

If Shanur were a truly uptight person, he wouldn’t have even considered her offer. This situation had nothing to do with their agreement.

Sending her, as a maid, into Shanur’s room likely meant cleaning or assisting him. That would mean spending most of her time with him, and if that were the case…

“Aha!”

He must’ve taken her In to claim her purity!

Beloni slapped her forehead as she realized his intent.

There couldn’t be any other explanation.

Excited by her revelation, she knocked on the door.

“Your Highness.”

Knock, knock.

No answer.

“May I come in? Are you still mad?”

Knock, knock, knock.

Still no response.

“It was an accident!”

Just as she was about to knock again, the doorknob turned.

Beloni’s face lit up as the door opened, revealing Shanur’s imposing figure.

“Your Highness, I’ll cooperate fully.”

“What? Cooperate with what?”

His voice still carried a hint of irritation.

Beloni, unbuttoning the collar of her maid uniform, took a step forward.

“Let’s just get it over with quickly. I didn’t expect you to change your mind so fast overnight…”

Smack!

A dull pain spread across her forehead, and Beloni’s eyes widened.

“Are you out of your mind?”

Shanur yelled, pressing his palm against her forehead to keep her from getting any closer.

“Why are you suddenly undressing?”

“Isn’t this what you wanted?”

“What?”

“Why else would you give me a maid’s uniform?”

“What does that have to do with this?”

Beloni faltered, her thoughts spinning. She couldn’t possibly explain what she had assumed.

Meanwhile, Shanur was equally flustered. He had only given her the maid’s uniform to keep her close, unaware it would lead to such a misunderstanding.

Sighing, he cautiously withdrew his hand. Thankfully, Beloni didn’t make another move toward him.

Shanur noticed her forehead was red and swollen even in the dim light. He clicked his tongue in irritation, realizing he’d overreacted.

“I’m not accepting your proposition yet. Making you a maid is just a way to keep an eye on you.”

He hadn’t expected to explain his motives so plainly. Pressing his throbbing temple, he continued,

“Anyway, I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. I truly intend for you to work as a maid until I make a final decision.”

Beloni, realizing her mistake, apologized immediately.

“Oh, I misunderstood. I’m sorry about earlier, too.”

Even as he adjusted his new robe, Shanur felt oddly exposed, as if his chest was still bare.

“That’s enough.”

Tightening his robe, he added,

“Take your maid duties seriously until I decide.”

He had braced himself for Beloni to take offense. After all, despite her circumstances, she was still a marquis’s daughter.

But instead, Beloni grinned.

“Did Michel tell you already? I’m great at work.”

“What?”

“I’ll prove my worth to you!”

She nodded confidently but hesitated for a moment.

“It’s just… I can’t see in the dark. Something like earlier might happen again…”

Her gaze shifted to her hand, which had tugged at his robe earlier. Shanur followed her eyes and felt anger bubbling again.

“…Open the curtains while you work.”

“Yes, Your Highness!”

Shanur leaned back and watched Beloni clean his room. Her petite frame was surprisingly strong as she moved tirelessly.

Despite her background, her cleaning skills were impressive. She was fast and thorough, enough to earn even Shanur’s grudging admiration.

Shanur stared at her delicate hands.

“How do I even grab that?”

The memory of their earlier accidental touch lingered, and he justified making her his maid to ensure more “accidental” encounters.

Meanwhile, Beloni reflected on her disastrous day.

“…Why is my luck so bad?”

Shaking her head, she resolved to handle Shanur’s curse—no matter what.
