I Found a Husband When I Picked up the Male Lead

IFHWPUML Chapter 2

***

Two months before the wedding.

“If you borrow money, you should really pay it back!”

Crash

A luxurious vase was swept to the ground and broke.

“Hey! Didn’t you say you’d give us a little more time?”

The Baron shouted in a stern voice at the intruders, but it was no use.

They seemed intent on barging in and taking any item that could be worth any amount of money.

“Look here, Baron. We generously extended the period, considering your status, a whole six months. Do you have anything left to say? Huh?”

Wilhazelle, who had been watching the scene unfold from the side, had a foolish thought.

‘They look like real gangsters with such scary faces.’

The inside of the well-maintained mansion was now a mess due to the intruders.

She gazed down at the dress she was wearing. It was a dress that had been tailored for her at a boutique she frequented. You could tell just by looking at it that the dress had cost a fortune.

However, due to all of the luxurious things she owed, her father was currently standing in front of her, having trouble with the intruders because he was unable to pay back the money that they had borrowed. Her mother was standing next to him, wiping away her tears.

The scene was out of place, but it was reality.

“You should have been more frugal.”

She was muttering softly, but with the commotion, no one was able to hear.

“Please, just give me a little more time. If you give us just a bit more time, we will be able to repay the money that you borrowed us.”

The gangster glanced pitifully at Baron Frosier and spoke.

“I will take the items roughly worth the money as collateral, and I will give you two more months. If you don’t repay the money you owe within that period, that will be the end. We will then take your daughter as payment as well.”

The gangsters dark gaze then swept over her, from her head to her feet.

Wilhazelle trembled at the uncomfortable gaze. Goosebumps appeared on her body. She felt sick.

“That’s nonsense!”

“Then make sure to pay back the money.”

“…Fine.”

Baron Frosier lowered his head. His wife, standing beside him, grabbed onto her husbands arm for support, legs turning weak.

“Let’s go.”

The intruders who had been rummaging through the living room then left, three people were left standing in the disorderly room.

Baron Frosier, his wife and their daughter, Wilhazelle Frosier, the cause of this mess.

“Lizelle… I’m sorry. Your father had failed you.”

The Baron said to his daughter who was just standing there.

Wilhazelle looked at her father who appeared to be at a loss of what to do. The Baron flinched as she shook her head.

“No. You did it to save our family.”

When his daughter, who he thought would be angry and throw a tantrum, said something warm, the Baron was so moved that tears formed in his eyes.

He thought his daughter had really grown up now.

“Lizelle!”

Wilhazelle patted her father on the back as he hugged her.

She thought, ‘It’s not your fault. It’s all because of Wilhazelle.’

Wilhazelle Frosier.

She had turned 20 this year and began enjoying all kinds of luxuries from the moment she stepped foot into high society. Not only did she buy clothes and jewelry that were unnecessary luxurious, she had also drained the families safe by purchasing limited edition items that were difficult to obtain.

Baron Frosier, who loved his daughter dearly, was unable to stop her extravagance.

All her parents had wanted was to give her the best of everything.

As a result, the family quickly ran out of money.

Although he was not a high-ranking nobleman, Baron Frosier, who had enough money to support his family comfortably, began to falter.

When he was unable to pay the salaries of his employees, he realized something was wrong and began borrowing money from the bank.

‘But that money was also spent on Wilhazelle’s extravagant hobbies.’

The Baron would take out a loan from the bank and Wilhazelle would indulge herself more. As this pattern continued to repeat itself, it got to the point where the bank would no longer loan them money.

Since he couldn’t repay the loans and they just kept piling on debt, it was hard to find ways to borrow money.

But Wilhazelle didn’t care what the family’s financial situation was like. She searched for things that were valuable and more expensive than others, things that would make her appear even more beautiful. She would ask her father for money and commit unreasonable acts.

Eventually the Baron turned to the moneylending business when the bank blocked him from taking out any more loans.

As a result, the disaster of that day had occurred.

“Don’t worry, Lizelle. I’ll never hand you over to them!”

The sight of a father who truly cared and worried about his daughter was extremely touching. She nodded her head with a smile.

“Yes, father. We’ll work together to solve this.”

“Lizelle… My daughter!”

As her father held her in his wide arms, her smile disappeared and her face hardened.

‘Phew. I don’t feel guilty at all.’

It wasn’t her who had been extravagant enough to put their family in debt. That was the result of the actions committed by the previous owner of this body.

However, it was ironic that she was the one who had to deal with the aftermath. That day marked one week since she had become Wilhazelle.

“With this, we should be able to repay some of the debt.”

She listed the bags and accessories that filled the dressing room. When it was all listed out like that, the amount was enormous.

“This should be enough to get us out of immediate trouble, for now.”

Wilhazelle shook her head and checked the items that could be resold.

Since the dresses were all custom made, it was obvious that even if she sold them, she wouldn’t get much money. Therefore, it seemed like a good idea to focus on mainly reselling accessories such as the bags and jewelry.

Most of them were limited edition necklaces, earrings and handbags that would definitely be worth money.

“Merhyn.”

“You called for me?”

Butler Merhyn opened the door and entered the room, it was as if he had been waiting for her call.

“Return everything, except for this. If you are unable to get a refund, then resell it. I’m sure we will be able to find people willing to buy them.”

Wilhazelle requested that everything be sold except for the family ring that her parents had made and the emerald necklace that she had been unable to take her eyes off of since the moment she had seen it.

The necklace had a simple design with a single emerald, so even if it was resold, it would not have been worth much.

‘It should be okay to keep at least one of these.’

Since she had liked the necklace from the first time she had seen it, she wanted to keep it. She wore the family ring on her finger and the necklace around her neck, in case they got taken away with the other items.

“You mean everything?”

Merhyn showed an expression of disbelief, eyes wide.

“Huh, it’s a lot isn’t it? Sorry, I will still need to trouble you to take care of it even if it will be a lot of work.”

“Oh, no. That’s not it, miss. Are you sure you’re okay with this?”

Wilhazelle stared at the elderly butler, Merhyn, who was looking at her like she was crazy now. Wilhazelle answered in a stern voice to show it was no joke.

“I am serious so please go and sell them.”

It was understandable that the Baron and the butler were surprised. Her whole attitude had changed in just one short week.

She recalled the novel she had been reading because she was board. After reading halfway through, she fell asleep. When she woke up, she had possessed a supporting character in the novel. One with no significant role.

She became Wilhazelle Frosier, who ruined her family due to her extravagance.

‘Because her role was so small, I only found out a few days ago that I possessed a supporting role in the novel.’

In the middle of the novel, there was a story about a small-time villain who bought a title with money.

It had been Baron Frosier who sold that title.

So, in the end, the reason the Baron had no choice but to sell his title was because of Wilhazelle…

Wilhazelle was an attractive woman with an appearance that would make anyone passing by turn their head. Her neat, light brown hair and green eyes resembling olives were refreshing, and her red lips beneath her pointed nose were as red as a rose.

Her skin was smooth and white and it seemed like if you pinched her cheeks, dew would flow from her skin.

She was originally pretty, but her beauty was made with money.

“I, Merhyn, have served your family for 20 years, and have never seen a day as emotional as today.”

Merhyn was so moved that he had to use his handkerchief to wipe away the tears that were forming in his eyes.

Wilhazelle smiled awkwardly, wished him luck, and left the room quickly. She had noticed Merhyn’s eyes twinkling as if he would embrace her at any moment.

“Of all times, why did I have to possess her now, in this situation?”

Wilhazelle muttered to herself.

Even if she had to possess her, couldn’t it have been before the family went into debt?

According to the novel, Baron Frosier and his family would soon be ruined, and her father would sell the title to the small-time villain.

“Then what would happen to me? Would I go from a noble lady to a beggar?’

“No, no way.”

She shook her head. No matter how the story in the novel went, or who the male and female leads were, rising money was the priority at the moment.

‘If this continues, I could end up in the hands of the loan sharks in two months…’

Since her father did not have much power, she would need to help out. She no longer wanted to live the life of struggling with money. She had already experienced that in her past life and wanted to escape poverty this time.

‘Bu where could I get that much money?’

A total of 80 million shillings…

She wandered aimlessly through the streets, steps heavy.

Originally, Wilhazelle would have taken a carriage, even if the distance was short, so her dress would not be ruined. If that wasn’t enough, she carried extra shoes. A pair for indoor use and a pair for outdoor use, saying that her expensive shoes would get damaged otherwise.

But she was different.

The hem of the expensive dress she was wearing was dragging on the ground and she didn’t care one bit.

Calling a carriage… Changing her shoes… She felt more comfortable walking on her own two feet rather than doing such troublesome tasks.

‘Anyway, how should I make money?’

While walking and thinking, a strong wind blew through the quiet street. A paper that had been stuck to the wall fluttered and took flight. It floated in the air, like a bird, and stuck to Wilhazelle’s face.

“Ah!”

When the paper blocked her vision, she shrieked in surprise, quickly removing the paper with jerky movements.

“What the heck?”

As she was roughly crumpling up the paper, thinking it was trash, she quickly stopped after seeing the word ‘shilling’.

She then flattened it out and read what was written.

“Halos… Duke?”

At that moment, a sentence passed through her mind.

[The Duke of Halos, known as the richest man in the empire, struggled to find his lost child.]

“This is it.”

Wilhazelle’s eyes burned with enthusiasm. A smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
