I Found a Husband When I Picked up the Male Lead

IFHWPUML Chapter 7

That night, Wilhazelle covered Raphel’s small body with a blanket as he lay on the bed, careful not to let the cold in.

“Good night Raphel. See you in the morning. If you feel any pain or discomfort, just pull the chord, okay?”

Her hand gently smoothed Raphel’s hair softly and he looked like he was starting to fall asleep.

“Ah, wait!”

Raphel suddenly grabbed her hand as she started to walk away.

He looked quite anxious, as if he could burst into tears at any moment.

“Raphel?”

Worried, she quickly approached him again. Clear tears could be seen building up in the corners of his eyes.

“Are you alright? Do you feel any pain?”

“It’s dark…”

The small hand twitched and held on tight to her fingers as if he didn’t want to let go. His teary eyes looked like they were hoping for something. There was no way she wouldn’t be able to see what he wanted. There was a large empty spot on the bed next to Raphel who was alone in the large space.

“Shall we sleep together?”

She smiled softly as she wiped Raphel’s tears. She had thought he might prefer to sleep alone and had tried to make him as comfortable as possible, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. In a way, it was only natural for a child who had spent many nights alone in a garbage dump to be afraid of being alone in the dark… She quickly grasped the situation.

“Yes!”

Raphel’s gloomy expression was quickly replaced with a bright smile. And then, just incase Wilhazelle tried to leave again, he quickly scooted over and made room for her on the bed.

‘I can’t believe I was trying to make this child sleep alone.’

Regretting her own judgement from before, she quickly laid her body down on the bed next to the child.

“Hehehe.”

Raphel turned to face her with his bright smile as she settled down onto the bed.

The scary nights spent alone in the garbage dump, where there was no human warmth to be found, were no more.

There were no more nights where he would spend the time trembling in fear and crying.

There were no more nights he would spend crying out for his mom and dad, closing his eyes tightly, covering his ears with his hands, out of fear that the darkness would swallow him whole or that a scary monster would come.

Raphel smiled happily at the thought of being able to sleep in a soft bed, covered with a cozy blanket with a warm body next to him.

“I’ll stay by your side, so sleep in peace, Raphel.”

Lizelle Patted him as he laid on his side facing her.

“Mmmhhh.”

Feeling relieved that he was no longer alone, Raphel rubbed his sleepy eyes, that were slowly closing with fatigue, with his tiny fingers.

“You have to stay here. Don’t…go.”

He muttered as he gradually drifted into sleep. Soon, a soft breathing sound came from Raphel, who was now asleep. His chest rose and fell rhythmically as he breathed.

“Sweet dreams, Raphel.”

Deep into the night, Wilhazelle continued to comfort Raphel with a soothing touch, hoping that the child would have peaceful dreams, without any nightmares. It had been a long time since she had slept in the same bed as another person, maybe that’s why she felt that the empty space in her heart was gradually being filled.

Wilhazelle decided to postpone her plan to visit the Duke as soon as she found Raphel. He had not fully recovered yet. She would wait a bit longer, just until he regained his health.

“…”

“…”

The two peoples soft breathing was soon the only thing that could be heard in the room.

“So, I’m planning to keep Raphel here until he recovers, then I’ll take him to the Halos estate.”

As soon as the sun rose above the horizon, Lizelle brought Raphel down at her father’s call and explainer her plans to her parents as she sat in front of them.

She had tried to leave Raphel with the butler for a little bit, but because he was wary of strangers, she had no choice except to bring him with her because he was sticking to her side, refusing to part.

“This child…”

Baroness Rosalie looked at the child sitting across from her, eyes trembling.

She wasn’t able to see his features clearly because he had been covered in dirt, but after washing clean, his black hair as well as his red eyes, that were showing his anxiety, were clearly visible.

Both of these features were the symbol of the Halos family.

“I see…”

The Baron and baroness had nothing else to say. They just felt sorry for the child.

The story of the unfortunate death of Yorne Halos, the former Duke, in a carriage accident was a very famous incident in the empire. Famous enough to even be feature in the newspaper. According to the article, the woman who was riding with him also died on the spot, along with the former Duke.

The small child had lost both of his parents in an instant.

“Lizelle…”

Raphel’s hands trembled as he clenched onto the hem of Wilhazelle’s clothes.

He was frightened by the unfamiliar gazes of the Baron and Baroness staring at him.

“It’s alright. Raphel. These are my parents.”

She patted the cautious Raphel’s head affectionately.

“Your mother?”

“Yes. My mom and dad. They would never hurt you. You can rest assured.”

“Wilhazelle’s mom and dad.”

Raphel’s eyes widened when he heard the words ‘mom and dad’ and he looked back and forth between the Baron and Baroness.

“It’s alright, child.”

When Raphel finally made eye contact, Rosalie smiled at him. Her smile made her look a lot like Lizelle seated next to him.

“There are two Lizelle’s!”

Raphel looked between the two alternately, curious. Looking again, the aura and faces of the two were very similar.

“We look very similar, right? It’s because I’m her mother.”

Lizelle found his confused look to be cute and let out a chuckle. From someone else’s perspective, the baroness and her looked quite similar in appearance.

They looked so similar that it seemed like she had inherited mostly her mothers blood, the only thing she shared in common with her father was her hair color.

“Don’t I look like Lizelle?”

When only his wife was mentioned, the Baron seemed to be upset. He leaned forward and showed his face to Raphel. Raphel looked back and forth between the Baron and Lizelle, then shook his head.

“No! You’re not Lizelle!”

“Hahaha. Lizelle looks more like me than you.”

Rosalie smiled at Raphel’s reaction.

The Baron, who had been denied, stood up with a sullen look on his face.

“Let’s just go eat now.”

Unable to hide his disappointment, he began walking toward the dining room.

Rosalie and Lizelle looked at each other and laughed at the Barons attitude.

“Why have you not been able to find him yet?”

The voice echoing in the basement was low and deep.

The men kneeling in front of the owner of the voice were holding their breath and keeping their eyes on the ground.

His gaze was telling them that they had better have a good reason.

“You’re not answering?”

“Well, that’s… Even though I searched everywhere… Not even a hair…”

“Are you kidding me? It’s your job to find him!”

Thunk.

“Ugh!”

Eventually, the owner of the voice couldn’t stand it anymore and kicked the man in the stomach. The man curled up on the ground, in excruciating pain.

The others, who were watching from the side, lowered their heads to avoid making eye contact. If they didn’t do this, it was possible the next kick could be directed at them.

“S-sorry!”

“Bring me his corpse.”

It was truly a cruel and unreasonable request.

The face of the employer who casually said those words was hidden behind a mask. However, the mouth that was revealed looked sinister and vile.

“If you can’t find it, at least prove that he is dead!”

A sharp and wicked voice rang through the basement.

“Yes! Just give me a bit more time and I will find it!”

There was deep contempt in the eyes that were looking down at the men, who were almost lying on the floor, trembling.

He walked by them, tapping each one with the tip of his shoe.

Even though his anger had yet to subside, the men looked too pathetic.

“One month, no more.”

There was obvious anger detectible in his ruthless tone.

“Thank you.”

The employer walked out of the basement and up to the next floor, leaving the men behind.

With the creaking sound of the iron door, along with the incoming sunlight, a small sapphire embedded in the mask he wore sparkled for a brief moment.

The blue light of the jewel colored the room for that brief moment before quickly disappearing, like a mirage.
