“I know.”
“But why are you here?”
I flicked my chin to find some room.
“That one is here.”
“What?”
Benson gave a moment of amazement, then broke into his wild laugh and crossed his arms. Eyes crossed naturally up and down. He looked down at me without saying anything, his lips twitched, then he shook my head before opening his mouth again.
“If the next lord calls, I will go to the castle.”
“Someone in a hurry should find it. And did you plan to come to me right away when I call?”
“No. It must have been very leisurely.”
“Look at that. So I came here myself.”
“Haha.”
He shrugged his shoulders, laughed briefly, then clapped his hand back on his table.
“It’s nice to be bold, but can you tell me the business first? A stone-headed mercenary like me doesn’t like to spin around like this. That’s of no use in this area. The only thing that works is power. That’s enough. “
Benson’s forearms seemed thicker than mine, weren’t they? I lowered my head for a second thinking about it, and rang in a hurry.
“So, I realized once again that I was told to be reckless by starting with the main point, rather than talking around it.”
The words written in the personal information came to my mind.
“If you want to start with the main topic, I’ll start with the main topic.”
“It’s good.”
“I want you to sign a contract.”
“Oh, a contract?”
His eyes widened slightly, and he took over the words immediately.
“Yes. A mercenary contract.”
“A mercenary contract. Do I look like a mercenary in the eyes of the next lord?”
“Aren’t you? I know that there are few S-class mercenaries in the Empire.”
“That’s right. But what I asked is what I look like, not my façade.”
I could understand what he wanted to say without thinking deeply. Suddenly, I wondered if I was leaning on an insignificant façade, but since I came this far, I had no choice but to continue biting and hanging.
“What do you mean by mercenary?”
“Mercenaries? They’re just idiots. Bastards who don’t mind killing people for money. The mercenary guild is a group formed by such guys. I somehow belonged to it and somehow got the title of 5th grade. But look at me, wow. Does that look like that proud fifth-class mercenary? No, not at all.”
He stopped his words, reached out his hand, and with a squeak took out a small medallion and placed it on the table. He shone as if his vivid golden color proved that he was made of pure gold. He said curtly, flicking the medallion with his fingers.
“Do you know what this is? It’s a medal that only S-class mercenaries can receive. You don’t think this is a big deal, right? Enjoy being supported by other mercenaries.”
Heavy perverts, his last words after putting the medal back inside were somehow funny. It was quite interesting to accuse the others of being perverts, even though he was one of them. I wondered if this man was really as eccentric as the rumors had it, so I looked closely and his mouth trembled.
“So you’re living like this? Alone in a house with no doors?”
“It’s not bad. There are people who are a little annoying and I hit them a few times and they became quiet. Not to mention the nobles, who came to escort me and went out with their eyes wide open. But I can’t say anything. It’s because I’m worried about being attached to the enemy or they need me, just like you.”
“That’s right.”
He nodded and acknowledged his words. That’s not wrong. It is true that I came to ask for an escort, hoping that his skills would be as good as his notoriety and rumors.
“I also came to ask you for a mercenary contract.”
“If you remember what I said earlier, you can infer my answer, right?”
“You use quite classy words.”
“Even though I look like this, my head is incredibly smart.”
I smiled at him as he patted his head. It’s was now or never.
“I’ll help you.”
“Who? Me?”
“Yes. You need help.”
“I think you’re misunderstanding something. It’s the next lord lady who came here because she needed help. I don’t really need any help.”
“No.”
I drew a sharp line. I looked at his frowning face. He was frightened by the hardened face, but he couldn’t avoid it.
“You need my help.”
From now on, it was important to take the initiative. I have to be prepared to have a bone broke if I went in wrong. That’s why I quickly and sharply hit his horse and went in.
“They are blatantly criticizing the mercenaries, but they themselves are still unable to step down from their positions. That’s not to say they aren’t making a lot of money using that position, nor are they enjoying any benefits.”
“Hey, the next lord. You’d better be careful with your words. By the way, if I’m angry, I won’t care…”
“Isn’t that what you’d rather be? I hope someone takes the title of mercenary off of you.”
“What?”
I got up from the chair as well, following him who got up from his seat with the sound of the chair. The atmosphere was red and red, but you shouldn’t be pushed. It gave more strength to the eyes.
“I did some research on you and found out a rather interesting fact. Your parents were killed by mercenaries when you were eight?”
My eyes widened. I thought my voice was ringing, but my voice burst out enough to fill the room.
“Hey!”
At that moment, a tremendous strong voice poured out. My legs trembled. I was not used to it, because no one had ever shown such intense hostility towards me, but I had to endure it. Just as he was taking a big breath of victory, the door opened and the knights entered with black bellies. They checked on me and Benson and seemed to try to surround me. But I shook my head and dissuaded them. Ignoring the escort knights with embarrassing faces, he opened his mouth again.
“I was amazed when I read those materials. How could the people who killed your parents be mercenaries, but how could they become mercenaries themselves?
I spread my fingers.
“Is it a contract?”
The papers on the table and the papers he had taken out in advance were the leash that bound him and an important sign that was trampling on his life. Benson’s eyes wrinkled.
“The current Mercenary Guild killed your parents and took you in for training. It must have been a very harsh training. Your parents were also quite famous mercenaries, so they probably wanted to train you to become a useful slave. And you’re now 5th grade. When you started working with the title of a high-level mercenary, you were already bound by a contract and couldn’t escape.”
“Hey, do I look like an idiot who can’t do anything because I’m bound by that contract? I am not tied to anything…”
“Borya.”
Benson, who had been bluffing as hard as he could, stopped talking. And I didn’t miss the chance.
“I was surprised that you had the same first name rather than last name, but are you two brothers?”
“That…”
“As you said, if it was my personality, I would have ignored the contract and ran away. I have skills. What’s scary? You could have been full and warm if you entrusted yourself to some prominent nobleman. But you didn’t, then? One reason. There are hostages: your only blood relative.”
There was no more bravado or jade diameter. There was only a man who quietly listened to my story. The softening atmosphere made it easier to open my mouth, so I could continue to press him.
“It wasn’t particularly the intention of taking your brother after killing your parents. But for some reason, the guild leader saved both of you, giving you training and your younger brother as a hostage. The result was a very useful thing. A winner-horse was born. That horse is you.”
“So? So what?”
Benson snorted. There was a lot of hostility on his face that looked very displeased.
“When I put in a formal petition to resolve this issue, the nobles all shut up. Rather, they said that if they helped me, they would help me get my brother back. But the result? I would rather make my dog bite my hand. I buried a lot of blood for one only reason, and that’s to regain my brother! “
A cry that was almost like a scream was heard sadly.
Bang!
His hand that had hit the table trembled as I stared at him. That devotion to protect his brother. It felt like I was seeing myself in the past, and somehow I felt foolish. However, he tried to suppress his emotions and spoke calmly.
“So you need me. I need you too. Who are you trying to kill by using me too?”
“There’s no such thing. I don’t hire mercenaries for the purpose of killing people. I just want you to escort my twin sister.”
To lighten the mood, I used a soft tone and expression again. His face contorted with confusion.
“An escort? To escort your sister? What’s your plan? No, I don’t even have to listen. Anyway, this conversation won’t last much…”
“What are you talking about? I’m not one to waste my time like this.”
I reached out my hand to the knight standing at the door. The knight nodded and went out of the house. After a while, the driver brought a boy who still looked young. Benson, who had been staring at him as if he couldn’t understand what he was doing, opened his eyes wide and opened his mouth.
“Borya?!”
Surprised by the sudden appearance of his brother, Benson stopped and looked at me. Benson looked blankly at his brother and then turned to me.
“What is that?”
“Didn’t I tell you? I don’t deal in losing trades. Time is very precious.”
I smiled and took out a document and a pen from my bosom and held them in both hands. I shot the last point towards Benson, who was making a blank expression.
“The signature is this way.”
He looked down at the contract on the table and tapped it with his fingernail. A rough and urgent signature caught my eye. When he raised his eyes, there was a bear-like man looking after his younger brother. The two looked very happy. His older brother was overjoyed at having his brother back, and his younger brother was weeping over the happiness of meeting his older brother. Somehow, it made me uncomfortable. Others celebrated their reunion, but to me it was a pretense.
‘…Ersia.’
I forcibly turned my head, thinking that the slightly frowning eyes would tell me what I was dirty inside.
“It took a lot of money. From getting him out of the mercenary guild to bringing him here.”
Actually, it didn’t cost that much. When the boy named Borya was taken out, the forced detention was confirmed and public power was used, and only Benson had to pay compensation. The amount called by the guild was hot, so I was thinking of doing a little redemption with the entrepreneurial spirit, but with the idea of going over well, I united with the money.
“You’ll have to pay what you deserve, Benson.”
“Say anything… anything within the span of my life.”
