Chapter 03
Mikael, the divine beast, was an ordinary cat during the day.
But at night, he transformed into his true form—a majestic white-maned lion.
Since he was a powerful predator, most wild animals avoided him, so it was rare for him to be attacked.
‘Someone healed him.’
There were traces of divine healing power on Mikael.
But as far as Cassius knew, there was no one in the Holy Kingdom with healing abilities.
Healing was an extremely rare attribute, even for someone like Cassius, the Holy Emperor. Whoever had this power must have been hiding it.
‘Well, it doesn’t matter.’
Unlike other divine powers, healing couldn’t fully awaken, making it nearly useless.
At best, it could treat small wounds. Using holy water was much more effective than calling a healer. Because of this, healers were often ridiculed or dragged into troublesome situations.
They probably hid their power to avoid being ignored or burdened.
‘If I ever find out who it is, I should thank them.’
As Cassius checked Mikael’s condition, he suddenly froze.
A familiar scent lingered on Mikael.
A soft, delicate fragrance.
For a moment, an image of Sonia appeared in his mind.
His instincts whispered to him—her scent would be even more intoxicating up close.
His throat tightened.
The sweet, gentle aroma tickled his senses.
It was an Omega’s pheromone—powerful enough to stir something deep within him.
‘Why am I reacting like this…?’
He had encountered Omegas before, but they had always repulsed him.
Yet, Sonia’s scent was different. It was… pleasant. He wanted more.
His expression darkened.
The scent was strongest on Mikael’s front paw.
It carried traces of shock, pain, and sharp emotions.
Mikael must have hurt her.
“You better come up with a good excuse.”
He had harmed someone.
At night, Mikael wasn’t just a massive beast—he could also communicate.
But during the day, he was clueless.
Cassius’s warning meant nothing to the daytime Mikael, who simply purred, enjoying his owner’s touch.
This wasn’t the time to be petting a cat.
If she was injured, healing wouldn’t be easy.
Cassius raised his hand.
A waiting attendant immediately stepped forward.
“You called for me, Your Holiness?”
Cassius was about to order a search for a young healer but hesitated.
Sonia wanted to keep her power a secret. Sending the Holy Knights after her would only cause trouble.
It would be better to go himself.
His decision was made in an instant.
“I’ll be stepping out. Take care of the office.”
“You’re going out? What about your work?”
“There’s something more important than paperwork.”
With that, Cassius left swiftly, without guards.
The attendant stood in shock.
The documents Cassius had set aside were the result of three years of investigation.
What could possibly be more important than this?
‘No… If His Holiness is doing this, there must be a reason…’
Cassius never wasted time.
He never mixed personal matters with official duties.
If he was leaving in the middle of work, then whatever he was after had to be truly important.
Convinced, the attendant sighed and picked up Mikael.
“Meow—”
Mikael, unaware of the chaos he had caused, simply meowed for his master.
After the ungrateful cat scratched me and ran off, I headed to the bell tower alone as planned.
I had to climb a long flight of stairs to reach my destination.
When I first became a priest, I despaired at the thought of cleaning the tower.
With no elevators in this world, we had to climb what felt like ten stories of stairs.
At least we only had to clean it once a week.
But after gaining healing abilities, it became much easier.
Using my power helped ease fatigue, so climbing stairs was no longer a problem.
And after discovering the secret reward at the top, I actually started enjoying the climb.
‘I’m here.’
Just below the giant bell was the maintenance room.
It stored tools and supplies, but more importantly, it held something special.
I walked over to a wooden box in the corner.
Inside were items that Ellie and I had secretly stashed.
I had brought blankets and cushions.
Ellie had contributed books and knitting supplies to pass the time.
‘A new book?’
It looked like Ellie had added something recently.
I checked the title and froze.
The Duke Alpha’s Endless Stamina
“Oh, Ellie…”
She really brought this kind of book?
‘I need to scold her.’
Of course, that meant I had to read it thoroughly first.
I cleared my throat and carefully picked up the book.
Then, I unlocked the window latch and swung it open.
Sunlight and a cool breeze filled the wooden room.
I set the book and cushions down, then gazed outside.
A bright blue sky stretched over the white buildings of Magnus, the Holy Kingdom.
The city looked like a coastal town—so open and refreshing.
‘It feels so nice.’
In my past life, I lived in a basement.
Through a small window with steel bars, I used to see the exhaust pipes of passing cars.
I could barely tell if it was day or night.
The only sounds were my parents fighting.
I used to crouch near the entrance, waiting for the shouting to stop, hoping the conflict wouldn’t spill over to me.
But now, I had a peaceful life.
Loving parents, a kind younger sibling, and a warm home filled with good memories.
Even my daily work in the Holy Kingdom felt precious.
‘I won’t lose this.’
I didn’t know what the future held, but I wanted to protect everything.
To do that, I needed to rest when I could.
With newfound determination, I looked at the book.
Even though I was alone, I glanced around, feeling strangely self-conscious.
Then, I focused on reading.
The first chapter of The Duke Alpha’s Endless Stamina was intense.
After all, Alphas were physically superior to Betas and Omegas.
They were good at anything that required physical strength—so, of course, they were amazing in bed too.
Just then, a sharp pain shot through my wrist.
‘Huh?’
I rolled up my sleeve and was shocked.
A long, deep scratch, as if cut by a knife, was there, with small drops of blood pooling in the wound.
It must have been from the cat’s claws.
Before climbing the bell tower, I had used my divine power to heal it.
‘Was the wound deeper than I thought?’
I tried using my healing ability again.
But the pain only faded for a moment before returning, and the wound remained.
I panicked and used my divine power several times, but nothing worked.
If the wound wouldn’t heal, that could only mean one thing—
The cat that scratched me wasn’t just an ordinary cat.
It must have been a divine beast or a monster.
And if it was at least a mid-level creature, my power as a trainee priest wouldn’t be enough to heal it.
The pain, which had briefly disappeared, returned—this time, sharper than before.
Each time I used my healing power, the pain faded and then came back even worse.
This wasn’t the time to sit around reading a book.
If I didn’t heal myself soon, the monster’s poison would spread, and the pain would only grow stronger.
I needed to find someone with water-attribute divine power to cleanse the poison.
Thud, thud!
As soon as I stood up, I heard loud footsteps.
Someone was rushing up the stairs outside the storage room.
Ellie knew where I was.
But these footsteps were too rough to be hers.
‘Who is it?’
I swallowed nervously and stared at the door.
“Sonia, priest!”
It was Holy King Cassius.
“…Your Holiness?”
He was breathing heavily as he approached me.
He must have run at full speed to get here.
I instinctively hid my injured arm behind my back and stepped away from him.
Because his sudden arrival reminded me of a line from The Predators’ Territory:
“Lancelot, I want to smell your scent even more.”
The reason they tormented Lancelot was simple.
When he was overwhelmed with emotions or in pain, his Omega scent became stronger.
And if he bled, his pheromones would become so intoxicating that it drove Alphas mad.
I pressed my wound tightly, trying to keep the scent from escaping.
The sharp sting made me bite my lower lip.
But it was too late.
The Omega scent had already spread into the air.
Cassius took a deep breath.
His broad chest rose and fell.
Poor Lancelot, he was tortured by those bastards.
