I Became the Obsessive Male Lead’s Ex-Wife

CHAPTER 040: Jealousy, vigilance, and possessiveness

6 o’clock in the morning, Pervin’s office and bedroom. Pervin woke up in his bed early in the morning. He was the one who worked at the imperial palace until late at night and stayed vigil with his colleagues, the Marquis Celestine and others. He said that a new ambassador was coming from the Duchy of Verma, and as the head of the nobles, he had a lot of work to do. He paid close attention to the elaborate protocol, and only after seeing the dawn of dawn was he able to finish his work and return home. After washing himself and putting on a white robe, he gathered up the documents lying around in his office and lay down for a moment on the bed next to him. Dawn had already broken long ago, and the sun was casting dazzling light in all directions. Pervin buried himself in the warm blanket and groaned, making an indiscernible groaning sound. Out of habit, he grabbed something next to him and pulled him. But what was in his arms was only a white pillow, not the Irwen he wanted. He got out of bed nervously. A lot of matted platinum hair fell over his forehead. Pervin stroked his hair in annoyance.

“What a damn rule.”

It was a rough side that was never seen in front of Irwen. In fact, he wanted to spend every night with Irwen. However, the Duke of Carlisle denied his wish. For generations, his family has been a duke with precious hands. That’s why they always interfered with the head of the family’s bed to produce an heir.

“Too much sleep actually reduces productivity efficiency.”

“It would be better to only merge on designated days and save that energy on other days.”

“This is our unique secret that has been passed down for six generations. If you want to safely produce a successor, you would do well to follow our advice.”

Those damn old guys. For the sixth generation, they had tied themselves up like this under the pretext that this method would work. I just wanted to ignore them and spend the night with Irwen, and actually sneaked into her bedroom during the night. However, the constant surveillance by employees always bothered him. Especially since Irwen had been mistaken in thinking that she had failed to become pregnant not long ago, I was even more alert. Mrs. Tilly continued to feed Irwen foods that were good for her pregnancy, and she also advised Pervin to do so.

“No matter how hot-tempered my master is, if you care about my wife, please hold back your heat just a little bit.”

“We’re a couple. How about spending the night together?”

“Isn’t it important to do a lot? What is important is accuracy. Rather than just spraying it on and doing it all at once, it’s all right! Seeds that are planted correctly will grow well. A person who knows so much is not good at this…”

Madame Tilly clicked her tongue and started a two-hour long nag, so Pervin pretended to agree. No matter how many people around me tried to stop me, my desire to see Irwen was not suppressed. Ever since her relationship with Irwen improved, her body started to tingle if she didn’t see him even for a day.

-What’s wrong with loving my wife?

Pervin was ready to love his wife to the best of his ability, and she did so without hesitation. He put on his robe, turned on his heel, and headed to the corner of his room. When he pushed his bookshelf slightly, the space spun around. There was a boarded up door. When he opened the door, it led directly to Irwen’s bedroom. This was a secret passage used by previous family heads. It is said that some ancestors who loved Geumseul secretly used this place to hold events. Of course, this place was locked during the time of his father, who had a bad relationship with his mother. But Pervin was using this place every morning. And today again, he infiltrated Irwen’s bedroom. As always, Irwen was sound asleep. She slept a lot. Even though she says the beauty sleeps a lot, she sometimes sleeps so soundly that it makes her feel sad. She walked around the room and did not wake up even when Pervin pretended to know her. As is my usual sleeping habit, I just sleep leaning on the edge of the bed. Pervin seemed to be familiar with her and lifted her to her center, then lay down on her edge and looked at her. Luscious black hair brushed his elbow. It was a gentleness that made all his disappointment at Irwen’s lack of attention disappear. He unconsciously smiled faintly and stroked her hair. He hugged Irwen for a long time. He gently pulled her cheek and placed his lips on hers. Still she didn’t wake up. Pervin’s mouth began to speak slightly.

“Irwen.”

He called to her in her quiet voice. She made a noise and twisted her body. That was it for her. She was still asleep. Pervin felt aggrieved for some reason and stroked her cheek. What did she do last night that she fell asleep like this? Isn’t it unfair to her? I feel so sad for you like this. Is it just me who does this? He hugged Irwen even more as she writhed in agony. The blanket that had wrapped her around her rolled up. Finally, Irwen coughed and opened her eyes.

“Did you sleep well, Irwen?”

Irwen seemed surprised by his suddenly husky voice. She had really cute big rabbit-like eyes, so she tried to kiss her again. She was dumbfounded, and even though she was looking at him, she seemed in disbelief. He was saddened by the expression on his face as if asking why he was here. That time when Irwen gently pushed him, saying it tickled him. A flash of mischief flashed through his head, and in an instant, he deliberately fell to the floor. I had an immature thought that if I did this, I would draw attention to him. As expected, Irwen ran towards him in a huff, but it was unusual for her voice to gradually tremble and she was crying. It started out as a joke, but somehow it got more and more serious. Before Irwen could get really worried about her, Pervin hurried to reassure her by showing her his usual self. But I’m going crazy. Why is it so lovely to see my wife sobbing in his arms and saying she was worried about me? Her wife’s rebuke, telling her not to play pranks like this again, and the stern look at her are so pretty, it’s hard to die.

“Forgive me, Irwen.”

He lightly bit his wife’s soft lips. Her lips opened as if flower petals were blooming. As he invaded her with his hot breath, Irwen placed her weight on him as if her strength was gone. The hazy wall’s eyes were staring at him.

“To make up for the prank from earlier like this…”

“Will you accept my apology?”

“I promise I won’t play pranks like that again.”

“Okay, I won’t. So please forgive me.”

Pervin stroked her waist and then her hair. Her soft breath came and went between her overlapping lips. Irwen blinked her eyes and whispered breathlessly.

“How could I not accept this apology?”

“Why?”

“…I know I’m weak at things like this.”

“What are you weak against?”

As he pursued her persistently, pressing his lips against hers, Irwen bit his lips.

“Something like this, something like this.”

She was so ashamed of herself that she didn’t know what to do. She buries her face in his shoulder, her sips of breath caressing his skin. Pervin’s eyes widened beautifully at that hazy feeling. Her overwhelming happiness made his heart pound as if it would explode.

From morning she was in the best mood. He thought it was a hundred times wrong to make his wife cry, but confirming her sincerity made him feel good enough to make her heart sink. A voice kept ringing in my ear, saying, “How worried I was about you.” Those words made her feel like she was floating in the sky all day. He always greeted everyone with a smile on his face. She looked at him as if both the Emperor and the Marquis Celestine were dumbfounded.

“Did I eat something wrong?”

“I heard that herbs that induce laughter are popular these days. Maybe you ate that?”

“No. Haha!”

As Pervin passed them, the Emperor turned to face the Marquis Celestine and shook his head. Today is the day a new ambassador arrives from the Principality of Verma.

“Are you doing that knowing who is coming today?”

Marquis Celestine asked curiously.

“Who is coming today? Now that I think about it, why did you hide it from us until the end? The whole world will know who Verma’s ambassador is anyway.”

The emperor scratched his head in embarrassment. His pale face was full of worry.

“I wonder what Duke Lilias is thinking too…”

“Who are you that are so hesitant?”

“Count Rune is coming.”

Marquis Celestine’s eyes widened. At least he takes everything positively. But this time he too was overcome with worry.

“Two polar opposites have met.”

“You’re lucky if you don’t bleed.”

The emperor clicked his tongue as if he was worried.

* * *

Theresia’s flag and Verma’s flag decorated in the large hall. With the emperor sitting in the center, several people entered. Pervin, who was right next to the emperor, narrowed his eyes. Sibelom entered as the first successor. He wears a blue uniform and looks in a particularly good mood. Pervin, whose mood had been at its peak in the morning, quickly became moody. Sibelom, who had been exchanging greetings with several nobles, suddenly came to Pervin. The two shook hands vigorously. Sibelom grinned as he looked at Pervin’s cold face.

“What if I’m already in a bad mood?”

“Please don’t make assumptions.”

“I’m just saying this because I’m worried about you. Verma’s lines will really touch your heart, I want this.”

He hurriedly headed to his seat. Pervin’s body stiffened slightly. Why on earth would you say something like that? And soon after, the ambassador of the Principality of Verma arrived. Pervin’s face became even more stark with her paleness. Ibelin Rune, with a slim body and elegant air, knelt in front of the emperor.

“On behalf of His Highness Duke Lilias of Verma, I greet you from God, Ibelin Rune.”

“Welcome, Count Rune. As the new ambassador, I hope to contribute a lot to the relationship between our two countries.”

Pervin’s lips trembled. Because he rarely showed his emotions, Marquis Celestine next to him let out a small sigh. Ibelin exchanged greetings with Theresia’s nobles one by one. When I stood across from Pervin, he greeted me with a gentle smile.

“It’s been a while since I’ve seen you, Your Highness the Duke of Carlisle.”

“It’s been a while.”

Pervin held his hand with an arrogant look on his face. Marquis Celestine, who was next to him, shook his head as they could already feel their battle of wits.

* * *

After a brief greeting, everyone moved to the banquet hall. The emperor left the room as planned, leaving the reception of Count Rune in charge of Pervin. At this place where the orchestra played exciting music, Pervin treated Ibelin with sincerity. After a few meaningless words were exchanged with Ibelin, they soon fell into silence. Pervin tried to stay calm, but he couldn’t stop the bitter energy from escaping. Feeling like things weren’t going his way, he rubbed his face with his dry hands.

‘Please calm down, I can’t show myself like this in front of that man.’

Count Rune was Irwen’s etiquette teacher and someone for whom she had a crush. I don’t know if it was rational or if I just liked it as a human being. Ibelin glanced at Pervin and then gave him her words.

“I have one favor to ask you sir.”

“What is it?”

Pervin flashed his dark green eyes. The fact that Ibelin’s eyes were somehow filled with longing irritated him.

“I would like to ask permission to visit the Duke of Carlisle. I have something to tell you directly after seeing the Duchess.”

Ibelin added with a strange expression.

“Perhaps Miss Irwen… I think the Duchess would be happy to see me, her old teacher.”

Pervin looked at him disapprovingly. It had been like that for a long time, but this man was even more annoying because he knew about Irwen’s past that he didn’t know about.

“That’s too much of an expression.”

“I was officially the duchess’s tutor, so it would be more accurate to say that I am an old teacher.”

Ibelin pursed her bloodless lips. His eyes, with the corners of his eyes lowered, seemed to be filled with Irwen. That got on Pervin’s nerves. A feeling of jealousy was welling up in his heart. An unfamiliar feeling that he had forgotten for a long time. His pale green eyes were slowly becoming darker with jealousy and possessiveness. Ibelin seemed to see her old self in Pervin’s restrained anger. The 20-year-old man who came to woo Irwen every day, the young man who was wary of the men around Irwen, the man who guarded Irwen like a wild beast. In the end, it was Pervin Carlisle who took Irwen’s side. Feeling bitter, he touched Pervin one more time.

“Even the Lord will have to admit it. Our relationship is even older than the scriptures.”

“You still use your mouth carelessly.”

Pervin bared his teeth and growled. It was a raw emotion that had never been revealed in front of others. Ibelin narrowed his eyes as if to provoke him.

“Why, are you trying to get rid of me like before? But I am here as ambassador of the Principality of Verma, Lord Carlisle.”

“That doesn’t matter. You should know better that I will not stand by anyone who touches my wife.”

“Before I was your wife, I was…”

“My noble and beautiful woman, only I can worship her, only I can speak of her. So shut your mouth, right now.”

Pervin flashed his brilliant green eyes as if telling him not to say any more. It was the look of a wild beast that could cut off the opponent’s head in an instant.
