I Became a Mother of Three

Episode 1

 

At dawn before the sun rose.

The first to start moving was ‘Resen’ with bright blue wings.

Resen took the bedding of the nest where he had slept and neatly organized it with his mouth.

It was such neat organizing skills that it was hard to believe that a young dragon about three months old had done it.

Resen smiled, closed his eyes when he saw the bedding he had arranged, and moved his short legs to come down from the nest.

There was something he had to do right away. It was to wake up the red dragon ‘Lia’ in the nest next to him.

A small cry came from Resen’s mouth.

Then with his mouth, he gently lifted the blanket that had covered Lia.

As a cool breeze came into the cozy blanket, Lia’s closed eyes slowly opened.

“Ppppa!”

She muttered a small cry of frustration, but Lia soon got up and cleaned up her nest.

The two dragons, who had finished cleaning their nests on their own, simultaneously looked at the bed where the human woman was sleeping.

The biggest hurdle of the morning routine started. The two dragons crawled to the bed using their short legs.

Although they had wings on their back, they could only move them, and they never succeeded in actual flight.

“Kyaaa!”

“Haa!”

The two dragons, who had been resting for a moment while chirping under the bed, grabbed hold of the bedpost and began to climb upward.

The bedposts were full of claw marks thanks to the dragons climbing it so many times.

Following the uneven marks, both dragons were able to climb onto the bed without failure.

The human woman had bright yellow hair sticking out all the way to the pillow.

The color was so pretty that the dragons’ eyes sparkled when they saw the woman’s hair.

Lia couldn’t hold it back and even drooled. The two dragons ran combatively toward the human woman’s head.

In reality, it was just crawling a little fast than usual, but it was the highest speed that the two dragons could achieve.¹Cuuuute(⁠๑⁠♡⁠⌓⁠♡⁠๑⁠) The dragons stamped their feet on the hair of the human female whom they had arrived to.

The woman’s hair was shiny and soft. Even if they ran around like this, it didn’t get tangled or damaged.

What they learned after repeating the same action several times made the two dragons even more bold.

‘Erina’, the human female who was being attacked by dragons’ kicks, opened her eyes after realizing that she had failed to sleep until sunrise again today.

Don’t babies usually sleep a lot? However, these three-month-old baby dragons were unable to sleep until sunrise.

“Resen, Lia. No more, I’m awake.”

I was afraid that if I continued like this, the dragons would step on everything beyond my hair and even my face buried in the pillow.

Erina stood up and lifted the two dragons, one in each hand.

The two dragons said ‘Pwaaah!’ protesting slightly.

However, Erina’s hand was firm as she separated the dragons from her hair.

Erina carefully placed the removed dragons back on the bed and tied up her loose hair.

The long, loose hair was calmly organized and tickled Erina’s waist.

The dragons stamped their feet as the sparkles suddenly decreased.

It is a threat in its own way, but this complaint has been repeated several times already.

If you face it all the time, it wasn’t a big deal.

On the contrary, Erina, who found the complaint cute, turned her gaze and looked inside the blanket.

Now it was time for the last member of this house to wake up.

“Poi, wake up. The sun will start to rise in a little while, right?”

Erina’s clear voice rang out.

Then the blanket moved slightly a few times, and a dragon with purple wings poked its head out from inside.

“Maa?”

As soon as the purple dragon, ‘Poi’, got out of the blanket, he tried his best to climb onto Erina’s shoulder.

As it stretched out its short legs, its wings flapped ceaselessly.

Erina, who was looking at Poi, smiled slightly and lifted Poi up.

Poi grabbed Erina’s left shoulder.

Then, with a satisfied expression, he started chattering, ‘Ma, ma, ma, ah’.²My heart (⁠ ⁠˶⁠ ⁠❛⁠ ⁠ꁞ⁠ ⁠❛⁠ ⁠˶⁠ ⁠)

Resen and Lia, who understood the chattering, stamped their feet harder.

In the end, Erina was only able to get out of bed after placing Poi on her left shoulder, Resen on her right shoulder, and Lia on the top of her head.

It was when Erina was about to start her day’s work in earnest, feeling her shoulders and the top of her head becoming heavier.

Knock.

Someone knocked on the front door. “Please open the door.”

It was the voice of a young man.

Erina was surprised, but she didn’t make the mistake of answering hastily.

However, the man who knocked on the door seemed to have expected that much and spoke in an indifferent voice.

“I know you’re in there. I’ll just talk to you for a moment.”

Who exactly is it? It was clear that the man was not an ordinary person.

If it were an ordinary person, there was no way they would have found a house that wasn’t even on the map this early in the morning.

There was still a knocking sound at the door.

Erina looked at the door with an anxious expression.

The only changes in Erina’s daily life these days were the dragons pressing down on her upper body.

Then, maybe the dragons…… ?

After thinking briefly, Erina first hid the dragons under the blanket.

The dragons, who were instantly ripped off Erina’s shoulders and trapped inside the blanket, tried to get out.

“No, wait.”

It was Erina’s rare serious voice.

The dragons seemed to have sensed the unusual seriousness in that voice and held their breath.

The house where Erina lived was located in a deep forest, between large trees, so it was not easily visible.

Moreover, there was a path nearby that led to another place.

So if one got lost in the forest, there was no way they could get to Erina’s house.

Suppressing her heart that was pounding with fear, Erina approached the door.

The person who was knocking stopped moving as if he had noticed that Erina was approaching the door.

Erina gathered all the courage she had and the courage she didn’t have as she thought about her grandmother who passed away a few months ago. “Who are you?”

Before Erina could finish her question, the door opened.

To be clear, Erina never opened the door. The man simply opened the tightly locked door.

Huffing, Erina took a short breath as she looked at the half-open door.

What if I die like this? I was just filled with these thoughts at the moment.

However, Erina’s worries were in vain as the man who freely entered someone else’s house gave her a very polite greeting.

The man who knelt on one knee in front of Erina lowered his head so that only the top of his head was visible.

It was the first time Erina had received such an extreme greeting in her life.

“Ah, ugh!”

Maybe that’s why only short exclamations that couldn’t form words came out of Erina’s mouth.

Despite Erina’s poor reaction, the man stood up only after being polite.

When he got up, the house seemed to be crowded.

Of course, the house was not small enough to be crowded with one more person, but the man was very large.

Erina, who had been out of her mind from fear and confusion, finally raised her head.

Even so, I had to lift my head for a long time to make eye contact with the man.

He had silver-white, shiny hair that was wavy and slightly covered the man’s forehead, and the high bridge of his nose and red lips were also strikingly set on his pale face.

In particular, the man’s eyes were so blue and cold that they felt like the clear autumn sky.

Erina was stunned with her mouth open as she saw his mysterious appearance for the first time.

“You have my nephews with you, right? The three dragons.”

The man, who calmly revealed that he was the dragons’ uncle, immediately pointed to Erina’s bed with his finger.To be exact, he pointed at Resen, Lia, and Poi that Erina hid under the blanket.

Erina had a basket made of woven vines slung over her shoulder. Since it rained all weekend, it was clear that the mushrooms were growing well.

Maybe I could find mushrooms that could be sold at a high price. The corners of Erina’s lips naturally turned up as she already felt like her pockets were getting bigger.

“I’ll be back!”

I left a brave greeting to the empty house and headed out the door.

It’s not exactly a family business, but Erina made a living by collecting and selling mushrooms, just like her late grandmother.

Thanks to having climbed mountains with my grandmother since I was young, I was now able to easily climb up and down unfamiliar mountain ridges on my own.

It was the season when many mushrooms were coming out.

I wes lucky with the weather and there was a lot of rain, so there was no better day for mushroom picking than today.

As Erina expected, mushrooms were growing here and there.

When she was in the middle of putting high-quality mushrooms into a basket while humming a tune.

“Uh?”

She saw three eggs lying in a small gap between a large tree and a rock.

Erina raised her head and looked up at the tree.

I searched to see if there was a new nest nearby, but I couldn’t find one anywhere in the tall tree.

So, that means that the eggs didn’t fall from the tree? Oh, by the way, if they had fallen from that tree, they all would have been broken.

Erina nodded while answering herself.

“What kind of eggs are these?”

Erina, squatting in front of the three eggs and tilted her head.

They looked completely different from anything I had seen while walking through the forest so far.

They each were more than twice the size of an egg and was a mixture of blue and white.

It was also interesting that there was a long band pattern that seemed to surround the eggs.

Erina quickly folded her fingers that were moving towards the egg. There could be a mother nearby.

One had to be careful because the mother could break the egg if someone touched it for no reason.

Erina continued walking, thinking that if the eggs were still there when she came again next time, she would take them with her.
