“Isn’t it a nice day to go out?”
“It’s cloudy and overcast.”
“The wind is cool.”
“It’s so cold that my skin hurts.”
“And the air is like this…”
“The air inside the carriage is stuffy, because of someone.”
Allegro looked at her with a broad smile, but I could also tell that he was starting to get annoyed. The corners of his lips were twitching slightly.
It was none of her business whether he was upset or not. Her mood was worse than that right now. It was good that the Blonde family sent a message saying that they would allow a visit in half a day, so they set off.
The fact that she was going with Allegro was disappointing. She had originally planned to go with the duke, but why would the emperor suddenly call him to the palace? In addition, Sylvester, who had a high chance of going with me, was away for a while because of something the Duke had ordered him to do. So naturally, the next person who was suitable to be her escort was the mage.
Of course, she had four escorts, but she wasn’t completely safe from external factors. That’s why that guy and she suddenly ended up going out together.
She sighed inwardly and just hoped to get to the Count’s mansion where Ladiana would be as soon as possible. As she was responding to Allegro’s pointless words, they arrived at the Blonde manor mansion before we knew it.
The carriage passed through the entrance and stopped in front of the main building of the mansion. The door opened, and as soon as they got out of the carriage, the servant who had been waiting in advance approached them.
“Thank you for coming. Lady Elia, but the person behind you is…”
The attendant nodded to Allegro, who had gotten off with her. His face must have looked unfamiliar since he had magically changed his appearance.
“Ah. He’s one of my escort knights. If it’s not rude, I’d like to keep him with me, is that okay?”
“Just one is fine.”
Since she couldn’t bring all my escort knights when visiting someone else’s house, she decided to travel with just one. Naturally, the one chosen was Allegro. After all, the strongest one was currently the Mage.
She followed the attendant into the mansion. A gloomy atmosphere flowed throughout the hallway, almost like a funeral. What would happen if Ladiana didn’t wake up like this?
It’s not like there’s any way to solve it even if she went. She continued to follow the attendant with a slightly worried heart.
“Lady Ladiana is in this room.”
As the servant opened the door, a strong smell of herbs wafted out. She must have done all sorts of things since she collapsed, and she must have been smoking herbs.
She went inside, sweeping away the herb smoke with her hand. However, unlike her who stepped inside, Allegro did not cross the line.
“Aren’t you coming in?”
“I’ll wait here.”
Seeing Allegro covering his nose with his hand, she guessed that he hated the smell of herbs. It seemed like it was just a strong smell, but it was unusual. She shrugged her shoulders and followed the servant into the room. The room was filled with herb smoke, but the surroundings were hazy as if covered in fog.
“The young lady is lying inside that curtain.”
The servant pointed to a large bed with a long curtain. She looked at it for a moment and then said to the servant.
“If it’s not rude, could you step out for a moment? I want to see the young lady quietly.”
“Yes, I understand.”
The servant surprisingly left the room without saying much. She walked to the bed and carefully pulled back the curtain. Ladiana was lying unconscious on the bed. Her face was pale and haggard, perhaps because she hadn’t woken up for several days.
You could tell just by looking at her that she was sick.
She carefully reached out and touched Ladiana’s cheek. Fortunately, she was still warm. She examined her body closely just in case, but she didn’t find anything particularly strange. As she had felt earlier, other than her haggard face, there really wasn’t much of a difference.
If that didn’t work out, should she ask the tower guard outside to check on Ladiana’s condition? While she was thinking about this and that, she felt that Ladiana’s shadow was a little strange. It was clear that a shadow had been cast, but the shape was too artificial. So, the shape and the color were both awkward.
If someone heard this, they might think it was a funny story, but that’s how I saw it. The shadows never felt natural. Just in case, she compared her shadow on the floor with Ladiana’s shadow several times.
As expected, they felt subtly different.
She couldn’t shake the feeling that it was as if the shadows were artificially modeled. She was surprised at herself for feeling such a subtle difference. She kept thinking about it, but after she became possessed, her senses were so sensitive that they reached the peak.
There was never a single time when I thought something was strange was nothing. That’s why she didn’t feel like an ordinary person.
She let out a small sigh and reached out to Ladiana’s shadow on the bed. And at that moment, pain shot up into her fingertips.
“Ha!”
It wasn’t a pain she could bear, so she clenched her fist and closed her eyes tightly. Fortunately, the pain didn’t last long. After holding on for a while, the pain gradually began to go away.
“…What the heck.”
She let out a small breath and slowly moved her tingling fingertips. At that moment, she found some kind of trace on the inside of her wrist.
“This is…”
That was also the same stain engraved near her heart.
She just reached out to Ladiana’s shadow, but what the heck was this… Her head started spinning in confusion.
“…Um.”
At that moment, a small moan leaked out from between Ladiana’s parted lips.
She lowered her gaze and was slightly surprised. It was because she had clearly caught movement in Ladiana’s fingertips, which had not moved at all until just a moment ago.
That was after she touched Ladiana’s shadow. Finally, Ladiana opened her eyes completely and slowly called her name with hazy eyes.
“…Elia… Ah, the young lady…?”
She was about to say something when she suddenly turned around at the open window.
“I’m sorry. It’s time for the young lady to take her medicine, so for a moment…”
The servant who was speaking hurriedly while holding the box widened his eyes when he saw the scene in the room.
“Lady, Lady Ladiana has woken up, hurry, call a doctor…!”
At that moment, the very surprised servant ran out.
* * *
The doctor who was closely examining Ladiana, who was holding her hand tightly, asked her.
“So you’re saying that you suddenly woke up in the middle of the night?”
“Yes. While I was looking at the young lady for a moment, I heard a faint groan. I watched her just in case, and the young lady opened her eyes.”
This was really difficult because she didn’t know the cause. She didn’t even know why she woke up.
The doctor frowned with a face that said he had no idea.
Ladiana seemed to realize that she had just gotten up after collapsing, and she was busy touching her hand.
“You really don’t have any pain, Ladiana?”
“Yes. I just feel a little tired and lethargic.”
Ladiana, who was smiling, continued to touch her hand persistently. The doctor, who had been quietly watching the scene, looked at her with strange eyes. It was as if he knew why Ladiana was acting like that toward her.
As expected, the doctor knew that Ladiana was pretty and couldn’t help it.
Now, she was looking at her gently caressing her cheek instead of her hand.
The window suddenly opened and a middle-aged man and a middle-aged woman, who she had never seen before but had a familiar face, entered the room.
She knew it as soon as she saw them.
The middle-aged man was Ladiana’s father, Count ‘Lugid Blonde’, and the middle-aged woman was her mother, Countess ‘Kersha Blonde’.
“Ladiana, are you okay?”
“My daughter! Are you okay? Are you in any pain? Huh??”
The count grabbed the doctor’s wall and started asking him what happened. Even though the doctor told him to calm down, the count was very excited and kept questioning him.
The countess was holding Ladiana tightly with tears streaming down her face and kept talking nonstop.
She understood that they were worried because Ladiana couldn’t wake up, but this was just too much. Still, was it fortunate that she was free from Ladiana’s touch?
She let out a small sigh of relief and tried to quietly leave the room when she heard that.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot that the young lady was here when I heard that Ladiana had woken up. So the young lady’s name is Elia Rotten… Oh, what?”
She turned when she heard the countess’ voice from behind her. She saw the countess’s eyes wide open with her mouth slightly covered. With an expression that seemed as if she couldn’t believe it, why was she looking at her like that?
She tilted her head wondering what it was, and she heard a small exclamation. Wait, an exclamation? No way. No way?
“I heard it from Ladiana, but how can you really be so angelic… Huh?”
The countess came to her in the blink of an eye, grabbed her hand tightly, and said that with a blush.
* * *
She looked back and forth between Ladiana, who was holding her right hand, and Countess Kersha, who was holding her left hand. How did it end up like this?
After seeing the countess, she realized why Ladiana couldn’t stand pretty things. She inherited the countess’s tastes.
While she was secretly sighing, Count Lugid said with an awkward smile.
“Ladiana is so much like you that she can’t leave pretty people or things alone. So, young lady, please understand.”
“Honey, you can’t use your legs. Speak more politely.”
Countess Kersha glanced at Count Lugid. Then Count Lugid coughed and looked away. It seems that Count Lugid was being held captive by Countess Kersha. Seeing that she couldn’t say anything, she stared at Ladiana, who was still persistently touching her hand, and said.
“Lady Ladiana, is it okay to sit like this? Wouldn’t it be better to lie down and rest a little longer?”
“It’s okay. I have enough energy to sit now. Don’t worry.”
Ladiana smiled brightly. She seemed happy that she had told her what she was worried about her.
“Not only is your face pretty, but your heart is also so beautiful.”
Countess Kersha stared at her with a look of ecstasy.
“Thank you. You, Countess, are so beautiful.”
Countess Kersha smiled brightly at her answer.
“Oh, really?”
“Yes. You are as elegant as a swan.”
“The young lady is as cute as a canary, isn’t she, Ladiana?”
“Yes, that’s right. Whenever I saw Lady Elia, I thought she was like a yellow canary.”
She just smiled brightly at the compliments coming from both sides and endured the awkward situation. It was as if there were two Ladianas on either side, and she was confused.
