“Anyway, thank you for letting me know. It must have been a difficult question.”
“No. I was just doing the obvious thing, but it was something Elia needed to know anyway, sooner or later.”
She blinked slightly at the meaningful words. Because those words sounded quite strange. Soon Rubart smiled and said.
“I think it’s almost time for Master to wake up. Shouldn’t you go back?”
“Oh, I see. Then I’ll just leave. Lubart.”
She immediately got up and left the office. As soon as she came out, she tilted her head slightly at the sight of Sarah.
“Have you been waiting for me?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Why?”
“The master said he would be down at the dining hall first and told me to come for you.”
“It’s still early and he already got up and went to the dining hall?”
“Yes, it is.”
She headed straight to the dining hall. It wasn’t far from here anyway, so it was quick. It didn’t take her too much time to arrive at the dining hall and go inside. As soon as she entered, she paused at the sight she saw. She didn’t know what happened in the short time she was gone, but Delian and Allegro were laughing and chatting happily with each other.
“Oh, is Elia here?”
“Yeah, but you’re with Lian?”
“When I woke up earlier, I didn’t see Elia by my side. So I was waiting for her to come, and then the Lord of the Tower came to my room.”
“He came directly to your room?”
“Yes.”
After seeing the child nodding his head, she moved her gaze towards Allegro.
“I was a little bored, so I went to the master’s room to talk.”
“So?”
“While I was talking with him, I suddenly heard a growling sound from somewhere. He seemed hungry, so I suggested that we go down to the dining hall first.”
Now she understood roughly what happened. But even if that were the case, there wouldn’t be anything worth digging up from the child. Still, did he visit just in case? Since the child was the one who has been with her the longest, she wanted to know something about him.
While she was thinking about this and that, she suddenly heard a knock on the door.
“Yes. Come in.”
The child’s words opened a door, and Sarah came in through the gap.
“The Duke is expected to return sometime this evening. He said the inspection ended earlier than expected.” she said, coming straight towards them.
“Is it true?”
“Really?”
The child and she asked at the same time.
“Yes. It’s still planned, but he said he’ll arrive by evening.”
“Okay, I get it.”
“Thank you for letting me know.”
“No. Then I’ll just leave.”
After hearing that the Duke was coming a little earlier than originally scheduled, she started to feel excited. For some reason, she felt like she could enjoy breakfast this morning.
As she unconsciously smiled and lifted the silverware, she heard Allegro’s voice.
“It’s a pity that the Duke came earlier than expected. I wanted to stay at the mansion a little longer.”
He made a blatantly regretful expression. And while looking at her intently.
Anyway, he’s a really crappy person. He shook his head and put a piece of steak in his mouth and chewed it.
“Elia, aren’t you happy that father is coming early? You look excited.”
“Cluck, cluck!”
The child’s words suddenly caught her attention.
“Ouch, Elia! Are you okay?”
She started coughing non-stop, as if a piece of meat had gotten stuck in her esophagus. The child was surprised and handed her a cup filled with water.
She quickly got the cup, drank some water, and took several deep breaths before she finally stopped coughing.
‘…Ugh, I lived and died.’
She sighed, feeling completely drained of energy.
“Are you okay now?”
“Yeah, it’s okay. Thanks for the water.”
“I was worried because I thought something big would happen.”
“It’s really okay, so please rest assured and finish your meal.”
“Yes.”
She ended up getting caught because she heard something she never expected… She felt sorry for herself. For some reason, she lost her appetite and put down the dishes.
“Aren’t you going to eat any more?”
“Yeah. I’m not really hungry.”
“Then you can’t do that…”
The child gently squeezed her wrist while eating. Then she smoothed it out very carefully.
“Look at this. Elia is so skinny. Her wrists are too thin.”
“You are right, Master. I think it would be better for her to eat more food.”
Suddenly, the two joined forces to attack, and she was dumbfounded.
“Can’t you just eat a little more?”
Her heart sank as the child looked up, blinking his big eyes. It was as if she was seeing a baby rabbit crying for its mother rabbit.
“Okay. Then I will eat a little more.”
“Yes, then let’s do it.”
The child, smiling brightly, offered her food directly to her mouth. She opened her mouth and took the food the child gave her. After eating, she also offered food to the child. While she was having a good meal with her child, she felt eyes on her from somewhere. She couldn’t tell who it was. Of course Allegro must be human.
She spent the meal time eating the food the child gave her, ignoring the steady stares she felt.

As she spent the afternoon at the training center with the child, the sun began to set. It won’t be long before he arrived. As she looked at the sunset sky, she asked Miriel.
“Can we please stop now and rest?”
“I was already planning to finish early today.
“His Excellency will be here in a little while, right?”
“Yes. Then I’ll just leave.”
She walked over to the child who was resting after finishing his training class.
“Lian, shall we go back now?”
“Is it time for father to come now?”
“Yes. I thought I should wash and wait before the Duke comes.”
The child nodded and walked over to Sylvester, who was cleaning up the swelling in the corner, and said.
“Master, I’ll go back now.”
“Oh, that’s right, it will be time for His Excellency to arrive in a little while. Then, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
The child who returned to me held out his hand.
“Elia, let’s go.”
“Huh.”
They quickly left the training ground while holding hands. After washing up in the bathroom, she was almost finished getting ready when she heard the sound of a minute tapping.
“Are you Lian?”
[Yes. Elia, are you ready?]
“Yes. I’m done. You can come in.”
The child with a bright face, probably due to washing, opened the door and came in.
“Father is almost home.”
“Then should we go ahead and wait at the front gate? Let’s meet the Duke.”
“Yes, I like it.”
The child nodded, grabbed her hand, and led her outside.
They arrived at the front gate in an instant. The carriage the Duke was riding in was not yet visible. It was time to wait a little longer.
The faint sound of horses’ hooves began to be heard in the distance.
“Wow! I guess he is here, Elia.”
The child shouted in an excited voice. She nodded and stared intently beyond the square. After waiting a little longer, she saw several carriages coming here.
After a while, the carriage that passed through the shrine came to a halt. But somehow it was a little strange. Apparently, there were three carriages when we left, but now with the arrival of the carriages, two more carriages have been added, bringing the number to five.
What? While she was tilting her head, the carriage compartment in front opened. The Duke, who had not been seen for several days, had finally appeared.
The child and she ran to the Duke at the same time as if they had been waiting. The Duke, who saw her and the child, quietly watched them. The expression on his face looked very confident, but when she looked closely, he seemed surprised and the corners of his mouth were quite relaxed.
“Did you have a good time, father?”
“Yes.”
The Duke’s gaze, which had been answering the child’s words, soon turned to her.
“Did you arrive safely?”
“Of course.”
She looked at the Duke, who answered immediately, and then shifted her gaze to the carriage behind her.
“But, Duke. Last time you left, weren’t there three carriages?”
“Why are you asking that?”
“I was just curious.”
“It’s nothing you need to worry about.”
For some reason, she felt slightly indignant at the artificially stiff tone of speech. What? It felt a little unnatural,
“Anyway, let’s go back to the room. There’s still something left to check.”
After saying that, the Duke suddenly turned around and said something to the waiting knights. Then the knights began to move in unison. They opened the compartments of the two wagons parked at the back and began taking out their luggage one by one.
She was slightly surprised when she saw the luggage gradually piling up like a mountain. What was all that? As she was quietly looking at it, she couldn’t hold back her curiosity and walked over to the Duke.
“Duke, why are there so many boxes?”
“There is such a thing…”
The Duke answered vaguely and watched with sharp eyes the luggage the knights were carrying. It looked like it contained a very valuable treasure, so for a moment she wondered if it had been mined for magic stones. But then she quickly gave up that thought.
This was at a time when the luggage the knights were taking out was all of different sizes and even packaged with great care. As she quietly watched the knights organizing their luggage, she felt their eyes on her. It was the Duke.
“I would have told you to just go in now.”
“Oh, yes, just like that. See you later.”
She took the child and headed straight to the mansion. Then, her curiosity piqued again and she looked back briefly. The Duke was watching the knights carry their luggage without blinking an eye. It’s as if they won’t leave it alone if even the slightest thing was dropped or broken. What on earth was going on like that?
She tilted her head and entered the mansion with the child.
* * *
That night. Just as the child was fast asleep, a knocking sound was heard from outside. It was none other than Sarah.
[Ellia. The Duke asks to see you for a moment.]
“Yes. Let’s go.”
She was already waiting without sleep, wondering when he would call her. When she got out, she saw Sarah standing in front of her.
“Where should I go?”
“The Duke is currently in his office.”
She headed straight to the office. When she went inside, she saw the Duke sitting at his desk looking at documents.
“Sit over there.”
The Duke raised his head and glanced toward the sofa. As she went over and sat down, the Duke walked over and sat down across from her.
“Did you call me because you went on an inspection trip?”
“Yes.”
“You found the mine, right?”
The Duke stared at her for a moment and didn’t say anything more, but he had something in his arms. He took it out and held it out. It was a small box.
“What is this?”
“Open it.”
When she opened the box, there was a brilliant translucent stone mixed with various colors inside. It was definitely a magic stone.
“Have you been mining there?”
“Yes, it is a magic stone mined from a mine discovered in Regarden.”
As expected, he found it safely.
“How many magic stones were there?”
The book only said that a mine had been discovered, so she had no idea how much mining would be done.
“It’s enormous. It’s twice as big as the 3rd mine. No, it might be bigger. I’ll have to take a closer look inside the mine.”
“That’s even better. Anyway, I’m glad you found it safely. By the way, did anything happen during your inspection?”
“It’s no big deal…”
He would have said nothing happened there, but looking at the strange way he trailed off, she guessed something must have happened.
“Something happened, right?”
“There was an attack during the inspection.”
She was startled by those words.
“An attack? During the inspection?”
“Yes.”
“Are you hurt anywhere?”
She was well aware of the Duke’s sword skills, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t worried.
“Yeah, not at all.”
She internally breathed a sigh of relief at those words.
“Did you find out who inquired from you?”
“No, just before I got the confession, my whole body fell apart, as if I had been cursed.”
The Duke spoke casually and took something out of his chest again. It was none other than the azure jewel she gave him. But unlike then, some parts of the jewel had faded to gray.
“Why did the color change like this?”
“The guys who attacked this time used a strange trick.”
“A strange trick?”
“He suddenly threw something that looked like marble on the floor, and black smoke rose from there.”
