After dinner, she headed to the drawing room to meet Allegro. Allegro had come inside first. When he saw her, he smiled and motioned for her to take a seat. She didn’t like the way the house was treated as if it were his own, but she didn’t show it and sat down across from him.
“But you’re not alone?”
Allegro looked towards Richard and Jade who followed her in. She shrugged her shoulders and answered casually.
“Those two people are like me, so I think it’s safe to think of them as just the two of us.”
“Hmm, is that so?”
“Can you tell me your business first?”
First of all, there was a contractual relationship with the Duke, and even though he was cooperative at the moment, that person was not completely trustworthy. So, she decided that there would be no benefit from having a long conversation.
“It’s not that big of a story. I just wanted to have a leisurely conversation and asked to have some tea.”
After saying that, Allegro waved his finger lightly. Two steaming teacups appeared on the table. Allegro lifted the teacup in front of him and took a sip of tea.
“I heard that Lady Elia was the first to discover the barrier in the forest. Is that correct?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“How did you find it?”
She narrowed her eyes slightly.
“I’m not sure what you’re asking. Have you already heard everything?”
“Of course I heard it. I heard that ‘Rex’, the horse I improved through my own magic research, suddenly ran with the young lady on his back.”
“It was completely by chance that I found a barrier in the forest. That’s where Rex took me.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes. I have no idea why Rex took me there.”
“Hmm…”
Allegro slowly smoothed his chin.
“Isn’t there something else you want to do? Please tell me that.”
“If I tell you, will you listen?”
“No. I will not just listen. I will tell the Duke everything.”
“Oh my, that’s a pity.”
It was just words, his face didn’t look sad at all.
“Are you sure you don’t intend to thoroughly check the lady’s physical condition from me?”
“I would have already declined it before.”
“Yes. I know. But, don’t you know yourself that it would be better for you?”
“If you know your body well, it will be easier to deal with anything that happens later.”
It was just as Allegro said. However, she was quite reluctant to get help from that man to confirm it. She didn’t know what he might do while examining her physical condition, and the thought of the author finding out more about her physical condition was a bit unpleasant.
She was anxious because she already had guesses about various things. She couldn’t be sure what would happen if the author found out that her existence had anything to do with God.
“There’s no problem as it is right now. So it’s okay.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes. I repeat, it’s okay.”
“It’s a shame.”
Allegro shrugged his shoulders and took a sip of his tea.
“If you’re done talking, can we just leave?”
He just sipped his tea without answering. However, when she got up from her seat, she interpreted it to mean that it was good.
“By the way, this is the hunting competition that was held this time. I heard that something bad happened. Is that true?”
“Yes. Not long after the hunt began, His Majesty was attacked.”
“His Excellency the Duke saved your Majesty like that?”
“Yes. By the way.”
Allegro’s eyes narrowed ever so slightly.
“He said that His Majesty would give His Excellency a fiefdom as additional compensation, and he said that His Excellency wanted the fiefdom of ‘Regarden’. Is that correct?”
“Yes.”
Then Allegro smiled unexpectedly and touched the corners of his mouth.
“Is there any problem?”
“No, there is none.”
If there wasn’t one, that itself is suspicious, so it must be an intention to scare her.
She said with a calm face.
“Then can I just leave?”
“Yes. Please do so.”
It was time to pass by Allegro and head to her room.
“Would you like to have tea with me tomorrow too?”
She thought about the question for a moment. Since he hadn’t really figured anything out from her yet, was he thinking of taking a closer look at the opportunity?
“If I have time.”
Allegro quietly smiled at her answer, rolling his eyes.
* * *
That night. For some reason, Delian kept his eyes open even though it was past his time to sleep. She looked at the child happily rolling around in bed and asked:
“Can’t you sleep because of work earlier?”
“Yes. I keep thinking about it.”
The smiling child rested his face on her lap.
“You know, Elia.”
“Huh.”
“I’m sure father will like it, right?”
“Of course.”
She thought he might have been more worried than that, but she didn’t bother to say it out loud.
“Lian, if you don’t learn strong powers properly, they can become dangerous later on. So learn them well, okay?”
“Yes, I know. I will practice harder from now on.”
“Okay.”
She smiled and stroked the child’s head.
“Then shall we sleep now?”
“I’m just not sleepy.”
“Um, then shall I sing a song?”
“A song?”
“Yes. A lullaby.”
“Great”
She took a moment to steady her voice and then quietly began to sing her song. The child, who had been listening quietly, slowly closed his eyes. As she sang a little longer, she could hear his even breathing.
Noticing that Delian had fallen asleep, she carefully pulled her knees out. She laid the child down on the bed and she laid down next to him as well. She immediately closed her eyes, but she could hardly sleep. After tossing and turning for a while, she finally got up.
“Maybe it’s the wind or something.”
At this time of night, she didn’t want to go out to the garden, so she headed out to the balcony. As soon as she went out, a cool breeze swept over her entire body.
“It’s a little cold.”
Leaning her body against the railing, she quietly took in the dark landscape of the garden below her. At that time, she heard a faint sound from somewhere. She didn’t know what it means, but it was a bit annoying.
What? She craned her head to take a closer look below the balcony. At first it was difficult to see because it was dark, but then a vague outline was revealed. She soon realized that the identity of the outline was Allegro, the master of the magic tower. He was looking up at the sky in the garden.
For a walk, it was strange to just stand still and look up at the sky. She looked up at the sky to see if there was anything, but she didn’t see anything special.
At that time, Allegro’s head turned towards her standing on the balcony. As if he knew she was here from the beginning.
At that time, Allegro slowly raised his hand and pointed somewhere. Somewhere there was the sky, but she couldn’t tell what he was pointing to. No matter where she looked, there were only stars floating around.
‘What are you talking about?’
When she asked with her mouth, he smiled and quickly moved next to her. For a moment, she was startled and took a step back. It’s a surprise.
“Today, I went around the mansion and set up partial barriers. Now, for the last time, I put up a large barrier around the entire house, and I was checking to see if it worked.”
“A barrier?”
“Because that’s one of the reasons I’m here.”
So that’s why he was wandering around earlier. She shook her head and asked.
“Did the Duke request it?”
“Yes. There was a barrier in place before. However, there were some cracks and some gaps were visible, so a new barrier was installed.”
“Then I guess the barrier struck this time is much stronger than before?”
“I guess so. I used dozens of magic stones.”
“Is it okay to abuse magic stones like that?”
“Isn’t there a mine that the Duke owns? There is no need to get angry.”
“Well, that’s true.”
“Still, it would be better not to overuse it. The amount of magic stones mined in the mines owned by His Excellency is also gradually decreasing.”
There’s something about the flow of the story that made her feel uncomfortable. Could it be that she got caught up in this man?
“But it’s not like we’ve run out of them at all, right? I know the other two mines are still in good condition.”
At that time, Allegro’s eyes changed subtly.
“Are you sure you don’t know anything about the ‘Regarden’ territory?”
“You already know.”
“Did you say it was because of the war that would break out this time? It is a sufficiently understandable reason.”
She narrowed her eyes.
Why did he keep trying to find out about Regarden territory? Did he know if there was a magic stone mine hidden there? But it didn’t look like that… If Allegro had known that fact, he would not have shown such a calm state. Perhaps, he seemed to suspect that the Duke did not receive the territory of ‘Regarden’ solely for the sake of war.
She was just about to say something to Allegro, who was looking at her silently.
Sweet.
Suddenly, the closed balcony opened and the child’s face popped out.
“Elia, what are you doing there?”
It seemed as if he had just woken up, as his eyes were filled with sleep.
“Oh, just talking for a moment…”
He looked to the side of her and suddenly closed his mouth. This was because Allegro, who was clearly supposed to be standing there, was not visible.
“Talking?”
“No, I was just getting some air. It’s cold. Come on in and sleep.”
“Can’t we sleep together?”
“Okay, let’s go in and sleep together.”
“Hehe.”
She went inside with the cute smiling child. As she lay down on the bed, the child snuggled into her arms as if he had been waiting for her. After a while, even breathing was heard.
She noticed that the child had fallen asleep and sat still, lost in thought. What kind of trick did that person have that keeps approaching her? Of course, she knew that the reason he came to the mansion was because the Duke requested it. She already knew from the Duke that he couldn’t do anything foolish here, but…
“Ugh, I don’t know.”
If she thought about it alone, what kind of answer would she come up with? Let’s just sleep.
She closed her eyes tightly and tried to sleep. Unlike before, fortunately, the beasts flocked in easily. As her consciousness faded, the darkness came.
* * *
It had been quite a while since she stood in this space. She looked around in a calm state. She wondered when the place would change in a space without flattery.
Finally, the space began to take on different colors. It was also a moment she had been waiting for. The place that soon completely changed was an unexpected place. It was a hallway in the Duke’s mansion where the portrait she visited last time was hanging.
‘Why is it here?’
She looked around and walked slowly. She knew it was a dream, but it was really elaborate every time she saw it. If you weren’t aware that it was a dream, the place was so similar to reality that you could have mistaken it for reality.
While she was walking like that, she paused for a moment. It was because she had already entered the dark hallway. If it had been real, it would have been an off-limits area, so they wouldn’t have been able to enter in the first place. But since it’s a dream, it didn’t matter anyway. She stared at the person whose outline she could only see vaguely.
She didn’t know if the scene inside was the same as reality or not. However, the urge to check continued to grow. For some reason, she felt like she shouldn’t just pass by.
Soon she moved her legs. She arrived at the door in an instant and grabbed the handle of the door that was closed tightly.
