I Attacked Because I Was Afraid Of Death

Strong Intuition

Chapter 6: Strong Intuition

Chi Xin: …I… I’ll kill…

This dog system is going to drive her crazy.

As anger boiled in her heart, the look on her face became even more terrifying. Anyone who met her gaze after that didn’t dare to continue their previous conversation and instead lowered their heads.

The appearance of the high-level zombie was a fact, and everyone had experienced its power first-hand. However, before Chi Xin went out, no one had noticed that there was such a terrifying thing hidden next to their base.

Chi Xin’s anger might also stem from her frustration at the insensitivity of the people within the walls.

Everyone consciously found an explanation for Chi Xin’s changes, and those who had been shouting earlier fell silent.

Cao Yan, after all, was in charge of the base. He decided to put aside past grievances first. He understood that the most important thing was to ensure the survival of the remaining people.

He asked Chi Xin, “So, is there any way to detect that… more powerful thing?”

Chi Xin replied with annoyance, “No.”

Someone in the crowd chimed in, “You’re lying. How did you know there was a high-level zombie? Are you going to go out to find it?”

Initially, he took advantage of being hidden within the crowd, thinking that he could speak at will without anyone noticing him. However, Chi Xin’s sharp gaze, seemingly casual, turned into a piercing glare directed at the person who spoke.

“A strong person’s intuition, why, do you have it too?”

She didn’t know who said it, but the provocation in their words was automatically categorized by the system as hostile intent. His position, in Chi Xin’s perspective, was like a huge target.

That person didn’t expect her to be so sharp. He lowered his head awkwardly and didn’t dare to speak further.

“Wait a minute, something’s not right.” Another young man who had been by Cao Yan’s side the whole time frowned. “What kind of person is Chi Xin? Everyone in the base knows that in the weeks since you arrived, you didn’t show any real skills. Since you’re so powerful, why didn’t you use your abilities and only showed it until today?”

The last sentence was asked directly straight at Chi Xin, and his defiant face was full of hostility. It was evident that he had held a grudge against Chi Xin for a long time.

Chi Xin looked at him, remembering that he was Cao Yan’s cousin or something like that. She forgot his name, but she remembered that he had once lusted after the original host’s beauty. However, Chi Xin managed to obtain many benefits from him without giving in to his advances.

Leaving aside everything else, the original host’s ability to get benefits without giving anything in return was truly exceptional.

Chi Xin labeled this young man as “cannon fodder” and responded without any hesitation, “When and why I choose to reveal my abilities is none of your business. What’s it to you? By the way, are you regretting not having been beaten up?”

With that statement, Cao Qing’s face turned green instantly.

His pursuit of Chi Xin had once been a hot topic, and the fact that he had been strung along by her wasn’t a well-kept secret. Now, his remarks were clearly meant as revenge against Chi Xin, but he unexpectedly ended up embarrassing himself.

With the example of Chi Xin kicking away the high-level zombie head fresh in everyone’s minds, who would dare to challenge her to a fight now?

Cao Qing didn’t need to look around to feel the mocking gazes aimed at him, and his face grew even more unsightly.

Chi Xin easily suppressed the provocateur’s voice.

Seeing Chi Xin’s indifferent expression surrounded by the soldiers, Jing Xiubai furrowed his brows slightly.

Chi Xin didn’t directly answer Cao Qing’s question. The situation was not that simple.

Chi Xin and Jiang Congyun were both freshmen, but her achievements were well-known even to Jing Xiubai and Yu Xiang, who were seniors. Despite her seemingly innocent appearance, her actions upon entering Base L, where she quickly found multiple benefactors, confirmed what they had heard before. Although she had portrayed herself as a helpless white lotus, her actions seemed to prove that the previous rumors were not groundless.

However, the Chi Xin they saw today is cold, and powerful, and every word she spoke seemed to strike at the heart. There was no trace of the delicate white lotus she had once pretended to be.

Can a person really maintain such a facade for so long?

Jing Xiubai’s gaze was too sharp, and it was easily caught by Chi Xin. She noticed his probing look and couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty.

According to the system’s requirements, she needed to follow the original host’s storyline. Only by sticking with the protagonist’s group could she gain the highest troublemaker points, and the dog system was unwilling to let go of this piece of fat meat. It had made this the main mission.

Once Chi Xin tried to escape the storyline and fly solo, the system had the authority to erase her consciousness and take over.

What it was interested in was the inherent trouble-making nature of the original host’s character. As for its host Chi Xin, she’s just a temporary host. If one didn’t work out, it could just replace her with another more obedient one.

Ever since experiencing the sensation of being forcibly controlled by the system, with her consciousness imprisoned in a dark dungeon, Chi Xin had made up her mind that she would not allow the system to seize an opportunity to replace her.

Therefore, she couldn’t maintain a too rigid relationship with the protagonist group.

Thinking about the strange things filling her space, Chi Xin felt a headache coming on.

In the following time, everyone entered a discussion on how to defend against the “more powerful thing” she mentioned, Chi Xin looked at the battle-hardened soldiers surrounding her. She thought about how they had bravely fought to protect her during the zombie tide and gratefully said, “Thank you.”

Several soldiers were taken aback, and the young leader among them, who had just fervently argued against the others, now seemed almost… timid.

“Goddess… I mean, hero, you must be joking. We should be the ones to thank you,” he stammered.

Several soldiers agreed frantically.

Chi Xin couldn’t help but smile as she looked at the dark-skinned faces around her.

The soldier who saw her smiling had a dreamy expression on his face. After realizing his expression, he suddenly lowered his head, not daring to look at Chi Xin anymore, and trotted over to pick up the head again.

Chi Xin: …

“Why are you so obsessed with this head?” She couldn’t help but ask.

The young soldier looked at her earnestly. “It’s your achievement and precious research material. I’ll take it back to the research facility at Base A, which is the best in the country.”

After saying these words, a blush crept onto his face, and his voice grew softer. “By the way… Your name is Chi Xin, right? I’m Xiao Li.”

His comrades immediately understood what was going on and teased him playfully. Ignoring their comments, Xiao Li snapped back, “Stop it! Don’t disturb her…”

When it came to rest, Chi Xin realized that she was still covered in blood. She immediately said, “I’m going back first. They seem to be discussing something important. Feel free to do whatever you want.”

The base doesn’t belong to her, so she can’t decide what to arrange for the soldiers.

Cao Yan noticed the situation here and stopped his chatter with Jing Xiubai to come over. “There are no strict rules here. You can take any available rooms. Just let me know so you can register when you’ve chosen one.”

The few soldiers don’t have tanks, and there are many crises outside. Naturally, they can’t rush back to Base A.

Cao Yan seemed to still have some feelings for Chi Xin. Although he no longer shouted to fight or kill, he just looked at the soldiers when he spoke, his expression a little stiff. Chi Xin didn’t care about him.

A few soldiers politely thanked him. After they questioned Chi Xin before, they developed a bad impression of the people in this base. Therefore, they didn’t want to get involved in their discussions and followed Chi Xin out of the meeting hall.

Before leaving, Chi Xin felt a gaze staring at her back, one that was less hostile and more… like Jiang Congyun’s.

As they parted ways with the soldiers and headed back to her room, Chi Xin felt a pair of eyes locked onto her back. It was a gaze that was soft but firm yet not openly hostile, different from what she had experienced earlier. It wasn’t like Jing Xiubai, but more like… the female lead, Jiang Congyun.

Separating from the soldiers and ignoring Xiao Li’s reluctant gaze, Chi Xin returned to her room.

Fortunately, the original owner’s room wasn’t as messy as the one she had created in her space, otherwise, Chi Xin, who loves cleanliness but doesn’t know how to tidy up the house, would have been quite upset.

After taking a quick shower, she realized that there was still blood and brain matter stuck to her skin. She vigorously scrubbed herself until her fair skin turned slightly pink before coming out.

Pulling up her long hair, she stood in front of a full-length mirror that allowed her to see her entire body.

This was the first time she had taken a close look at this unfamiliar body.

As a “fragile white lotus,” this body indeed possessed the kind of beauty that matched that description.

However… what was the deal with the thin layer of muscles covering these slender limbs?

Chi Xin stared at the position above her shorts, which should have been smooth/flat and fair but now had… faint abdominal muscles.

The smooth mermaid line extends down to her waist and is concealed beneath her shorts.

These enhancements not only hadn’t damaged the body’s beauty but had also removed the previous impression of fragility. When exposed, they exuded a healthy, wild charm.

Chi Xin was well aware that these seemingly slender muscles concealed tremendous power. Yet, as soon as she put on clothes, if it weren’t for the heroic look between her brows, she would look like that delicate and beautiful flower vase again.

Chi Xin stared at her reflection in the mirror, still not quite used to this face that was completely different from her own body.

Touching her outline in the mirror with her slender fingertips, Chi Xin’s eyes showed a trace of confusion.

Was the daughter of the Chi family really dead?

From now on, the only one left was Chi Xin, struggling to survive in this post-apocalyptic world.

Chi Xin couldn’t help but touch the spot on her chest where there should have been a gunshot wound. Instead, there was a green pendant imprint—a sign of her integration with the space.

Now that her relationship with the protagonist group seemed even more strained, Chi Xin knew she had to be careful. If she wanted to follow the plot and rejoin them, this pendant would be a troublesome thing to deal with.

Chi Xin suddenly clenched her fists, and her expression which could be called gentle when there was no crisis became firm. Even though she had once been a delicate flower vase, she had to live on.

The system had promised that when the plot ended and her “trouble-making value” was full, she would be granted freedom to live in this world. However, if she couldn’t accumulate enough “trouble-making value,” the system would likely be more than happy to replace her.

She couldn’t die, not as the system wanted. She had survived so many dangers, even waking up after being shot in the chest. What reason did she have not to live?

She wants to live. Even if she had no one to protect her from now on, even in this devastated world, she still has to… live!
