How To Survive As a Villain on the Verge of Death

CHAPTER 125

The Duchess ordered them to prepare as they would test the cure immediately. As soon as those words were spoken, the room started to get busier. The maid brought a small pot to boil water, and the doctor took out the scented candles he had brought with him. A maid brought her tray and tools so she could polish her scented candles. The Duke and Duchess watched the scene with anxious eyes. She was standing quietly next to the bed when Diane suddenly grabbed her by the sleeve. Diane tilted her head towards her and whispered quietly.

“I heard it from Lot,” she said. “You two have reconciled.”

‘Oh, we did.’

She had forgotten about it for a moment while looking for scented candles, but Lot and Diane had written a fake letter to get her and Terence to meet up. Diane looked at her and looked a little sorry.

“Thanks to Miss Diane and Lot.”

Diane heard her and she smiled slightly. At that moment, life bloomed for a moment in her cheeks, which were as white as a plaster statue.

“Sorry. I hoped you two would reconcile.”

She didn’t feel particularly bad, but she wanted to clearly tell him not to do that again next time. Seeing him in such pain made me cautious about saying such things. Well, she didn’t have any bad intentions and she didn’t suffer any harm. It was just a bland joke. Because she was just called to an empty room in the mansion. Rather, thanks to that prank, she was able to chat with Terence over warm tea and sweet dessert.

“Don’t do that again.”

Instead of warning him, she decided to just laugh it off.

“I heard Terence scolded me for not recognizing his handwriting.”

Diane asked as if she couldn’t believe she heard her.

“Then, Terence, did you notice that it wasn’t Her Highness’s handwriting?”

“Surprisingly, they recognized that I didn’t write it.”

How did she remember all those details? Maybe it’s because she had such a keen eye for attention. Diane’s eyes widened as if in surprise, but then she smiled playfully and covered her mouth with one of her hands.

“Oh my god, Terence must really like the Grand Duchess.”

“Don’t make fun of me.”

When she scolded Diane, she laughed quietly and pulled the blanket up to her chest. Her thick winter blanket hid Diane’s body comfortably. Diane, buried under her blanket, looked as if she had entered her nest, not the blanket. She was that small and skinny. The eyes that were looking at her from inside the blanket slowly closed. Diane seemed to come to her senses again and forced her eyelids up.

“Sorry. I’m sleepy all the time these days.”

She wasn’t sleepy, but rather listless, and her mind seemed to be clouded. She only exchanged a few words with her, but even that alone seemed to cause extreme fatigue. The situation was really serious. She understood why the doctor wanted to test Diane right away. Since she had a prognosis, she was confident that her illness would be cured, but the doctor only observed the other patient’s condition for two days. Nevertheless, there was a reason why she rushed to the mansion impatiently. She was in such a critical condition that if Diane didn’t get treatment right away, there would be no hope for her.

“It will get better.”

She gently held Diane’s hand as it lay limply on her bed. Her hands were as bare as a dry branch and as cold as a snowflake. She slowly grasped those slender fingers.

“You won’t be disappointed this time. I will definitely treat your illness and make a clean recovery.”

Diane looked at the back of her hand covering her hand and then lifted her gaze. A moment of sadness passed as Diane looked at her clasped hands. She didn’t seem to believe that Diane or herself would be okay with her.

“I think that would be great.”

But when she looked at her again, her eyes sparkled with happy anticipation.

“When I get better, I want to go to the prom. Will you come with me?”

“Sure. Let’s have a ball together at our mansion.”

While they were whispering, the doctor who had finished getting ready called Diane.

“Princess. Please come this way.”

Before she knew it, the bedroom was filled with the bitter smell of water mixed with scented candles. Diane sat in front of the table, supported by the doctor. Then she lifted her nightgown and exposed her arms. Diane’s arms were covered in red spots that made it difficult to see her white skin. Both were in that state. Her treatment proceeded similarly as seen in her foresight. However, this time she did not use too hot steam for the weakened Diane, but instead used her boiled water. Diane repeated steaming her arms three times until the water cooled down.

“How are you feeling?”

“I don’t feel anything special.”

In response to the doctor’s question, Diane looked closely at her own arms.

“I think the colors have faded a little.”

As he said, her red spots had changed to a slightly bright red.

“Isn’t it because it’s wet?”

The duke, who was watching her with a nervous expression, spoke as if she still couldn’t believe it, but he too seemed relieved inside her. She must have been relieved that there didn’t seem to be any major side effects, at least not yet.

“Today, you must continue treatment like this at regular intervals.”

It was decided that the doctor would remain at the mansion and continue to treat Diane and monitor her condition. She greeted to the Duchess and Diane and returned to the mansion.

* * *

It was exactly three days later that the Rohan duchy contacted her again. In the meantime, she spent each day quietly waiting for news inside the mansion.

Terence was busy with imperial palace work and Lot was studying. She was busy helping with work at the mansion. It felt like the life of an ordinary noblewoman. Her husband was busy working and couldn’t come back to the mansion, and her child was stuck in the study room all day studying. She spent her time checking the finances of the mansion. It’s like this because everyone had things to do right now, and when they had free time, they could have dinner together and go out to play. It was a peaceful life in its own way. If she were to marry Terence and have children, would she end up living like this?

Her future was still uncertain, but if she survived like this, it might happen. While she was sitting blankly by the window and thinking about this, Nell announced a message from the Duke’s family.

“Princess, the Duchess of Rohan has sent an attendant. If it’s okay, he said he would like you to visit the mansion today.”

It seemed like it’s Diane’s job. As soon as she heard that, she stood up. The duke’s mansion she visited again was the same as the last time, but the atmosphere was a little different from then. From the bustling servants to the butler who came to meet her, she felt strangely alive.

“Your Highness the Grand Duchess…!”

When the Duchess heard that she had come, she came running downstairs. The Duchess was very happy and she greeted her. She looked a bit tired, but her complexion was bright and her eyes were full of happiness.

Her treatment went well. The moment she met the Duchess, she could tell that the outcome was good.

“Welcome, princess.”

“Is Miss Diane okay?”

“Sure. She has improved so much.”

The Duchess led her to Diane’s room. She belatedly met the duke in front of Diane’s boudoir.

“Thank you for visiting, Your Highness. She was about to go downstairs when she heard you had arrived, but I was too late.”

He was a duke and he looked several years younger than the last time she saw him. Unlike before, he greeted her in a very polite manner.

“What about Miss Diane?”

“It’s in the bedroom.”

Diane was sitting next to the table in the bedroom. The doctor next to her was removing a bowl of water containing her scented candle.

“Your Highness the Grand Duchess. You’re here.”

“Miss Diane, how are you? Are you okay?”

Instead of answering, Diane rolled up her arms and showed them to her. The moment she saw that, she was surprised and took her breath away. Diane’s arms, which had been covered with red spots only three days ago, had turned white and clean.

“…It is completely gone.”

“Are you okay?”

“Yes, there is no pain and no bad symptoms at all.”

Diane looked at her and she was almost crying.

“There has been some improvement so far, but… This is the first time I’ve seen something disappear so cleanly.”

It disappeared really cleanly. The ugly spots that covered her skin disappeared as if they had been washed away, leaving only white, soft skin. She knew it would work, but she had no idea she would get better so quickly. She was happy to see that she improved so quickly. The doctor next to her explained her explanation with proud eyes.

“The princess recovered faster than other patients I treated. The patient also improved quickly within a day, but it has not completely disappeared to this extent yet.”

Since Diane was still young and had good resilience, she seemed to heal faster. The other patient she had seen before was older, and perhaps she had been ill for a longer period of time than Diane and had a deeper history of accumulated illness.

“I haven’t been able to treat other areas yet, but if things continue like this, I think I’ll be able to treat the whole body. It will take some time to fully recover.”

“That’s really good.”

It would take time to heal the entire body, but seeing the effects appear so quickly made her think other areas would also heal quickly. The Duchess had tears in her eyes as she looked at Diane’s shapely arms. She bowed her head deeply towards her.

“It’s all thanks to her highness. Thank you.”

“What did I do? I was just telling you what I heard.”

In fact, all she did was look at the forecast and find the scented candle. It wasn’t that difficult. Considering that Diane got sick while she was helping her with her wedding in the first place, it was natural that she had to look for her.

“Your Highness the Grand Duchess.”

The Duke of Rohan, who was opposite her, looked at her with perplexed eyes. He had a strange expression on his face that was embarrassed, but also filled with guilt and shame. The duke, who was watching her, lowered his gaze as if he had no shame. Then he bowed politely in front of her.

“I misunderstood Her Highness the Grand Duchess and have behaved very rudely. It’s all my fault. It’s late, but I’ll apologize now.”

“No. It’s natural for you to misunderstand.”

A young grand duchess who knew nothing about alcohol asked her to try a scented candle that she heard about from her maid. It was an action that seemed like a useless act to anyone. She insisted because she was confident because of her foresight, but common sense would have enabled the duke to refute it. When the Duke responded with a smile, saying that she understood everything, he seemed embarrassed but a little touched.

“Thanks to Your Majesty, I was able to cure my daughter’s illness. This grace… I will never forget it.”

Although the Duke of Rohan may not immediately side with the Grand Duke, she thought that this incident could sway him to their side to some extent. After receiving the Duke’s promise, she approached Diane.

“That went really well, Diane.”

Diane smiled happily as she held her hand. There was moisture filled with joy in her clear eyes.

“Thank you, Your Highness the Grand Duchess.”

She smiled silently and cupped Diane’s hand in hers. She had changed the future several times by looking at premonitions, but this was the first time she felt this much joy.
