“Anyway, why is it Eve…?”
She didn’t even dream to be the heroine, shouldn’t it have been better to be a simple lady-in-waiting or a passing citizen? She might rather be a beggar outside the palace than Eve. Beggars at least have some freedom.
However, she herself has become ‘that’ Eve. She was the heroine’s half-sister and the worst villain in the story. Up to this point, it was a common development when possessing a character in a novel, but the problem was…
“Isn’t this the point where the heroine has already appeared and she is making a name for herself as a real saint?”
Looking at the time and events that have occurred, it was now more than half of the original work. In other words, Eve was bullying the heroine and was hated by everyone around her.
No, why did she come at that point even if she was transmigrating? At least, at the beginning of the original work, she would try to change her image somehow and get along with the heroine.
‘What can I do when my relationship with the people around me is already ruined?’
Besides, there was a bigger problem. As she counted the days, she realized an even more shocking fact.
“Eve’s death… I only have about a month and a half left, right?”
Even though Eve was a villain who stands opposite to the heroine, Eve leaves in the middle of the novel. Because she was killed on the day of her wedding to the Grand Duke.
* * *
Terence, Grand Duke of Lenz, Eve’s fiancé and the sub-male protagonist of this novel. He was a handsome man who was loved by all noble ladies. He was also a war hero who went to war and won victories from the age of 15. Thanks to this, he had come of age and was now powerful enough to threaten the emperor.
Eve falls in love with the Grand Duke at first sight and clings to him.
‘It was a really stupid choice.’
The male protagonist, vice-captain of the Imperial Knights, was cold to his enemies but warm to his woman, but the sub male lead and the best dark actor in the story, the Grand Duke, was equally ruthless and cruel to everyone, regardless of age or gender. The original work focused on the love life of the female and male protagonists, so the imperial situation or power structure was not described in detail. But even in the midst of that, the secret struggle between the Grand Duke and the emperor came out in quite detail.
The young Grand Duke was fighting a fierce power struggle behind the scenes with the current emperor. But simple Eve did not understand such a political situation. She was simply infatuated with the peerless handsome Grand Duke, and she desperately clung to marrying him.
When the Grand Duke refuses to marry her, Eve denies her food and even goes on a hunger strike in order to marry him.
‘Of course, she wasn’t really starving, it was just acting.’
While pretending to be hungry, she told her ladies-in-waiting to secretly fetch and eat bread at night. Still, the hunger strike worked.
Saying that they couldn’t let her princess die, even her ministers began to appease the Grand Duke. By that time, even the Grand Duke, who fiercely loathes Eve, reluctantly accepts the marriage.
‘But that was the Emperor’s ruse.’
Feeling threatened by the young Grand Duke, the emperor devises a plan to entrap the Grand Duke by taking advantage of the troublesome Eve. The plan was to assassinate Eve right before the wedding and frame the Grand Duke for the murder.
The ambitious Grand Duke resented his marriage to the unruly princess, considering it an insult. However, unable to refuse the wedding, he assassinates the bride in a fit of anger. It was a story that the world could fully accept since according to common sense, the only person with a motive to kill Eve was the Grand Duke.
In the end, as the Emperor planned, Eve was assassinated the day before her wedding. Next to Eve’s corpse, the daggers used by the knights of the Grand Duke’s family remained as proof. It was too artificial a trace to be evidence, but people doubted the Grand Duke as if it was natural. Because there was no one other than the Grand Duke who could have a motive for the murder.
‘Fortunately, the Archduke escapes from the trap like the final darkness.’
Instead, in the process, he inevitably joins hands with the male lead. And as he becomes friendly with Sorel, the heroine, he enters her fishery as a sub-man.
In the end, there was a happy ending where everyone joined hands and was happy. But Eve of course, since she died in vain, and was not even mentioned until the end. It was a satisfactory ending for the reader, but the problem was that she had now become that Eve.
After understanding the situation, it was absurd.
“No, why is my life like this?”
The first one died in an accident after suffering a lot. The second life she got was going to be ended soon. How could two lives be a gutter? Had she been cursed with something?
She entered that world exactly 44 days before her wedding. 44 days… Why was it so fiery from the date? If she was going to get the numbers right, it’s 1056 hours or 6,285 weeks. The newly acquired life had about a month and a half left before ending.
‘I can’t suffer dog death like the original story.’
It was the 4th day since she woke up in that body. The first day passed while she was figuring out the situation, and the second day passed in an instant while she was looking around. After that, she spent the next two days idly thinking about how to adapt to her princess life and escape her death.
‘Finally… It means I have 40 days left in my life.’
The remaining 44 days of her life has now become a terminally ill life with 1 month and 10 days remaining. She got a second life, but she couldn’t die in vain like this. She would have to figure out a way to survive somehow.
She got out of bed and went to the mirror on one side of the wall. Her face was reflected in the gold-rimmed mirror. In the mirror, a red-blond haired beauty of about 19 was rubbing her face with a stupid expression.
“Your face looks too innocent for a villainess.”
Delicate blue eyes that looked gentle. A straight nose and pale pink lips. Immaculate milky skin. Long reddish blonde hair… She was beautiful, but for some reason, she had a mild and cute impression for a villainess. With a face like that, she was so depraved… People said one couldn’t tell just by looking at what they looked like, and that’s right.
She was staring blankly into the mirror when the door opened with a click.
“Wow, princess…!”
Her sandy-haired maid, whom she saw when she first woke up, found her and bowed her head in amazement.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, Princess. I didn’t know you woke up…”
“No, it’s okay.”
Even when she said that the lady-in-waiting was fine, she trembled and lowered her head.
“My Lady, I will prepare water for washing.”
After a while, warm water filled with petals was prepared in the bathroom as large as the bedroom.
With the help of her maids, she bathed and washed her hair with rose water. After washing her body with fragrant water, she felt much better.
While she was taking a bath, the ladies-in-waiting moved in perfect order.
‘They’ve got the perfect discipline.’
It felt more like a well-trained soldier than a lady-in-waiting. It was said that Eve felt ill during a hunger strike and lay in bed for several days.
After she woke up in that body, the lady-in-waiting spoke anxiously. She said she had a fever for several days and everyone was worried. She said that in the middle of the night she fell into a coma and she tried to call the doctor again but she suddenly opened her eyes.
‘Perhaps the real Eve was dead then.’
In the book, Eve felt ill for a while, but she was only ill for a few days and she quickly recovered. But Eve died there. And she entered that body.
In any case, because Eve had been bedridden for a while, no one thought it strange even though I was confined to the princess’s palace for ten days.
On the contrary, everyone seemed to be at a loss because they feared that she would act more eccentric than usual. After finishing her bath, the ladies-in-waiting immediately ordered breakfast.
“Breakfast is ready.”
There were so many dishes that there was not enough space on the table. Five types of soups and crepes, three-meat ravioli, frittatas, colorful pies and fruits… It was such a sumptuous menu that the word breakfast was colorless.
She took a seat at the table and sat down. She was thinking about what to eat first, but the first thing that caught her eye was the cream-colored silk glove next to the bowl.
Eve, who was extremely shy, wore gloves even when eating. She glanced through the closet and there were hundreds of gloves.
‘Come to think of it, this is what made Eve a fake saint in the original story.’
FALSE.
It was a modifier used by the people of the Empire to address Eve.
Strictly speaking, Eve wasn’t fake. Because she was really born with ‘sacred power’.
Daughters born into the imperial family were endowed with divine powers. As if to prove that fact, since the founding of the country, princesses have always been born with special abilities. Of course, even if they were princesses, the amount of innate holy power was different, and the characteristics of the holy power were also different. Among them, Eve’s holy power was foreknowledge, that was, the power to see the future. The problem is that that ‘precognition’ was a really insignificant ability.
In the past, princesses had the ability to foresee the country’s major events, such as the victory or defeat of a war or a natural disaster. But Eve did not see such an important future. She could only see trivial futures, such as a teacup breaking accident or tomorrow’s weather.
Even after that, she hadn’t seen a single vision since she was ten years old. After years of not being able to use any powers, people thought that Eve had completely lost her holy powers.
‘Actually, the ability didn’t disappear.’
In reality, her abilities didn’t disappear, it was just that the way she used them changed slightly.
