Shake!
The carriage stopped.
“We have arrived at Duke Piellion’s residence, Your Majesty.”
It was time to get off the carriage.
“Your Majesty the Empress.”
As Lasilia said nothing, clutching the hem of her dress tightly, Decan gave her a look.
“…”
A watery gaze illuminated my face. It seemed like he was telling her not to avoid it but to face it. ‘Who you are and what you want. Stop hiding and face each other.’
“May I open the door, Your Majesty?” the guard outside the carriage asked. Before Lasilia could give her answer, she spoke quickly to Decan.
“I ask you one thing.”
“Yes, Your Majesty the Empress.”
“Is it the Lord’s guess that I might miss Dell’Arta, or is it His Majesty’s intention?”
“Nothing I say can go beyond or go against Your Majesty’s will.”
“So, this is Your Majesty’s will?”
“That’s right.”
She could tell from that. The Emperor was thinking that she might not be the Empress of Cartagena. Nevertheless, he believed that she was his real companion.
‘The Empress of Cartagena bore her mark. However, her mark gradually disappeared after her marriage… I was resurrected in the body of the Empress immediately after using the spell to restore her mark.’
Does that really mean she was originally a real pet? Did the spell not return her mark to the Empress of Cartagena, but to her true companion? Lasilia remembered the whispers of birds she heard immediately after she opened her eyes.
-Really. The real thing has arrived.
-Then he is coming now too.
If that real thing is you. And if by that he means Pipi, the king of birds. Strangely enough, absurd situations were coming together one by one to become evidence.
‘I need to check the mark.’
If she was correct, the mark that was said to be erased will have returned. The emperor didn’t seem to care whether the mark was present or not, but from Lasilia’s perspective, it was different. The mark will be the answer to who she is now.
“…Then I too will understand her majesty’s intentions.”
Lasilia nodded her head slightly. She then turned to the outside of the carriage and spoke.
“Open the door.”
“Yes, Your Majesty the Empress.”
Widely.
The carriage door opened, and the residence of Duke Piellion was revealed before my eyes.
* * *
The Duke’s residence, which was praised as the most beautiful building in the capital except the imperial palace, did not have that feeling at all. It was like a huge tomb, gorgeous and empty. A huge number of employees came out to greet Lasilia, but there was no feeling of hospitality at all. The Duke’s residence was just heavy and gloomy.
“Don’t get too close, Your Majesty.”
Lasilia, who was guided to the duke’s bedroom, bitten everyone except Decan. If it was true that Duke Piellion was deprived of part of her consciousness like the imperial tailor, she could have unintentionally gotten other people involved as well. With no one looking except for the Duke, who was lying on the bed like a dead body with his eyes wide open, Decan quickly chanted her spell over Lasilia’s body. He said it was a protective spell.
“Your eyes are bloodshot… I think it’s worse than the imperial tailor.”
Lasilia said after looking at the duke.
“The imperial tailor’s symptoms continued to worsen. Later they said the snow had melted.”
“This.”
Lasilia’s eyes frowned.
“According to Duke Piellionso, she said that he became strange after visiting the temple. Then that means the culprit is in the temple.”
“I don’t think there is any other answer than that. There is something inside the temple. Something that dares to harm the imperial family.”
The duke was staring at the ceiling with unfocused eyes, drool dripping from one corner of his mouth. It was a miserable sight. As long as there is a force out there somewhere that makes normal people like this, things like this will continue to happen.
“Can’t we call a priest with healing powers?”
“The priest’s healing power did not work at all even for the imperial tailor. It’s probably not a naturally occurring disease.”
The expression was written without her even realizing it.
“I guess that’s because it’s not a disease caused by magic or incantation, but by that power.”
“You’re right. Just as magic, sorcery and divine power cannot interfere with each other, so can this power.”
Somehow, it sounded like the duke was saying that it was his fault that this had happened. Lasilia looked at the Duke with her pitiful eyes.
“If Lord Piellion had not visited the temple… This wouldn’t have happened.”
“Are you blaming me?”
“I guess.”
Decan studied Lasilia’s expression carefully and opened his mouth.
“Do you remember what I said before?”
“What are you saying?”
“I asked Her Majesty how she restored Lord Sigress and Princess Shriden, who had their will taken away by this power.”
“I answered that I didn’t know anything.”
“Yes, you did. But do you still feel the same way?”
“Does the Lord believe that I have the ability to restore Lord Piellion?”
“Yes. Otherwise, we cannot explain why Lord Sigress and Princess Shriden are safe.”
“…”
Lasilia was lost in her thoughts for a moment. She remembered the moment when those two people responded to her voice. But she never thought that it was some special ability she had. But now she was at a point where many of the things she believed she was true were shaken. Moreover, not long ago she had a dream. A strange dream in which some of the demon’s power was transferred to her. Immediately after that dream, she could see what Yvette was thinking. At the time, she thought it was an illusion, but later she could see Duke Piellion’s feelings. Twice couldn’t have been a coincidence.
“Is the reason you are so confident because you believe that I am Your Majesty’s companion? Did your first companion have that ability?”
Lasilia asked and Decan slowly shook her head.
“No. There are many stories about our first companions, but not many of them are accurate. All that is said is that he was an excellent shaman and that he received the protection of the Phoenix. But…”
“But?”
“There are several records showing that lying did not work on the first companion. It was never said that he controlled human minds, but it was said that he seemed to read people’s minds.”
“…Right.”
It became clear. The dream he had was about demons and his first companion. In his dreams, he felt like he had become a companion. The reason was unknown, but the fact that such an influence occurred seemed to mean that he was not unrelated to his companion. She suddenly felt hot below her waist.
‘Is this… Is it because of the markings? Has the mark returned?’
She couldn’t see it, but she somehow felt like it was like that. Lasilia held her hand and closed her eyes tightly.
It was strange. It still seemed to make more sense to her that she had nothing to do with the empire or the Emperor’s companion, but she felt like she was shouting out that this was not the case for everyone but herself. Even her dreams were like that. After she was revived in the body of the empress, Lasilia did not have any precognitive dreams. What Lasilia dreamed was something that had happened in her distant past. But can she still call herself a prophet? Did the prophet of the Kingdom of Dell’Arta die after being stabbed by the dreamkeeper, and did he become a completely different being now? Has the thread of the soul that helped her find her way in the land of the dead become entangled in her own? So is she still unable to find her way and is she mistaken that she is a prophet?
She opened her eyes, which Lasilia had closed. If she got lost she had to find it again. She is trying to find the meaning of the things given to her one by one. She thought that might be her clue to finding her way.
“The power to read people’s minds came from the demons. It has been transferred through subordination to blood.”
“…Your Majesty the Empress?”
She seemed surprised by Decan, as she had not expected Lasilia to say such a thing.
“How did you know that? If I see something I don’t know, it probably won’t be recorded…”
“There was a time when I read people’s minds unintentionally. twice.”
“Twice…”
“It’s too clear to dismiss it as a coincidence, but it’s too weak to call it a power. So I’m not sure if it was my power that brought those two people back.”
Decan understood what Lasilia was saying.
“This happened relatively recently, and it sounds like you were confused because you didn’t know exactly what was going on.”
“You’re right sir. I feel burdened by the things that have happened to me. I don’t even know what meaning those things have. The same goes for this power. I don’t know if the power given to me is correct, but I also don’t know how to use it.”
Decan’s eyes, like gentle waves, seemed to understand Lasilia’s confusion. Decan pointed to Duke Piellion, who was lying on the bed.
“Then try it Lord Piellion. At least you will know the results.”
“That cannot be denied.”
Lasilia nodded her head and stepped in front of Duke Piellion. Then he took her by the shoulders and looked into her clouded eyes, as he had done with both of them.
‘What did you do then…?’
She must have been desperate. She would have hoped that the two would come back as usual and that everyone would be safe.
“May the thing that is currently holding your consciousness be released into your hands. I hope the ball comes back soon.”
Just like back then, her voice became strange. It felt like it was ringing in her head, and it also felt like it was being pushed out of her heart. It was like a gentle wave spreading low but very far away.
“Ah…”
Decan let out a small exclamation and looked at Lasilia.
“Ooh, ooh…! Ugh!”
The duke suddenly threw up his hands and convulsed.
“Your Majesty the Empress!”
Decan quickly rushed over and grabbed Lasilia by the shoulders, pulling her away from the duke’s body.
“Ooh, ooh! …OMG… Wow!”
The Duke, who was twisting his body around, vomited black, dead blood.
“Lord Piellion!”
[—————————————————]
The Duke, who had vomited blood, lay down and closed his eyes. The blanket was stained red with blood, but strangely enough, the duke’s face looked calm. He didn’t even drool, as if he was in a daze. Decan placed his hand on the duke’s neck, checking his temperature and pulse.
“There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong. I still don’t know, so I guess I’ll have to call a doctor.”
“Yes. That would be great. Now then, Lord Piellion…”
“It looks quite different to me. I don’t feel any other energy in my body. We will only know for sure when Lord Piellion wakes up, but wouldn’t this alone be enough to say that the demon’s abilities have been transferred to Her Majesty?”
“That is… No, wait.”
Lasilia, realizing something, raised her hand towards Deccan.
“Why are you doing this, Your Majesty?”
“If this is really the power of the demons…”
Lasilia’s face turned pale. She thought maybe this was a bigger problem than whether she was a real pet or not.
“Wouldn’t that mean that the imperial tailor and someone at the temple who took Lord Piellion’s consciousness also possessed demon powers?”
“This…!”
