“Luna will never lose anything.”
Since it was his private time now, Sir Daniel, who had corrected her title and accent, stroked Luna’s head.
“Why?”
“Because anyone can see you’re Elliot’s younger sister.”
To be compared to her brother, how was that a compliment? She rolled up her sleeves over the two bickering.
Today’s lunch was fried rice. It was all because of the children’s begging to prepare a dish that did not match the background.
Originally, she ate Korean food alone. She was accused of being a witch who ate people just by baking human-shaped cookies, but she didn’t know what kind of false accusation she would get if she cooked food that people there didn’t know anything about. But a few days ago, she secretly cooked fried rice and was caught by the children. It was just a mixture of leftover ingredients and cold rice, but it looked delicious to the Chestnut’s eyes.
This time, she chopped vegetables that children didn’t eat well and stir-fried them with slightly larger sliced ham. As the greasy smell began to waft through the cabin, Daisy snuggled up next to me and cried.
[Hehe, give it to me too. Hungry. I mean, I’m starving to death.]
“No, Daisy.”
Pretending to have starved for 10 days after inhaling the lunch the kids gave her a while ago. That liar…
Five sheets of cheese were added to well-roasted rice so that the seasoning was evenly distributed, and the whole cast iron pan was placed in the oven. The cheese soon sizzled and melted, turning brown and appetizing.
“Now, let’s have lunch.”
“Wow!”
Sprinkle it with pepper and parsley and put it on the table, and the children clapped their hands. She didn’t even tell them to come and sit down, but they were already sitting quietly at the table.
‘So unique.’
Two adults and two children sat around a table bathed in the warm late autumn sun. When she scooped the rice, the children swallowed their mouths and raised their spoons.
“Say it again, what’s it called?”
“Fried rice.”
“Fried-rice! Let’s eat a lot of rice!”
Did they like the pronunciation? Luca cut the cheese into chunks with a spoon and scooped it up with the rice while singing a song called ‘Spicy Rice’.
Anyway, Sir Daniel took a bite and quietly scooped out another spatula.
‘It’s good that I did a lot.’
After the Grand Duke left, most meals were eaten in the cabin. To think that just the two of them, the little chestnuts, had to eat while receiving the eyes of a dozen adults in that magnificent dining room…
‘I’ll try.’
So she asked Sir Daniel to have dinner in the cabin, and at first she was told no. She was powerless to make decisions about the children without his permission. It was because the Grand Duke had said so as he left.
“Listen carefully to Luna, Luca and Daniel. And the babysitter also listens to Daniel.”
What the! The reason why Daniel kept following them was not because he didn’t want to work with the Grand Duke, but because the Grand Duke wanted to keep an eye on her. Anyway, he was stubborn and soon changed his mind like flipping the palm of his hand since on the day the Grand Duke left, the sight of the two children eating alone at the large table made him feel sorry for them.
“I had a good meal!”
“That’s right. Make sure to write it down!!”
“Me too… Thanks to that, it was a satisfying meal.”
Dessert was a one person cookie. At first, they both thought ‘Mr. Ginger’ was alive and didn’t eat the man cookies she made, but Daisy had an accident while living in the cabin and found out it was just cookie.
“Oh! Meow! No Mr. Ginger!”
“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the cat is eating us
Daisy swallowed Mr. Ginger in one bite while it was dancing on the table while she was doing kitchen work. The children who were watching Mr. Ginger naturally turned blue and screamed.
There, of course, she also joined.
“That’s chocolate icing!”
It’s a very small amount, but even if it isn’t dangerous there’s no veterinarian here! For cases like that, it was a blessing to be able to bring things with a single click of a finger. The cookie was in her hand before it even went down Daisy’s throat.
“Ahhh, Mr. Ginger is like this.”
“Did Ginger go to heaven? No… ”
She had no choice but to be honest when the children were holding on to ginger cookies soaked in cat saliva and crying out loud because it had died.
“This cookie actually…”
She told them she was the one that made the cookies move and talk. And for lying that day, she had to bake a new batch of ginger seeds.
Now, both of them ate happily, as if they had never wailed while holding a cookie. Lately, she had been obsessed with decorating her own cookies.
“Today, I will bake your brother.”
Did Luna miss her distant brother?
She had no silver hair, so she painted her hair with white icing, her eyes with a piece of purple candy, and she gave Luna a candy cane in Cookie’s hand.
“And this…”
Placing a horse-shaped cookie next to it, saying it was a white horse the Grand Duke rides, was clearly a trick to get another cookie.
“Done! Make them move now!”
When she snapped her finger, the Grand Duke cookie rose from the plate. As the horse rose together, they jumped up and galloped across the table, brandishing his staff like a sword. A prince made of flour and butter was softer than a prince made of flesh and blood. Laughing at her crazy idea, Luna grabbed her cookie and pretended to be her brother.
“No, Luna. No way, Luca. No, nanny. I said no. Can’t you hear me? Should I call the doctor to check my ears?”
“Hehe, go straight with your brother.”
Well… Those language habits, really. She thought she needed to talk to the Grand Duke.
“Me too, me too!”
After wrestling for a while, Luca finally held out his plate.
Hmm… She didn’t know what Luca was trying to make.
“Who is this?”
“Brother Daniel!”
Luca proudly pointed at Sir Daniel across the table, his face contorted. It was difficult to manage the expression, and the cookies were covered with colorful dried fruits. In reality, he only wears achromatic clothes.
She suppressed a laugh and drew black hair and gray eyes with icing and returned it. The children asked to keep moving the cookies without eating the them.
“Let them fight!”
“Luna, me and Elliot don’t fight.”
“Really? Then let my brother dance on a galloping horse!”
“Ah, clowning is for me.”
As time went by, orders became more complicated and demanding. Besides, even Sir Daniel was involved.
“Then should Daisy eat it again?”
It was only then that the children were startled and ate their share of cookies.
She soon watched Daisy and the children playing ball happily in the small cabin and asked Sir Daniel.
“Isn’t it better to have a meal in a friendly way like this? Maybe that’s why children with bad habits are eating better.”
At the dining room in the mansion, the children thought it was an etiquette lesson rather than enjoying the meal, so they seemed to want to finish it quickly.
“Sir Daniel, please be kind to me, asking for the dining room and dining table to be changed to something smaller so that the family can dine in a cozy atmosphere until the Grand Duke returns.”
Because he wouldn’t listen to her. Besides, she had to leave as soon as the Archduke arrived.
“Let’s try it. I don’t know if you’ll listen.”
She nodded and looked out the sunny window and grumbled.
“Anyway, I have to take them outside on days like this…”
Then she heard a snort from the side.
“This is not something a person who daily breaks the rule not to go out with children without the Archduke’s permission.”
“Are we going out? This place is still in the closet in the boudoir of the Grand Duke’s residence.”
“Well, maybe that’s how it is, if you insist.”
“You don’t have to worry. Won’t it be safer than the Grand Duke’s palace with magic on it?”
“You mean this house?”
“Oh, no… It was just because I forgot the cookie and didn’t put it on.”
When it rained a few days ago, there was a water flood, and she didn’t forget to point it out again.
“I mean, with the flick of a finger, this cabin will spit an intruder out the door.”
Sir Daniel brought the teacup to his lips before tilting his head.
“Then why didn’t the Grand Duke do that when he came looking for the children?”
“I would have done it if I had come to harm the children.”
It would have been nice to see Elliot thrown out the door, but it’s a pity, I heard him mutter into his teacup.
“Sir Daniel, think carefully. How could a young woman survive safely in the middle of a forest alone?”
He nodded his head, as if he thought it made sense.
“Still, I will report to His Highness the Grand Duke.”
“That should be it.”
“And you can’t go out that door. Know that this will never be compromised.”
She was sorry, but nodded.
“But I have a question about Sir Daniel.”
The gaze over the teacup sharpened. When he even moved the chair away, she hurriedly waved my hand.
“No, I’m not asking because I’m interested in you!”
‘What do you see me as, really?’
“What I’m curious about is that you are a nobleman, so why do you treat me and other servants with respect?”
“That’s because I’m the same servant in the Grand Duke’s mansion.”
“Still, isn’t the captain of the guards and vice-captain a pretty high rank?”
“That’s why I’m even more sympathetic.”
“Yeah?”
“If I let go of my words, it’s easy to mistakenly think that I’m above the servants and wield more power than necessary.”
“Ah…”
“Especially if you have more authority like me, it’s easy to abuse it the moment you’re not paying attention, so you should always be careful.”
“As expected, you are a good person.”
As soon as she admired it, Sir Daniel moved the chair away from her again.
“Oh, is it not?”
It’s unfortunate, really.
* * *
The monster subjugation camp in the eastern border area was crowded with soldiers taking a rest after today’s subjugation. muttered a soldier who was stirring a large pot over a campfire while preparing a meal.
“Did you even have a lover?”
“Who?”
“Who is it, Grand Duke?”
