Grand Duke's Beloved Granddaughter

CHAPTER 052

“Tell me what you just meant. Who disposed of what?”

I wanted to make sure what I heard was true. As I urged, the two deacons hurriedly knelt down in front of me.

“Well, that’s it… That, that. I am…”

The butler, who appeared to be middle-aged, opened his mouth first, but could not finish speaking. He kept stuttering his words with his eyes fixed downwards. He looked like he had been caught stealing. No, there was nothing wrong with it. If what he said is true, he stole the letter. On the other hand, the older butler fell face down on the floor. He was trembling and looked as if he was on the verge of death.

“Is it true that you stole Mom’s letter?”

I asked on behalf of those who could not answer. The two people couldn’t answer and just bowed their heads. At that point, my suddenly heated head slowly began to cool down. As soon as I checked the conversation coming from inside, I rushed inside without even thinking about it, but now that I think about it, something felt uneasy. Could I catch the criminal this easily? It’s as if you’ve planned a situation where you’ll get caught in advance? If it had been discovered so poorly, would they have had the talent to hide the letter for nearly 10 years in the first place? If you paid a little more attention like me, you probably could have found it, right? Does it make sense that such lax people stole the letter and didn’t know about it? Questions kept popping up in my head. As soon as the commotion was caused by me, several servants, maids, and butlers came in. They looked at the two people kneeling in front of me and bowing their heads and muttered to each other in low voices. Most people didn’t seem to understand the situation. With a small sigh, I turned my head and looked at Kalina.

“Kalina, will you please bring grandfather? Or even uncle.”

“Yes, little lady.”

Kalina bowed her head and quickly left the room. I crossed my arms and looked down at the two people who had not yet responded. All I had to do was find out if he was acting really sloppily and got caught by me, or if he had another ulterior motive. But… Would the name Daniel appear among them? What concerned me was that they didn’t mention Daniel. As my mother and Grand Duke Crichton said, I didn’t want to make a problem of the fact that the letter had been missing. f course, that was something that could be raised as an issue, but I really wanted to let Archduke Crichton know that Daniel was plotting something behind his back. If it weren’t for Daniel, none of this would have happened. However, it was strange that the results came out so vainly. If Barden had been inside, the relationship between Barden and Daniel could have been brought up, but no matter how much we looked inside, Barden was nowhere to be seen.

As I was organizing my thoughts with a complicated mind, it became noisy outside. When I checked the person coming in, it turned out to be Grand Duke Crichton. Grand Duke Crichton checked the situation here and paused for a moment. Then he started to come inside slowly. Grand Duke Crichton came next to me. He didn’t say anything for a while, looking around at the situation.

“Baby, how did this happen?”

I let out a small sigh and then opened my mouth.

“I overheard a conversation between two people who said they stole her mother’s letters. So I asked them to tell me more, but neither of them said anything, so I called my grandfather.”

“…The letter?”

Grand Duke Crichton seemed to have finally realized the situation and let out a sigh.

“Is what Mirabel said true, Cedric? Walter?”

Grand Duke Crichton asked the two butlers who were bowing their heads. The two butlers exchanged anxious glances with each other.

“Raise your head and talk. Shouldn’t I know the details?”

Cedric raised his head at the urging in a calm voice.

“Sorry.”

Cedric crawled and apologized to Archduke Crichton in a low voice. Archduke Crichton sighed with a more complicated expression upon seeing Cedric apologizing without making any excuses.

“Accepting an apology is something that should be done after knowing the circumstances. Don’t you know it well?”

“…That is.”

“Lord, I have committed a mortal sin!”

While Cedric was hesitating to say his words, the butler called Walter shouted loudly.

“It’s all my fault. I, I received a letter from the eldest lady… I disposed of everything.”

Walter confessed and his body trembled like an aspen. After Grand Duke Crichton heard Walter’s confession, he sighed softly and wrapped his large hand around his shoulder.

“Mirabell, this story is going to be a bit long, so wouldn’t it be better for you to go out?”

Grand Duke Crichton suggested, concerned about me. I took Grand Duke Crichton’s hand on my shoulder and shook my head.

“No. I want to hear it too. You know I came all the way here alone because of the letter.”

I felt like I wouldn’t be able to understand the situation at all if I left like this, so I asked Grand Duke Crichton for a favor. Grand Duke Crichton, who was silent for a moment, shook his head and declined my request.

“Still, stay out. I don’t think this would be a good thing for you to hear when you’re young. Don’t worry, I’ll tell you what happened later.”

Grand Duke Crichton lightly patted my shoulder and then checked the surroundings.

“Yes, you. Guide Mirabelle outside.”

Grand Duke Crichton checked on Kalina, who had called him here, and spoke.

“Yes, I understand. Come here. Little lady.”

After Kalina bowed her head to Grand Duke Crichton, she turned to me and spoke cautiously. I bit my lower lip, frowned, and glared at Cedric and Walter before turning around. When I came out of the hallway, I saw Brian and Elliot gathered in front.

“What’s going on, Belle?”

“I think you should go inside. Grandfather is also inside.”

“Okay. I get it.”

Brian quickly agreed and went inside. Elliot watched Brian enter and only checked on me when Brian was out of sight.

“What happened? Is this something that you, along with His Excellency the Grand Duke, need to go in and check with your father?”

“Let’s move places for now.”

I took Elliot’s hand and led him, who was puzzled. Elliot obediently followed the direction I led. As I passed, I saw Varden looking at me from the end of the hallway. Did Barden know that I was suspicious and planned this? Was he going to make a fuss for no reason and end things like this? My eyes narrowed and I glared at him. It seemed clear that Barden was Daniel’s person. However, in the current situation, it was pointless to argue with him, so he came out with Elliot and her support.

“We’re going to talk, so would you mind staying far away?”

We gave instructions to Kalina, Anita, and Elliot’s attendants who followed us. They obediently distanced themselves from us. Only after I was sure they had stopped did I look back at Elliot.

“What’s wrong? What’s going on?”

Elliot took one look at her mansion. To be exact, it was in the direction where the postal department would be located.

“Is it because of the letter?”

“Huh.”

When I obediently nodded my head, Elliot was startled again and opened his mouth.

“A letter from your aunt? What happened? Was the material I sent helpful? No, did you find any evidence that your uncle did it?”

Elliot was curious, he asked me, but I could not give him a positive answer.

“No…”

“Then what happened?”

“I think Daniel did something wrong. And I moved on happily. Grandfather is still talking, but I think it will be difficult to hear that Daniel gave orders behind his back. There probably won’t be any clear results. “It looks like the letter was stolen by a butler named Walter.”

My voice suddenly lost its strength. Elliot patted my back lightly as if to comfort me. Then I heard Elliot hesitate and open his mouth.

“But there is no evidence that Grandpa did it, and if the culprit has come out now, wouldn’t it be possible for you to be mistaken, Mirabel?”

Elliot asked, paying attention to the tone of his voice so as not to offend me as much as possible. I glanced at Elliot once, but I quickly returned my gaze. From Elliot’s point of view, who knew nothing, it was entirely possible to think that way. But I couldn’t trust the current situation at all. In the first place, I heard it directly from Daniel 14 years later. It was Daniel who stole and disposed of his mother’s letters. Future Daniel even knew me well. Even the fact that I am my mother’s daughter and the granddaughter of Grand Duke Crichton. If you think about it, he must have been familiar with the entire contents of the letter.

“No. It’s clearly Daniel’s doing. But I guess I was too sloppy.”

“…okay. First, His Excellency the Grand Duke will investigate and tell you the results.”

I pursed my lips at the words he said to comfort me. As a result, Elliot seemed to not believe that it was Danielle who had secretly stolen and disposed of the letter. At first, I seemed to believe it because I argued so strongly, but with the result being this way, even if I were Elliot, I couldn’t help but think that I was making a mistake.

I sighed softly.

From now on, I thought it would be more beneficial to stay quiet and collect evidence, or to build a relationship where Daniel would not be suspicious of me.

“But you found the culprit. Don’t be too upset.”

My answer was to raise the corners of my mouth and smile at Elliot, who was trying hard to comfort me.

  1. jjaggii says:

Most likely, Walter (the butler) told the Evil Granpa about it and they set up a sceheme for Walter to take blame (instead of EG). This feels way too simple for such a major plot point °•°

  2. Prettysnowball10 says:

Barden probably manipulated the two other butlers to confess to it.
