“I feel like I can breathe…”
At the end of that sentence, Siaphyl spoke no more. He just closed his eyes completely, and soon after, a sound of gentle and steady breaths resounded in the room.
The defenseless and sleeping Siaphyl’s face looked very innocent; disheveled blonde hair, pale skin, long eye-lashes, and baby fat on the cheeks. It was an appearance that simply bore no resemblance to that of a villain, but instead looked like an angel in some myth.
I closed my eyes after dazing at Siaphyl meaninglessly. Sleeping with the little Kraiden wasn’t as uncomfortable as I thought.
* * *
“Sister…”
“Get here at once, Siaphyl Bear Kraiden.”
“Sisterrr….”
I peered at the troubled Siaphyl who’d stuck himself to the window of my carriage, looking at me with tears in his eyes.
Cassian, who was calling for Siaphyl, was on his way here after seeing that he wasn’t coming despite the wait.
“I want to travel with my sister, too. What’s wrong with that?”
Siaphyl repeated his grievances and whined, not caring whether he’d fall out of the window or not.
“You’re always with Elizabeth, can’t you stay with me today?”
At first glance, it seemed like a polite request, but it was not. If Siaphyl had puppy-like ears, they would be drooping at the moment.
“What’s wrong with you today? Did you eat something wrong?”
Merril, who sat opposite me again today, said.
She, who usually adored Siaphyl, was now looking at him like he was a freak. The same was true of Elizabeth, who was next to me.
However, despite the unkind glances he was receiving from all over, Siaphyl remained firm. His blue eyes did not fall from me even once.
“Everything I said yesterday is cancelled.”
Siaphyl, who usually acted mature and cheeky, had changed. It was funny to see him dismiss his indulgence in acting childish for once yesterday so blatantly.
“Did everyone not know already? The youngest is supposed to act like that anyway.”
Lidan outside the window shrugged, saying it was not a big deal. But I knew the truth. When he’d seen Siaphyl clinging to the window earlier, he spat out the water he was drinking.
I leaned out of the window and whispered to Siaphyl.
“Your highness, there’s a lot of eyes on us right now.”
It was a request under the guise of advice. I’m asking you to return to being the well-behaved youngest.
“Yes, I know. But I’ve only been looking at you this whole time.”
Siaphyl looked at me with eyes that seemed to say, ‘I didn’t glare at anyone, instead I looked only at you. I did a good job, didn’t I?’ it seemed he was asking for an undeserved compliment.
“This is not how things are supposed to be.”
I felt something was completely wrong. In the meantime, Cassian was approaching from behind Siaphyl.
Instead of saying anything, he put his arms under Siaphyl’s armpits and lifted him up with ease.
“Hng, brother?”
“How many times did I tell you that we have to go now?”
“But…!”
Siaphyl’s legs rattled in the air. Cassian carried him like a sack and headed for the carriage they were supposed to ride.
“Sister…!”
I heard Siaphyl’s call of grief, but I couldn’t do anything about it. Merril burst into laughter as I closed the curtains quietly.
“It’s noisy, you, go back to your carriage too.”
Elizabeth frowned and pointed out of the carriage.
However, the person, Merril, had been in this very carriage since the very beginning of this inspection survey, so she was somewhat attached to this carriage. She only snorted at Elizabeth’s condescending words.
It seemed like Merril won when Elizabeth looked annoyed and turned her head.
Merril, who won in the same way today, tapped the empty seat next to her and looked relieved.
“It’s so spacious without one person.”
Somehow, Lidan gave up his seat today very easily.
He whispered something to Elizabeth before going to his carriage, and something seemed to have happened, given that she had not avoided his head in disgust.
‘is it about me…?’
As usual, I tried to look out the window blankly, but I could feel their glancing gazes. Of course, the owner of the gaze was Elizabeth, because Merril, who was absorbed in polishing her sword, had no eyes for me.
When I turned my head, Elizabeth, whom I thought would turn her gaze away in an instant, continued to stare at me.
“…Do you have something to say?”
Elizabeth tapped her finger at the map inside the book she was reading earlier, and closed it as she answered,
“Yes.”
I could feel Merril, shining the blade of her sword, quietly raising her head and looking at us.
As the wind blowing through the curtains shook the hair behind her ears, she asked me her question.
“How’s your maid?”
“…what?”
Was there any reason as to why Elizabeth would ask about Sheila all of a sudden?
When I asked back with a confused tone, Elizabeth referred to the past.
“Before, you were going around alone saying that your maid was sick.”
“Oh…she’s fine now. I think she’s a lot better.”
“I see.”
Not just much better, Sheila was even more energetic than before. It was just like Farid had said.
‘The cause is probably…’
Just as I was recalling the little bottle he’d left in the castle, Elizabeth asked me another startling question,
“Then what about your servant?”
“……!”
As soon as Farid was mentioned, my heartbeat began to fasten. Whether she’d seen the hardening of my fingertips or not, Elizabeth tilted her head.
Seeing the still purple eyes, I sensed it almost immediately.
Elizabeth already knows the answer.
And the next thing she spewed out proved it.
“Where did your servant go, Levisia?”
Hello, this is Ami. I picked up this novel because I truly love it and the previous translator became inactive. I hope you will like it and follow it with me, and I hope I can do it justice. Just to mention some very important things now,
- The raws that I’ve acquired are in first-person. The previous translation has been in third person, so I was justifiably confused, but it is like this for all of the chapters, so I will be continuing this series in first-person.
- The previous translator had divided the chapters into two parts, so chapter 168 was actually chapter 84 in the raws. I have named this chapter 169 for the sake of continuity, but going forth, I will be translating the chapters in full.
- The previous translator did a brilliant job with this series and I’m so grateful for all the chapters that they translated. I hope I can do a good job as well ^^
