Failed to Train the Beast Male Lead

The last time they met was when she had insisted on him forging her identity.

“I’m glad to see your face has improved a lot since I last saw you.”

“It’s all thanks to you, Lord.”

If it weren’t for Lord Elais who had complied with her unreasonable request back then, she wouldn’t be who she is now.

At Carol’s response, Lord Elais placed his hand on the back of hers and repeatedly expressed his relief.

Carol looked at Lord Elais with affection.

“It must have been difficult for you to come alone. I’m glad you came.”

Carol said, filled with sincerity. Lord Elais patted his back, saying that aging was inevitable.

“I came with my son who attended the academy. It was impossible to come alone. He should be on his way back after taking care of the carriage.”

“That’s reassuring for your return journey as well.”

“Come to think of it, I haven’t introduced him to you yet, Miss Carol.”

“This will be our first meeting then.”

“That’s right.”

“Actually, I also have someone I’d like to introduce to you, Lord.”

Carol naturally mentioned the Duke. He was originally supposed to come today, but sudden urgent business prevented him from doing so.

“To introduce to me, Miss Carol?”

“I wanted to tell you in person, so I didn’t write it in the letter.”

“I see.”

“How about arranging a meeting before you leave? I’d like to introduce him to you.”

For Carol, Lord Elais was the adult she trusted most after her parents, so she really wanted to introduce the Duke to him.

It was clearly different from introducing him to her siblings.

Carol, unable to overcome her shyness, lowered her eyes.

“I’d be more than happy to make time for that.”

Because of this, she failed to notice Lord Elais’s expression becoming subtle.

“Introduce to me? What have I done to deserve such honor?”

As Lord Elais humbly waved his hands, Carol said firmly.

“It’s a connection I wouldn’t have made if it weren’t for you, Lord.”

Carol deliberately didn’t mention who the person was beforehand. She placed her hand on top of his wrinkled one and continued in a serious tone.

“I really want to introduce someone important to me to you, Lord.”

Seeming to be moved by Carol’s earnest words, Lord Elais nodded slowly.

Although it was an unexpected schedule, there was no reason to refuse it.

Lord Elais couldn’t help but surrender to Carol’s upward gaze. Her look always reminded him of his own daughter.

“Alright.”

Lord Elais replied, taking a sip of water. Carol’s expression brightened at his answer.

“Really?”

“I’m sure whoever Miss Carol has chosen must be a good person.”

At Lord Elais’s kind words, Carol was about to naturally share the good points about the Duke, but Dylan, who had been sitting quietly across from them, interrupted the conversation.

“When are you meeting?”

“Huh?”

Carol looked at Dylan with a puzzled face. He had a very serious expression.

“Can’t I come too?”

Dylan asked again to make his intentions clear.

“You’ll see him at the appointment ceremony anyway, won’t you?”

Carol asked without much thought, but Dylan flinched unnecessarily.

Carol wasn’t there when Dylan returned the sword. And there hadn’t been a chance to talk about it afterward, so the sword hadn’t even been mentioned.

“…I want to see him before that.”

“You want to see him?”

“…I have something personal to say.”

“Oh? If you have something to say, I could pass it on for you.”

Carol suggested this thinking she could relay the message for Dylan, who would be busy with work for a while, if it was urgent.

“No…”

“Hmm?”

Feeling unnecessarily guilty, Dylan scratched the back of his head and smiled to avoid arousing Carol’s suspicion.

“It’s not some weird misunderstanding this time!”

At first, Carol hadn’t thought much of it, but the moment Dylan specifically mentioned it, suspicion welled up in her mind.

“What’s going on?”

Dylan swallowed hard at Carol’s pressing.

He could give up something like a sword for his sister’s sake anytime.

But if everything was a misunderstanding, wouldn’t it be okay to get the sword back?

“Well…”

Every time he thought about not having the sword, moments of jealousy, envy, and resentment towards Kevin, who had a sword, flashed through his mind. Recalling the happy moments spent with the sword, he opened his mouth solemnly.

“Then, is my sword still… ugh…”

Dylan muttered in a bitter voice. But before he could finish, Kevin elbowed him in the solar plexus.

“It’s nothing. I just want to apologize separately too.”

“…”

“I was rude because of a misunderstanding, after all.”

“…”

“I can’t ask Sis to deliver an apology.”

“…”

“Right, Dylan?”

“…Yeah.”

Dylan reluctantly agreed, following Kevin’s cue.

“It’s nice to see you’re still getting along so well.”

Lord Elais, who had been watching the three with pleasure, said with a smile.

Dylan felt extremely wronged, but he wasn’t tactless enough to add another word here.

“So when would be a good time?”

“Since you’re here for the appointment ceremony, it would be better for Miss Carol to set the schedule.”

“Is that alright?”

Carol was already mentally selecting a date for arranging the meeting.

Watching the excited Carol, Elais casually probed.

“The person you’re meeting seems to be very busy.”

“He says he’s busy because of the business he’s doing these days.”

Elais tried to guess who Carol was meeting based on the fragmentary information she provided.

“I’m really looking forward to it.”

Carol beamed.

Then, as if suddenly remembering something she had forgotten while greeting them, she clapped her hands and said,

“Oh right, I’ve booked accommodation closer to the capital instead of near Sertborough.”

“You didn’t have to do that.”

“I thought it would be more convenient for you to come and go. And there are also some things I’d like to ask your advice on.”

“Advice?”

“It’s a long story, but to put it briefly, I’ve become a guardian to a child.”

“My goodness. It seems there’s a lot of new information I haven’t received in letters until now.”

“I wanted to tell you everything in person when we met.”

“I see.”

Carol was planning to seek Lord Elais’s opinion about Benjamin. While she had decided to become a guardian, she firmly believed that Lord Elais’s experience as a guardian to many would be of great help, given her own inexperience.

As Carol was mentally organizing how to schedule everything, Elais slightly revealed the burden he had felt since carefully broaching the subject.

“This old man’s whim is taking up your time, Miss Carol. Please, at least let me pay for the meal.”

“I just want to treat you, that’s all.”

Lord Elais spoke with a concerned voice, seemingly troubled not just by the restaurant but also by the hotel reservation.

“I’m worried that Miss Carol might be overextending herself with such generous hospitality…”

“It’s nothing compared to all you’ve done for me! Besides, I was able to get the accommodation much cheaper than expected because of a connection with the person I want to introduce you to.”

Despite Carol’s enthusiastic explanation, Elais still looked perplexed, but he had no choice but to nod at Carol’s insistence not to worry.

“Father?”

An unfamiliar man’s voice was heard from behind. The Langer family members simultaneously turned their gaze towards the source of the sound.

Lord Elais naturally raised his head and gestured to the man.

He seemed to be the owner of the empty seat.

“Ah, you’re here.”

“This is a nice restaurant.”

The man looked around with a slightly puzzled expression.

He knew that the family they sponsored had come to the capital for the knight appointment ceremony, but even so, this restaurant seemed too fancy for commoners.

“Introduce yourself first.”

Few families would understand as well as the Elais family that even after obtaining a knighthood and a baronet title, one is still very different from true nobility.

“Hello. I’m Jack Elais. Sorry for the late introduction.”

“Nice to meet you. I’m Carol Langer, who has been indebted to Lord Elais. Behind me are my brothers, Kevin and Dylan.”

After greeting the two who slightly raised their hands in greeting as Carol called their names, Jack finally sat down.

“I checked several times to make sure I had the right restaurant. Thank you for such generous hospitality.”

The mild-looking man said with a smile. He was a man with gentle eyes and noticeable reddish curly hair.

While not strikingly handsome, he had a likable face that could easily win the favor of those around him.

He also resembled Lord Elais enough to remind one of his younger days.

“I heard you’ve been attending the swordsmanship academy.”

“Yes. I’m just a rookie who knows nothing, having just graduated. It’s an honor to be with the knights who will soon receive royal appointment.”

At Jack’s eloquence, Kevin and Dylan’s shoulders rose high with pride.
