Chapter 74
Before our relationship could become clearer, I had to withdraw. This man and I are different, but we endured and overcame clear pain. Whatever changes come, we will eventually endure them again.
“Sarin.”
Owen called her name softly, prompting her to respond.
“Yes.”
Her eyelids trembled, understanding the implied meaning of opening her eyes. Soon, Owen sent her a satisfied glance through his golden eyes.
Before darkness fell, the last light of the bright afternoon illuminated his face.
“I’ve been wanting to ask something.”
The hands still clasped over the gun felt burdensome. The fact that the barrel was pointing at his face made it even more unsettling. She tensed momentarily, fearing that she might accidentally pull the trigger. She realized she needed to stay alert, as this dangerous object could be used contrary to her will.
“What….”
“Why is Pavel the only alternative for you over there?”
It wasn’t easy to understand. She didn’t even try to understand. She had never even dreamed about what he was saying.
“Owen.”
“It’s strange. We are quite similar, aren’t we? Maybe even here.”
As the barrel slowly descended under Owen’s force, it eventually touched somewhere on her chest. Sarin’s upper body bent forward. Without realizing it, she knelt in front of Owen to avoid pulling the trigger.
Placing the barrel in the desired direction, Owen smiled with a dangerous expression.
“Why are you only thinking about Pavel?”
Pavel’s name spilled from Owen’s lips like a growl, causing Sarin to take a deep breath.
“Perhaps I’m better than Pavel. I am quite…”.
As Owen momentarily paused to choose his words, Sarin swallowed her scream internally. When he opened his mouth again, Sarin stifled her scream internally.
“You’re interested in him. Much more than you imagine.”
Sarin’s mouth fell open.
With a menacing smile, he looked deep into her crimson insides without concealing his intentions.
“I told you to say what you want. You should have said it then.”
“Uh…”
“If you can’t understand, I’ll have to feed it to you myself.”
He coaxes her to eat it forcibly. As she holds the trembling barrel against her firm chest, she feels her body quiver. As she stares at his sinister face, the light pouring in through the cracks makes his tears look like tears flooding his eyes.
“You don’t understand.”
Sarin barely uttered her trembling voice. The most terrifying and merciless man she has ever met is now offering her what he wants most.
It was like the devil was reaching out, offering a lure that could not be refused, promising to sell her everything, even her soul.
He was presenting her with an irresistibly charming offer that she could never refuse, shaking it in front of her.
When Owen let go of the gun, finally, her hand also relaxed. The gun slipped from his thigh to the floor.
Sarin bit her lip, as if to contain the words he just said, and shook her head. Every time she did, tears welled up and streamed down her cheeks.
“Do you know what you just said?”
Sarin asked him again, as he chuckled lazily. Owen’s lips parted arrogantly.
“You said you would give my liver to the child you want to save.”
“Oh my god…”
Sarin covered her mouth with one hand and swallowed her scream. Owen reached out and caught a tear falling from under her chin.
“Pavel wouldn’t work anyway. It takes a while for the effects of the drug to wear off.”
So, Owen hammered in that she had no alternative.
“Uh…”
“I am healthy, and I don’t do much harm to my body. I quit smoking and drinking as well.”
“Owen…”
“I’ll be more appealing to you.”
He raised the topic as if it were something he had thought about long ago. He was informing Sarin of a conclusion he had already reached in his mind. His hand under her chin soon enveloped her face.
Sarin, led by him, leaned against Owen’s chest with both hands. She could feel the warmth of his body and the steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath her palms.
“Why… why Owen, why would you…”
As her lips trembled and tried to form words, his thumb, which was stroking her cheek, gently lifted the corner of her mouth. His face turned into a forced smile.
“It’s the fastest way.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I know what people want the most. I also know how to increase their sense of obligation.”
That’s why he became the owner of Eden City. He provided pleasure by pressing people’s innermost desires and switches.
Sarin’s wet eyelashes blinked slowly.
Unable to hold back any longer, Owen’s lips touched her eyelids. The sensation of his tongue licking her pupils as it had once before sent a shiver down her spine.
He hugged her, causing her to tremble, as he licked the salty liquid. Slowly pulling his lips away, he embraced the trembling Sarin like a fragile animal and said,
“I’ll probably be better than anyone else. I’ll be your excellent alternative.”
Owen was reaching out much further than Sarin had imagined, with a heart so huge that she could hardly dare to hold his hand. She swallowed her breath.
“He’s not that kind of person.”
The Owen she knew wasn’t this kind of man. Hearing Sarin’s trembling voice, he flashed a willing smile right in front of her.
“Who made me into this person? If you’d rescued me, you’d have to take responsibility.”
He wished for the price of diving into the water. He was ready to accept the most severe consequences. Owen wouldn’t miss the person who had extended a hand to his death.
To have what she wanted most, she had to give Owen what he wanted most. It was a simple calculation. He didn’t know anything simpler than this.
“Lies. You knew how to swim.”
In the end, he embraced her. Sarin completely leaned into his arms, exhaling gently only when she was nestled against him. He liked her small, soft body in his embrace, different from when he hugged dogs.
They were thinking differently.
Even as he held her, Sarin’s mind was filled with worry. She was afraid that things would unfold differently from what she had imagined. But the firmness of his embrace made her want to stay like this. The desire to pretend ignorance surged up like a dagger in her mind.
Knowing this, Owen’s fingers rested on Sarin’s small nape. It was a touch that didn’t tolerate futile thoughts.
She resisted the urge to cling tighter to him, knowing she might not want to let go once she did.
Her flushed face didn’t easily calm down. Her eyes were swollen, and her face was puffy, making it hard for her to open her eyes more than halfway. Tears flowed incessantly, soaking Owen’s shoulder before he finally let go of Sarin.
Even when she tried to stop, the tears flowed uncontrollably like a burst stream. Owen gently patted her forehead.
Tears of bright redness flowed down Owen’s cheek, clear and distinct.
“I’ve never heard of anyone crying to death. But now, it seems possible.”
His cheeks were hot. Each time tears brushed his cheek, Sarin’s hand, trying to wipe them away reflexively, was caught by Owen.
“Stop crying.”
“I want to, but I can’t stop.”
One of his shoulders was completely soaked. As tears streamed down again when she blinked, Owen sighed awkwardly.
“Don’t touch. Before I tie it up.”
Feeling his grip on her wrist tighten briefly before releasing, Owen licked his lips. Then he disappeared into the dressing room.
As she tried to blink her eyes again with her freed hand, the thought of being tied up came to mind, so she simply turned her head and buried her eyes in the pillow. She didn’t know why she felt so miserable. She couldn’t remember how to stop crying, like a child.
She felt a mixture of anxiety, indescribable fear, relief, and the sudden surge of Owen’s feelings pouring out onto her chest.
“Haa… Ha… Haa…”
Taking advantage of his absence, she took a deep breath. It seemed like her rapidly beating heart would calm down only then.
Slightly turning her body while lying at the end of the bed, she was startled to open her eyes to the warm and soft tongue licking her face. But the other party, Pink, didn’t care and covered her whole face with his damp and gentle tongue.
“P-Pink.”
Pink, the most adorable one, looked at Sarin with innocent eyes.
Elegantly placing his front paws on the bed and leaving his buttocks on the floor, Pink sniffed Sarin’s nose and licked her face. At some point, tears entered his eyes. Before she could stop feeling sorry for herself, Owen reappeared.
“I told you not to touch, but you were touching with your tongue.”
He held a cold, wet towel in his hand.
As Owen approached, Pink quietly lowered his front paws under the bed and gently moved aside. Even Owen found it amusing and smiled silently.
