Betrayal

Chapter 99 – Betrayal

The woman took the dagger from Tu Ran’s hand.

She waved it slightly.

“I’ll use this.”

Tu Ran felt a surge of gratitude and took the curved blade. “Thanks.”

“You’re welcome.”

The woman walked to the other corner.

Everyone pressed tightly against the carriage walls, minimizing their presence while drawing their blades and swords, ready for action.

Tu Ran stepped back a few paces, standing at the end of the carriage.

She gave a slight nod.

The burly man extended his arm and suddenly yanked open the carriage door.

The aliens that had been relentlessly banging against the door suddenly stumbled forward, falling to the ground.

Before they could get up, the aliens behind them trampled over them, charging out.

Layer upon layer, seemingly endless.

The ones at the bottom had their skulls crushed, brain matter mixing with blood, smearing the floor.

As Tu Ran anticipated, the aliens focused solely on rushing towards her, completely ignoring the four humans hidden in their midst.

Tu Ran raised the curved blade, waiting for their approach.

Blood sprayed from severed limbs and remains.

Corpses piled up like mountains, layer upon layer.

The aliens swarming from all sides completely surrounded Tu Ran, enveloping her tightly.

“Shunk!”

A row of alien heads rolled to the ground simultaneously.

Blood spurted out in a torrent.

An alien, stepping on its companion’s corpse, leaped into the air, aiming to knock Tu Ran down from above.

Tu Ran bent her knees slightly and leapt up, slicing horizontally with the curved blade. A cold gleam flashed, leaving a trail of blood spraying into the air, splattering onto the ceiling of the carriage and covering the surveillance camera.

The Federation staff member, who had been intently watching the camera, was so startled by the sudden splash of blood that he jerked back in fright.

He belatedly realized that he was sitting at a computer desk, not actually present at the scene.

He muttered under his breath, “Impressive.”

All the aliens targeted Tu Ran, allowing the others hidden behind the door to slip into the third carriage.

The people in the second carriage had no idea what was happening outside.

The blood from the aliens had smeared the glass, turning it a deep red, obscuring everything.

All they knew was that the aliens had suddenly disappeared.

The aliens that had been banging on the door were gone.

They tried calling out through the gap, “Is it the rescue team? Are you here to save us?”

“Yes, we’re here. Open the door quickly,” the burly man said, glancing at Tu Ran’s fight and speaking quickly.

The people inside didn’t open the door immediately but cautiously asked, “Are any of you injured?”

“No!” the burly man shouted impatiently, “Open the door quickly, our teammate is buying us time.”

The door remained closed.

“You should stay in that carriage. We don’t need you here right now.”

The burly man instantly became furious, pounding the glass door with his fist. “What kind of nonsense is that? I risked my life to come here for you! Wasn’t it for you bastards?! And now you’re saying you don’t need us? Where were you earlier? We helped you distract the aliens, and now you say you don’t need us? Do you think I have a good temper?”

The people inside shouted back, “Who knows if you’ve been infected by the aliens?! What if you’re infected and not admitting it?! Letting you in would be irresponsible to everyone in this carriage! Anyway, you’re so strong, the aliens can’t hurt you! Just hold on for another half hour, and we’ll reach Mitney Square.”

“F*ckers!” the burly man pounded on the glass door again.

The door creaked under the force.
