Chapter 9 – Holographic Recording Ring

 

A green checkmark appeared on the black electronic screen.

“Correct answer, esteemed pioneer Tu Ran. Please proceed to the medical department for treatment.”

“Wishing you good health.”

Tu Ran was still in a state of bewilderment.

Had she passed so easily?!

Behind her, the mechanical voice sounded again.

“Correct answer, esteemed pioneer Xi Chunzhi. Please proceed to meeting room 721 in the administrative building. You need to attend a meeting.”

“Wishing you success in your work.”

Xi Chunzhi walked over quickly, habitually raising her arm to put it around Tu Ran’s shoulder, but then she noticed how dirty she was and looked at her with disdain. “Be more careful next time. I don’t even know where to put my hands.”

Tu Ran didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She nodded, “Got it.”

The two walked side by side, and Xi Chunzhi glanced at her, asking, “Are you hurt?”

It wasn’t surprising she couldn’t tell. Tu Ran’s entire body looked like it was covered in green asphalt; no one could see what was underneath.

It was a miracle the machine could recognize her in this condition.

“Yes, just a minor injury,” Tu Ran said, rubbing the back of her head, which hurt a little.

The injury wasn’t hers.

Since she had woken up, the back of her head had been in pain.

Tu Ran guessed that the original owner might have died from a blow to the back of the head, and then her own soul ran over from another world to join in the fun.

Xi Chunzhi glanced down at her flashing communicator, “You should get checked out quickly. If you don’t have enough money, use my account. You know my password. Also, give me your holographic recording ring; I’ll take it back for you.”

Tu Ran instinctively touched the bracelet on her wrist.

It was the only ring she had on her entire body.

But how was she supposed to take it off?

There wasn’t even a switch or button on it.

Seeing her hesitating and not taking off the bracelet, Xi Chunzhi impatiently stepped forward, grabbed both sides of the bracelet, and forcefully pulled. The bracelet immediately expanded to twice its original width.

After taking it off, Xi Chunzhi pressed it firmly, and the bracelet returned to its original size.

Had it really been taken off just like that? Tu Ran was dumbfounded.

Xi Chunzhi patted her shoulder. “Don’t worry, if anyone dares to mock you this time, I’ll beat them up for you.”

Mock her? Mock her for what? What did this holographic recording ring have to do with it? And who would mock her?

Tu Ran was very confused, but to Xi Chunzhi, her expression looked like she had been crushed by reality and had no more desires in life.

She couldn’t help but pat Tu Ran’s shoulder and comfort her, “Be good, go get treated first. After that, I’ll pick you up and we’ll have fried chicken at my place. It’s naturally sourced chicken, much better than those synthetic ones.”

It seemed that in this world, even getting a portion of pure natural fried chicken wasn’t easy.

Tu Ran nodded, “I got it. You should go to your meeting.”

She had already seen Xi Chunzhi’s communicator flashing dozens of times; there was probably something urgent.

Xi Chunzhi nodded and quickly left.

Tu Ran stood there for a moment, watching the flow of people passing by. She spotted a limping person walking by and decided to follow him at a reasonable distance.

She didn’t know the way to the medical department, but following this person would surely be correct.

Upon reaching the medical department, guided by a nurse, Tu Ran underwent a full body examination and was then placed in a nutrition pod.

Thick magenta liquid filled the entire cylindrical glass tank. While Tu Ran was still wondering if she could afford the medical fees, her clothes were removed, her body was washed clean, she was fitted with a breathing mask, and then she was placed into the glass tank.
