Chapter 89 – You Attack, I Defend
She could only rely on her own exploration.
“You attack, I defend,” Xie Xu said, raising his sword and assuming a stance.
Tu Ran raised an eyebrow, “Then I won’t hold back.”
With that, she charged forward with her sword.
The sharp tip of the long sword aimed straight at Xie Xu’s face.
When it was just a foot away, Xie Xu dodged it skillfully.
Tu Ran quickly shifted to another angle, aiming at his arm.
Xie Xu turned his sword, blocking hers at a very precise angle halfway through.
No matter how Tu Ran tried to lift it, she couldn’t.
Frustrated, Tu Ran had to find another way.
She lowered her body, her sword scraping against Xie Xu’s blade, producing a piercing sound that cut through the air.
The spectators quickly covered their ears.
Even Tu Ran found the sound extremely grating.
Breaking free from Xie Xu’s hold, Tu Ran stepped back, bent her knees slightly, pushed off with her toes, and leaped towards Xie Xu, aiming a slash at his head.
“Clang!”
The two swords collided, the impact traveling up both their arms, leaving Tu Ran’s arm numb and devoid of feeling.
“How do you defend so impenetrably?” Tu Ran asked, shaking her arm to relieve the numbness.
“Now it’s my turn,” Xie Xu replied.
“What?” Tu Ran’s eyes widened.
Her answer came in the form of Xie Xu’s gleaming blade.
Tu Ran quickly raised her sword to block the overhead strike.
As the swords clashed, Tu Ran breathed a sigh of relief.
If she hadn’t blocked it, her brains might have been splattered all over.
But before she could fully exhale, her heart raced again.
Xie Xu had already adjusted his angle, slashing horizontally.
Tu Ran immediately blocked again.
Xie Xu’s moves were swift and fluid.
All Tu Ran could see was a flurry of blades coming at her from all directions.
She relied on her body’s instinctive reactions to avoid these deadly attacks, dodging left and right, jumping up and down.
She wielded her sword with such intensity, creating an impenetrable defense, fearing that any slip would allow Xie Xu’s blade to penetrate her, going in white and coming out red.
She had only one thought in her mind.
This is a sword!
A sword!
One slash could be fatal!
If Xie Xu couldn’t get her to the hospital in time, she would bleed out and die on the spot.
With this belief, she remained in a state of constant tension.
The longer they fought, the more Xie Xu was impressed by her.
Although she had no real technique and was just flailing around, she managed to block every one of his attacks.
It seemed that only in life-threatening situations could she fully tap into her potential.
After what seemed like an eternity, Xie Xu finally stopped his assault.
“Being able to last twenty minutes against me, not bad,” Xie Xu said, generously praising her.
Tu Ran almost rolled her eyes.
Only twenty minutes?
Those twenty minutes felt longer than a year to her.
It was an endless nightmare, with no end in sight.
Collapsing to the ground, Tu Ran waved her hand, “I really can’t go on. I need a break. You can practice by yourself, or better yet, you can spar with them.”
Tu Ran gestured broadly towards the spectators.
Someone please come up and save her.
She would be eternally grateful and never forget their kindness.
But no one came forward.
The spectators lowered their heads even more.
They didn’t want to risk getting their arms or legs broken and being carried off.
Xie Xu glanced between Tu Ran and his group of subordinates.
Suddenly, he said, “One by one, come up and spar with her.”
“What?” Tu Ran exclaimed in surprise, with a hint of joy.
“What?!” the spectators echoed, their voices filled with concern for their fate.
