Chapter 84 – Cut the Weeds and Dig Up the Roots
From Tu Ran’s angle, she could see the veins bulging on his forehead and the teeth grinding in frustration.
He was not willing to give in.
“I remember that as long as both parties voluntarily enter the ring and there are witnesses, life and death don’t matter during the match. So whether you live or die now is up to me,” Tu Ran whispered in his ear, her voice low enough for only the two of them to hear.
Lu Huaiwei panicked.
He sensed the killing intent.
“I conce—”
“Crack.”
Before Lu Huaiwei could finish his words, Tu Ran twisted his neck to the side, breaking it.
The crowd below gasped, staring at her in shock and fear.
It was supposed to be an ordinary sparring match, yet this woman had twisted her opponent’s neck.
Tu Ran climbed off him and stood up, brushing off imaginary dust from her hands.
Lu Huaiwei refused to submit to her, but he couldn’t defeat her.
If he held a grudge, he wouldn’t confront her directly but would likely sabotage her from the shadows.
Better to deal with him now and save trouble later.
Tu Ran stepped down from the ring, and Ding Naiqing swallowed hard, giving her a thumbs-up. “Sister Ran, you’re amazing.”
He had been worried for nothing.
Although breaking her opponent’s neck didn’t violate federal laws, Tu Ran was still “invited” by the Monitoring Department to their center.
The one taking her statement was the same white-haired man who had interrogated her yesterday. He called himself “Iron-fisted Inspector” back in the day—his name was Li Fuyang.
“It’s you again, young lady,” Li Fuyang said, adjusting his glasses.
People like him who still wore glasses were rare nowadays. Most elderly folks used them, while younger people had chips implanted in their eyes—a five-minute procedure that ensured perfect vision forever.
“Um… I didn’t break any federal laws this time, right?” Tu Ran asked.
“No, you didn’t, but we still need to take a statement.”
“Ask away, I’ll cooperate fully.”
Li Fuyang glanced up at her, then looked back down, writing something in his notebook.
There weren’t many people like him who still wrote on paper.
But he hadn’t asked any questions yet, so why was he already writing? Tu Ran wondered.
At that moment, the first sentence in Li Fuyang’s notebook read: “Pioneer Tu Ran, good attitude, cooperative, respectful to elders, though pretending, does it well.”
“He entered the ring voluntarily?” Li Fuyang asked.
“Yes, everyone present can testify to that. Ding Naiqing even tried to stop him, but he was pushed aside and insulted.”
Li Fuyang nodded and continued, “He didn’t surrender during the match?”
“No,” Tu Ran said without changing her expression, “I asked him if he wanted to surrender, but he didn’t respond and even tried to resist, so I had no choice but to act.”
Tu Ran sighed regretfully.
Li Fuyang glanced at her.
“Don’t try to act in front of me. As a former iron-fisted inspector of the Federation, no subtle expression of yours can escape my eyes!”
Tu Ran could tell he was very proud of his former title, as he mentioned it every time.
“Is the statement done? When can I leave?”
Li Fuyang adjusted his glasses, “You can leave now.”
Tu Ran stood up, “Then I’ll be going. Goodbye, Iron-fisted Inspector.”
Li Fuyang blushed at the title, snapping, “Who told you to call me that?”
