Developing Superpowers in Another World

The Pioneer

Chapter 8 – The Pioneer

She didn’t have any memories of the original owner and couldn’t answer the questions on the electronic screen!

Tu Ran realized the seriousness of the situation and also that she might not be able to tell anyone about her amnesia for the time being.

The team moved forward at a steady pace. Tu Ran, pretending to be casual, asked Xi Chunzhi, “What do you think my question was?”

“That depends on what you wrote before you went in. How could I guess?” Xi Chunzhi showed no interest in this.

Tu Ran turned her head away awkwardly, but she had gathered another crucial point.

It turned out that the questions on the electronic screen were written by herself.

But what good did that do her? Tu Ran’s face fell. How could she guess the questions that the original owner had written?

Thinking back on her near-death experience today, Tu Ran looked up to the sky in despair.

Why? Why was her crossing so difficult?!

The “shield” was getting closer and closer, now only five people away from her.

No one could help her. Tu Ran decided to give up.

She turned to look at Xi Chunzhi, who had started chewing gum behind her, and asked, “If I can’t answer the question and haven’t mutated, what will happen?”

Upon hearing this, Xi Chunzhi raised an eyebrow. “You don’t even know that?”

Tu Ran’s heart tightened, and she opened her mouth to explain, but Xi Chunzhi interrupted her. “Well, you never cared about these things.”

Tu Ran secretly let out a sigh of relief and gave an awkward smile.

“The situation you described is very rare. After all, you uploaded the questions yourself. If you haven’t been possessed, how could you not answer them? Of course, if you hit your head and became stupid, that’s another matter,” Xi Chunzhi said blandly.

“What if I really lost my memory from hitting my head?” Tu Ran asked weakly.

“This situation,” Xi Chunzhi spat out her gum and curled her lip, “would probably require connecting to a memory reader to determine if it’s really amnesia.”

A memory reader?

Just hearing the name, Tu Ran knew what it was.

It seemed her fate wasn’t too bad after all. At worst, she’d be recognized as someone not from this world.

She believed that a highly advanced society would surely have a strong sense of tolerance and would accommodate someone like her.

However, Xi Chunzhi’s next words made her heart skip a beat.

“But unless you’re an important member, it’s unlikely they’d waste the effort on a memory reader. Escorting someone who might be possessed requires manpower and resources. Plus, memory readers are extremely valuable. If the person is already possessed and goes crazy, damaging the machine, the cost would be too great.”

Xi Chunzhi shrugged. “So, people of our level are likely to be disposed of directly.”

Tu Ran’s heart sank into an icy abyss.

The “shield” had already reached Xie Xu. A fluorescent green light scanned Xie Xu from head to toe.

A mechanical, cold voice sounded.

“Senior Researcher, Xie Xu, welcome home.”

“Junior Pioneer, Tu Ran, welcome home.”

Tu Ran wanted to return a polite smile, but the fear of what was about to happen prevented her from even twitching her mouth.

The electronic screen followed its programmed sequence, displaying neat white text on a black screen, resembling an inscription on a tombstone.

When Tu Ran saw the words, she was momentarily taken aback.

“My favorite food is:”

The original owner setting such a question seemed a bit too casual.

Tu Ran didn’t dare to relax. Recalling the woman behind her mentioning “long-awaited fried chicken,” she took a deep breath and said, “Fried chicken.”
