Chapter 72 – News Headlines
The elevator’s alert suddenly sounded, and the doors slowly opened.
“Huh? This isn’t our floor,” someone said, puzzled.
“I’m getting off,” Tu Ran raised her hand weakly from the corner. “Excuse me, please let me through.”
The group of intern doctors, each a head taller than her, finally noticed her in the corner and made way for her.
Tu Ran squeezed her way out with difficulty.
As soon as the elevator doors closed, chatter erupted inside.
“I saw her name tag. Her name is Tu Ran!”
“Tu Ran? The same Tu Ran we’ve been talking about?”
“Yes, that’s her. I saw her during my rounds today. She went to the ward to bow and apologize to those seven guys one by one, which almost drove them mad.”
The elevator burst into laughter.
“Attacking the heart, haha.”
“She’s so cool, I’m in love!”
“She stood there quietly the whole time and didn’t interrupt our conversation.”
“Socially anxious person, she’s a little cute.”
Everyone had something to say.
Tu Ran just felt embarrassed.
Hearing about her own heroic deeds from others’ mouths was quite an odd sensation.
The cool breeze blowing in her face dispelled the heat from her cheeks.
She walked to the hover rail station to wait for the train.
At 12:30, the train arrived on time.
She boarded, watching the tall buildings flash by as they receded into the distance.
By one o’clock in the afternoon, she was back at her place.
She heated up leftovers from last night, cooked a portion of rice, and ate slowly, savoring every bite while catching up on the past few days’ news from the Federation.
The news about the arrival of the second Threshold in Reigaken State dominated the headlines across major media outlets.
This sparked a series of questions and a wave of discussions:
[What will happen to the citizens of Reigaken State?]
[Can the constructed traps catch the aliens?]
[Will the Federal Government help relocate the citizens of Reigaken State?]
[Wealthy families have already begun moving out of Reigaken State.]
Similar news reports abounded, with the Federal Government’s stance being the focal point of media attention.
However, so far, the Federal Government had not issued any response.
Relocating an entire state’s population was impractical due to the enormous costs involved, which the Federal Government was unlikely to bear voluntarily.
The traps set up at the Threshold in Reigaken State were established precisely because the state was sparsely populated and relatively poor.
The concerns of the few held little weight.
Tu Ran had a strong feeling that the Federal Government would not bear the costs of relocating the citizens of Reigaken State. They would instead reinforce the traps and assure the public that the alien species would not escape.
Then, they would bribe the media to widely broadcast this message, and the public would soon believe it.
This was a common tactic of the Federal Government.
After leisurely finishing her meal and cleaning up the dishes, it was already two o’clock.
Tu Ran began preparing to go to the Ansa Black Market.
There were many black markets in the Federation, with each of the forty-eight states having several well-known ones. The Federation’s central city had countless black markets.
Ansa Black Market was the largest in the central city of the Federation.
It got its name from its original leader, Ansa.
Tu Ran packed a backpack, including a set of disguise clothing from the original owner’s wardrobe.
She left her work communicator on the table and took another private communicator hidden in the corner of the wardrobe. With her backpack ready, she headed to the hover rail station to wait for the train.
