Chapter 70 – Interrogation
“One against seven, huh? This girl has some skills. Which department do you work in?”
The person interrogating her was an elderly man wearing black-rimmed glasses with a few strands of white hair on his head. Tu Ran noticed his name tag: Li Fuyang, Monitoring Department.
“Pioneer Team,” Tu Ran replied.
“Oh, the Pioneer Team, no wonder,” Li Fuyang adjusted his glasses and looked at the documents in his hand. “They started it?”
“Yes,” Tu Ran nodded.
“Ridiculous, a group of men ganging up on a woman.”
Tu Ran heard him mutter under his breath. If her hearing wasn’t so good, she might have missed it.
This old man was quite interesting.
“How badly are they hurt?” Tu Ran asked politely.
Li Fuyang looked at her over his glasses, “You’re quite ruthless. Two of them have concussions, one has a cerebral hemorrhage, one has a fractured spine, one has a broken leg, one has a fractured wrist, and the last one landed face-first, breaking his nose. Oh, and that big sniper rifle you used? It’s completely dismantled now.”
“That serious?” Tu Ran lowered her head, fidgeting with her fingers, looking remorseful. “I was just defending myself. It was a group against just me, so I might have overexerted myself in the heat of the moment.”
“Young lady, don’t think that just because I look kind, I’m easy to fool. Back in the day, I was known as the iron-fisted inspector, Li Fuyang. Ask around, everyone knows me. So don’t try to act pitiful here, it won’t work. I can see right through it.”
This old man wasn’t one to be swayed by emotions.
Tu Ran dropped the act, leaned back, and looked at him. “So what are you going to do with me?”
She had promised Xie Xu to go to the black market that afternoon. If she got confined, her plans would be ruined.
Of course, the fine would be another problem—she was broke.
“I can’t say for sure, it depends on the higher-ups,” Li Fuyang adjusted his glasses. “Just wait and see. You’re with the Pioneer Team, and the new Federal laws favor you guys. The surveillance footage clearly shows they started it, so even if you’re fined, it won’t be too severe.”
According to the new Federal laws, the safety of pioneers was prioritized above all else.
“Oh, okay.” Tu Ran felt a bit more at ease.
The notice came quickly, fining her 500 Federal credits as compensation for the medical expenses of the five men.
Considering she had fought seven people, 500 credits wasn’t much.
Tu Ran paid the fine without hesitation. To express her apologies, she even made a trip to the medical department to apologize to the seven men in person.
Zhou Ming was the one with a cerebral hemorrhage and concussion.
After an hour in a nutrition pod, he was out of life-threatening danger and transferred to a regular hospital bed, along with his teammates.
If they had been injured on duty, they would have been allowed to stay in the nutrition pod until fully recovered for free.
However, since their injuries resulted from an unauthorized brawl—a group of men ganging up on one woman—only Zhou Ming was allowed an hour in the nutrition pod, just enough to get him out of danger. The rest of the time, he had to pay for himself.
Tu Ran’s 500-credit fine couldn’t even cover a fraction of that cost.
“Guard Zhou, I’m sorry.” Tu Ran bowed deeply at his bedside.
Zhou Ming gritted his teeth in anger, but he couldn’t stand up; otherwise, he would have tried to fight her again.
“Guard Wang, I’m sorry.” Tu Ran moved to the next bed and bowed to the man with the broken nose.
Why would she need to apologize 🙄
Well, she still mocking him implicitly by saying, ‘Guard Zhou’
