Chapter 7 – Alien Intruder
The man on the stretcher blurted out, “My birthday.”
“X”
The red error mark on the screen was glaringly obvious, followed by an overwhelming alarm sound.
“Alien intruder detected, alien intruder detected…”
The mechanical voice coldly and relentlessly repeated, causing a commotion inside the glass dome.
Tu Ran was shocked, bewilderedly looking around. What’s going on?!
Xi Chunzhi had already positioned herself in front of Tu Ran, pulling her back while warily eyeing the man on the stretcher.
Tu Ran followed her gaze and saw something that made her blood run cold.
The “man” with the severed leg on the stretcher stood up.
The previously empty left leg quickly sprouted a thick, white, writhing tentacle. No, wait—Tu Ran looked closer—it wasn’t a leg but writhing white tentacles, one after another, emerging from the torn pants leg.
From the area that should have been a sleeve, more tentacles burst forth, writhing like maggots. The human arm was torn off, falling to the ground and rolling a few times.
Tu Ran’s shock was indescribable.
Help, what is this thing? This thing can possess a human body?!
Tu Ran had a natural, deep-seated fear and disgust for such soft-bodied creatures.
The “shield” was kicked away by the frenzied monster, landing heavily several meters away.
Guards in combat uniforms carrying firearms quickly gathered, firing at the writhing monster.
The monster’s vitality was astonishingly strong; it didn’t die under the barrage of concentrated fire.
Its body seemed like an abyss with suction power, absorbing bullets one by one, causing waves of fleshy ripples.
It grew increasingly agitated, flailing its massive tentacles, indiscriminately sweeping away the guards surrounding it.
Three guards were flung by its tentacles, landing in a parabolic arc, hitting the ground headfirst. Their limbs bent at unnatural angles, lifeless on impact.
“Tu Ran, get back!” Xi Chunzhi shouted, pulling Tu Ran away as the monster’s rage intensified.
Realizing the severity of the situation, Tu Ran followed Xi Chunzhi’s lead, retreating to a safer distance while the scene descended into chaos.
As more guards surrounded the area, the firepower intensified, and the sound of gunfire and ammunition echoed continuously. However, the battle seemed to make little progress.
Tu Ran realized that this octopus monster was on a completely different level from the Gu Diao she had encountered earlier.
Although the Gu Diao was large, it didn’t have an invincible body; a single bomb could blow it to pieces. This octopus monster, on the other hand, had much thicker skin.
The battle was at a stalemate when Tu Ran noticed Xie Xu on the move.
He dismounted the gun from his back and aimed at the struggling monster.
With swift and precise movements, he pulled the trigger.
A blue laser shot out from the gun, piercing through the monster’s skull. In an instant, a fist-sized hole appeared in the monster’s head.
The tentacles that had been flailing wildly in the air fell limply to the ground.
Dead.
Just like that.
Tu Ran stared in astonishment at the laser gun Xie Xu calmly reholstered, swallowing hard.
She wanted one too…
With the octopus monster dead, order quickly resumed inside the glass dome. People in white protective suits arrived to clean up, and the queue reformed.
The “shield” that had been kicked away by the monster emerged unscathed from a corner and resumed its work.
Tu Ran suddenly understood why he dressed like that:
To withstand impacts!
Xi Chunzhi suddenly sighed behind her, “Although the method is a bit crude, it’s effective. Recently, there have been fewer strange incidents in the state.”
What method? Tu Ran’s brain raced, thinking about the octopus monster that had just been shot. A thought suddenly popped into her head.
Could it be that answering the questions on the electronic screen incorrectly indicates the presence of a monster?
Monsters possessing humans might not retain the original human’s memories?
So they can’t answer the questions on the electronic screen.
This method can be used to identify them as impostors instead of the original humans who set out for the monster world.
Tu Ran quickly related this to herself.
Its dangerous then, probably she didn’t hold the main body’ consciousness, yet?
Thanks for the chapter!
