Chapter 6 – Want Some Fried Chicken?
She had come out of that mountain.
Before emerging, she had stayed near the exit, dealing with the chicken spirit monster. During that time, she hadn’t seen anyone else except Xie Xu.
But judging by the length and speed of the queue, these people must have come out just a few minutes before her.
The timeline didn’t match up at all.
Unless…
The “wormhole” in front of the mountain connected to many different places.
Tu Ran realized this.
She was almost certain her guess was correct.
As the line moved steadily forward, someone at the front caught Tu Ran’s attention.
She was like a newborn baby now, carefully observing and learning about everything.
That person was also covered from head to toe.
“Covered from head to toe” had become Tu Ran’s primary impression of this world.
The people here seemed ready for battle at any moment, each equipped with an exoskeleton suit or, at the very least, combat gear.
However, unlike what she had seen before, this person’s armor looked extremely bulky and crude, as if it were hastily assembled from several shields. Even Tu Ran, with no military experience, could see that the armor severely limited the person’s movement.
Tu Ran wondered what the point of such armor was.
Was it just for protection?
More puzzling was the fact that the person held an electronic screen, showing it to each person in line. After examining it, they would let the person pass.
They seemed to exchange a few words, but Tu Ran couldn’t hear what was being said.
Just as it was almost her turn, she felt a tap on her shoulder.
Startled, Tu Ran jumped. Everything that had happened today was too fantastical, and she had been on edge. Being tapped suddenly was enough to scare her.
“Tu Ran, why are you so scared?” a bright female voice called out, full of laughter.
Tu Ran turned to see a young woman with fiery red lips and a bold smile, her helmet tucked under her arm, resembling a biker goddess from her own world.
Tu Ran quickly glanced at the name tag on the woman’s arm: Xi Chunzhi.
Xi Chunzhi looked her up and down, raising an eyebrow. “How did you end up like this?”
She waved her hand in front of her nose, “You smell so bad. Did you spend the night inside one of those monsters’ bellies?”
Tu Ran shook her head and honestly replied, “I blew up a… chicken spirit monster.”
She had tried to find a more specific term to describe the chicken spirit monster but couldn’t, so she had to stick with “chicken spirit monster.”
Luckily, Xi Chunzhi understood.
“Ah, a Gu Diao, no wonder. That thing reeks.” Xi Chunzhi’s expression showed some disgust.
So the chicken spirit monster had such a grand name. Tu Ran learned something new.
Xi Chunzhi clicked her tongue in annoyance, her bright features wrinkling in a frown. Tu Ran looked at her, puzzled.
“Didn’t you keep talking about fried chicken? I ordered some and was waiting to eat it with you when we got back. Now look, no appetite.” Xi Chunzhi said, frustrated.
Tu Ran recalled the sight of the chicken spirit monster being blown to pieces. No fried chicken was fine with her; she wasn’t going to crave it for the rest of her life anyway.
Several more people joined the line behind them, all bearing injuries.
One person was carried in on a stretcher, missing a leg, leaving a trail of blood on the ground.
Given the urgency, that person didn’t queue but was taken directly to the bulky “shield,” where the “shield” held up an electronic screen for him to see.
Because she was close, Tu Ran saw the content on the screen.
“What does 17924 represent?”
