Chapter 58 – Sister Ran is Terrifying
At that moment, a vision flashed before her eyes.
She was lying sprawled on the ground, with nothing above her neck.
Where was her head?
Tu Ran broke out in a cold sweat, immediately realizing that her superpower was at work.
She had foreseen events five to ten minutes into the future.
She was dead.
Her head had been severed and was nowhere to be found.
Tu Ran controlled her racing heart, gripped her machine gun tightly, and scanned her surroundings with heightened vigilance.
Ding Naiqing scratched his head, “I don’t see it—Sister Ran, watch out above!”
With Ding Naiqing’s shout, the already alert Tu Ran reacted swiftly. She raised her machine gun and fired into the sky while rapidly retreating from her position.
A massive maw slammed down where she had been standing, filled with double rows of sharp, jagged teeth like a serrated saw.
Had she been a second slower, she would have been decapitated.
Her rapid firing had all landed inside its soft mouth.
Its scales were impenetrable, impervious to blades or bullets, but its mouth was its only weak spot. This was a lesson Tu Ran had learned over the past few days hunting hook snake aliens.
The hook snake writhed in agony on the ground.
Tu Ran gave it no chance to recover. She leaped onto its body, straddling it.
Pointing her gun at its gaping mouth, she fired repeatedly.
The smell of blood permeated the air, detectable even through her visor.
The hook snake twisted and struggled, its tail, tipped with a spike as thick as a human wrist, aimed at Tu Ran’s head.
It was as if she had eyes in the back of her head. She drew the dagger from her waist, its sharp blade gleaming with a cold light, and slashed at the hook snake’s tail spike, severing it instantly.
The hook snake’s scream pierced the sky.
Ding Naiqing, watching the scene through the drone, took a deep breath.
Sister Ran is so fierce, so cool, so terrifying.
Tu Ran continued to fire for another two minutes.
The hook snake’s body twitched weakly.
Tu Ran looked down at the dying creature. “Do you have a core?”
The hook snake gave no response.
Tu Ran touched its scales and instantly read its memories.
No, there was no mention of a core in its memories.
By now, Tu Ran had mastered this superpower.
She could selectively read the memories of others.
And if she didn’t intend to read memories, even touching wouldn’t trigger it.
Since this hook snake didn’t have a core, she could dispose of it directly.
Yao Bei arrived just in time to see Tu Ran standing up from the snake’s neck.
The hook snake was completely still.
“Sister Yao, I’ve taken care of it.” Tu Ran wiped the dagger clean of the snake’s tail spike and sheathed it at her waist.
Yao Bei was momentarily shocked. This was her first time working with Tu Ran, and she hadn’t expected such strength from someone who seemed so laid-back and unassuming.
“Very well…” Yao Bei nodded, shifting her gaze from the snake’s corpse to Tu Ran’s face. “Are you hurt?”
“No,” Tu Ran shook her head. “Your teammate is dead. You should join our team for the next mission.”
“That’s the only choice now.” Yao Bei sighed.
“Where are we heading next?”
Ding Naiqing had already run down from the rooftop, carrying his equipment. He stood between the two women, smiling brightly.
