Chapter 41 – We’ve Met Before
Tu Ran gave instructions to Ding Naiqing and then looked at the guards in front of her.
“Send two people to find the ones who were interrogated with Naya Rivera.”
Two guards stepped forward. One of them was Liang Feng, who had previously mocked her and Ding Naiqing, and the other was Li Wu.
“We’ll go.”
Tu Ran nodded. “Be careful. When you bring them here, try to keep your distance from them.”
“Yes.”
After the two left, Tu Ran found an empty spot nearby and collapsed onto it.
Her palms were sweaty but very cold.
How could she not be scared? She used to be too afraid to even watch horror movies.
But in that situation, if she had run away in panic, it would have been embarrassing with so many people watching. Since she came to this world as a pioneer, she would inevitably face such situations in the future. She might escape once, but not a second time. It was better to adapt early and prepare for the future.
“Sister Ran! Sister Ran!” Ding Naiqing suddenly called out to her. After looking around and seeing her, he immediately ran over.
“What is it?” Tu Ran stood up, supporting herself on the ground, and patted the dust off her clothes.
“Sister Yao responded to us.”
Sister Yao, also known as Yao Bei, was the default leader of their Fourth Squad.
“She said she hasn’t found any different species on her side yet, but judging from the dead bodies, it’s very likely that the same type of alien parasite is involved. She referenced the information we sent and has started to focus on the search for reptiles and snakes.” Ding Naiqing quickly relayed the contents of the communicator.
“Sister Yao also said that we should keep investigating. She suspects there is more than one alien parasite,” Ding Naiqing said excitedly, looking at Tu Ran. “Sister Ran, Sister Yao’s guess is the same as yours.”
“What else did she say?”
“That’s all,” Ding Naiqing scrolled down, “She just told us to be careful. The rest are clues collected by other groups. Two groups also found traces left by snakes.”
Tu Ran nodded, her expression becoming serious. “Next, we’ll have to see what Li Wu and Lu Yun bring back.”
“By the way, where’s Tubin?”
Tu Ran suddenly realized she hadn’t seen him for a long time.
Wasn’t he supposed to brief them on the situation?
“Could he have run off in fear?” Ding Naiqing also wondered, looking into the distance.
The people who had gathered earlier were still standing far off, but Tubin was nowhere to be seen.
Tu Ran looked at the distant crowd. “Let them disperse. There’s nothing more we can find out now.”
“Okay.” Ding Naiqing ran over to the guards, relayed Tu Ran’s thoughts, then ran back to stand in front of Tu Ran.
The guards were already organizing the crowd to disperse.
Tu Ran looked at Ding Naiqing, crossing her arms. “Why do you keep sticking to me?”
Ding Naiqing scratched his head awkwardly. “Because I feel safe being around you, Sister Ran.”
Tu Ran: “…”
“What makes you think it’s safe to be around me?”
She couldn’t even shoot straight, much less guarantee her own safety.
“Because you’re amazing, Sister Ran,” Ding Naiqing said happily. “During our training, you excelled in many areas. I always looked up to you and often set you as my goal. The fact that I’m still alive now is partly thanks to you.”
