Chapter 4 – Nuclear Radiation Mutant Species
Years of reading sci-fi told her that the more simple and unremarkable something appeared, the less it should be ignored.
As her thoughts wandered, Tu Ran suddenly lost her footing. She stumbled forward three or four steps before barely regaining her balance.
What’s going on?
She anxiously scanned her surroundings. In the distance, the branches of towering trees swayed violently, and dust rose slowly from the ground.
The earth was shaking!
She struggled to keep her balance while glancing back. She heard a sound similar to a helicopter’s roar approaching.
However, the giant ancient trees blocked her view.
Increasingly confused, Tu Ran turned to look at Xie Xu.
Xie Xu seemed unsurprised by this and continued to stride forward steadily.
Tu Ran suddenly sensed something was off.
The direction he was heading was directly toward a vertical mountain face.
Looking up, the desolate, yellowish-brown mountain was hundreds of feet high, blocking out the sky and making the top invisible.
‘Is he planning to climb that?’ Tu Ran swallowed hard.
Even though he was well-equipped, he wasn’t a gecko. Climbing such a steep mountain seemed impossible unless he could fly.
Which might actually be possible.
Realizing this, Tu Ran panicked.
She had no idea how advanced human technology was in this world. Judging by her original self’s boldness in coming to such a place alone, humanity must have great confidence in their technology. Maybe they had even developed flying devices.
Tu Ran urgently called out to Xie Xu’s back, “Take—”
Before she could finish saying “me,” she was once again left speechless.
Xie Xu didn’t fly up using some device as she expected. Instead, he simply stepped into the mountain, and wave-like ripples spread from him. In a second, he was gone without a trace.
What is this? A wormhole?!
Has technology advanced this far?
Before she could marvel at it, the ground shook violently with a “thump thump thump,” as if hundreds of massive beasts were charging toward her, threatening to crush the entire earth.
Even the daylight dimmed a bit.
Tu Ran remembered Xie Xu’s only remark and realized that her bombing of the chicken spirit monster must have attracted other creatures.
Making a quick decision, Tu Ran rushed toward the spot where Xie Xu had disappeared.
As she hit the wall, a white halo enveloped her entirely. The jelly-like substance felt surprisingly comfortable.
The last image in her vision was horrifying.
Dozens of furry monsters were racing towards her. They had bodies like tigers, but their lower faces resembled wild boars with terrifying tusks. The most frightening part was that their upper faces looked human.
What the heck is this?!
Nuclear radiation mutants?!
Once again, Tu Ran’s worldview was shattered.
Fortunately, she ran fast enough.
If she had been a second slower, she would have been devoured by those hybrid monsters.
She only stayed in the jelly-like substance for a moment. The next second, a completely different scene unfolded before her eyes.
She and Xie Xu were now at the center of a semi-circle formation of long guns and cannons, surrounding them on all sides.
Behind the dark barrels were countless vigilant eyes. The soldiers, fully armed, were staring intently at her and Xie Xu. She was sure that at the slightest suspicious movement, they would not hesitate to pull the trigger.
Helicopters circled overhead, ready to unleash a barrage of missiles and blow her to pieces at any moment.
