Chapter 39 – Doubts
Her head had already twisted, hanging limply to the side at a strange angle. A python was halfway out of her gaping mouth, now lifeless. Its length was so great that its head dragged on the ground.
Dark green blood spread beneath their feet, the stench corroding the ground.
The scene was as gruesome as it could be.
“Sister Ran, how did you know she was possessed by an alien species?” Ding Naiqing had somehow already walked over to Tu Ran’s side, his eyes filled with admiration.
Tu Ran looked at the innocent and harmless face in front of her, recalling the ferocity when he had fired the gun earlier, and sighed, marveling at how appearances could be deceiving.
During the fierce battle just now, the suspicious tuft of hair on Naya Rivera had fallen to the ground. Tu Ran bent down, picked it up, and handed it to Ding Naiqing.
“It’s the fur of a Qinglang Mastiff. I saw it on her, and she reeked of blood. When she claimed to be a vegetarian, I suspected she was lying,” Tu Ran released the tuft of hair, letting it fall to the ground. “I wasn’t completely sure she was possessed by an alien species, which is why I held a gun to her back in the end. In very dangerous situations, most alien species can’t remain calm.”
This was also how Xi Chunzhi had tested her in the elevator back then.
Hearing her explanation, Ding Naiqing couldn’t help but give a thumbs up. “Sister Ran, your sense of smell is amazing. I walked past her two or three times and didn’t catch any scent of blood at all. Your observation skills are excellent too; you noticed a single tuft of hair. I always thought only the expert detectives in the Executive Division could observe things so meticulously.”
“And also, you even remembered what Qinglang Mastiff fur looks like. As a fellow pioneer, I don’t even know what a Qinglang Mastiff looks like.” Ding Naiqing’s words were filled with admiration for Tu Ran, like a little fan.
Their conversation was not intentionally kept low, so the surrounding guards also heard it. Any prior disdain they had for Tu Ran vanished.
Someone with such keen observational skills, who could remain extraordinarily calm and shoot in the face of a terrifying scene where the maid’s head twisted 180 degrees, was certainly not an ordinary person.
At least for them, when they first saw that horror movie-like scene, they almost dropped their guns.
Tu Ran merely smiled faintly and said nothing.
At this moment, the two guards who had been sent out to use the thermal scanner to search for other living creatures in the countryside returned.
They had rushed back upon hearing the gunshots and were both nauseated and shocked when they saw the corpse entangled with the snake on the ground.
“You found the alien species so quickly?” exclaimed one of the young guards surnamed Wang. “This time the alien species turned out to be a snake.”
“Did you find anything unusual?” Tu Ran ignored their astonishment.
“No, but we found a Tibetan mastiff’s corpse.”
As he spoke, the young guard played a video from his communicator.
In the corner of a wooden room, there was the mutilated body of a Tibetan mastiff. Its huge head was half-missing, revealing the bloody white brain matter inside, which had flowed all over the place. Its thick back had also been cut open, and the spine was gone.
Just by looking at the picture, Tu Ran could almost smell the nauseating stench of blood.
No wonder Naya Rivera had such a heavy scent on her.
