Qinglang Mastiffs

Chapter 37 – Qinglang Mastiffs

Her tone was calm, lacking the nervousness and stammering that others displayed when questioned by Tu Ran.

Tu Ran nodded and asked, “Mr. Egan has two Tibetan mastiffs, correct?”

This was information she had gathered from questioning others earlier.

“Yes,” Naya Rivera answered without hesitation.

“What breed?” Tu Ran continued.

“Qinglang Mastiffs.”

“Qinglang Mastiffs, huh,” Tu Ran said, appearing to ponder while her gaze fixed on a strand of fur at the edge of Naya’s apron. “Qinglang Mastiffs are quite a rare breed nowadays.”

During her university years, Tu Ran was interested in many things besides her studies, and she had read numerous books about animals.

To her knowledge, Qinglang Mastiff fur is yellow or gray at the base, with black tips.

The strand of fur in front of her was half yellow, half black.

Tibetan mastiffs, especially the Qinglang Mastiff breed, are known for their fierce and violent nature, recognizing no one but their owner.

“Do you like eating raw meat?” Tu Ran suddenly asked.

It was an abrupt question, and Naya Rivera’s kind and gentle smile froze. She stared at Tu Ran, slightly offended, “I do not like meat, and I have never eaten meat.”

Tu Ran raised an eyebrow and looked at a man dressed as a worker standing nearby, “Is she telling the truth?”

The worker, suddenly addressed, seemed confused, “I don’t know her. I don’t know if it’s true.”

Tu Ran then looked at the others, “Who knows her? Is she telling the truth?”

“It’s true,” Tubin answered her question. “She is a vegetarian, she doesn’t kill or eat meat.”

A vegetarian?

Tu Ran smirked inwardly. The heavy scent of blood on her was unmistakable.

However, she had no intention of exposing her immediately. All the evidence so far was circumstantial, and although she was almost certain, there was still one last step to take.

She moved on, casually questioning the next person. Soon, she had finished interrogating the last row.

She walked leisurely towards the back of the crowd.

Naya Rivera was in the last row.

From eleven rows away, Tu Ran looked towards Ding Naiqing at the front.

Ding Naiqing was busy cross-checking the information, trying to find discrepancies.

Perhaps feeling Tu Ran’s intense gaze, he looked in her direction.

Tu Ran raised her hand, first making a gesture for silence, then signaling towards Naya Rivera with her eyes.

Ding Naiqing immediately understood.

But he was smart; instead of looking directly at Naya Rivera, he scanned the area, locking onto her position without drawing attention.

Watching his actions, Tu Ran noted that he wasn’t as naive as he appeared. Thinking further, as Li Wu had said, anyone who had survived in the Threshold until now was no ordinary person.

Indeed, she had heard every word of the guards’ conversation earlier.

Tu Ran wasn’t sure when her hearing had improved, but ever since she inhabited this body, all her physical abilities had been changing, including her hearing and vision.

Her hearing now far surpassed that of an ordinary person.

On the other side, Ding Naiqing quickly finished his current questioning and, pretending to patrol, wandered aimlessly towards the back.

Tu Ran silently positioned herself behind Naya Rivera.

She slowly drew the pistol from her waistband and aimed it at the back of Naya Rivera’s head.

The sound of the gun being cocked echoed in the moment.
