Chapter 31 – Seeking Help from the Experts
Everyone else had thought of the same thing.
“Do we have the information of all the people who appeared in the hardware store from the time the first customer went in yesterday morning until the victim’s body was discovered?” asked a very competent female pioneer in the queue.
“Yes,” the guard nodded, pulling out a dozen or so photos, “there were 23 people. We have tracked them, but 11 are still missing.”
“So many?”
Tu Ran looked in the direction of this low exclamation.
She wanted to see who had voiced what she was thinking.
Oh, it was a young man with delicate features, looking like a college student.
Noticing her gaze, the young man shyly lowered his head and nervously fiddled with his gun.
As expected, he was a young boy, getting embarrassed so easily.
Tu Ran had forgotten that her current body was also that of a 19-year-old girl.
Before looking away, Tu Ran glanced at the name tag on his shoulder: Ding Naiqing.
The guard continued to enlarge other red-marked circles, each image depicting a horrific scene.
The state of the deceased was not uniform.
Some types of aliens liked to eat the internal organs, leaving the bodies they possessed deformed and uneven; some liked to gnaw on human bones, turning the bodies they possessed into a pile of sludge; others preferred to suck out the body’s fluids, including blood and tissue fluid, leaving the bodies they possessed as dry and spongy as dried seaweed.
Some of the onlooking guards couldn’t handle such a strong visual impact and turned away, with some female officers even gagging.
Compared to them, the pioneers remained as steady as ever.
At that moment, Tu Ran felt relieved. During her five years at university, she had seen many anatomical specimens, many of which had been dissected beyond recognition by her seniors. Compared to the current scene, those were not far off.
Thanks to her well-established psychological defenses, Tu Ran stood there as calmly as the other pioneers.
This inevitably made the surrounding guards regard these legendary pioneers with deep respect.
“Given the current situation, tracking these alien species one by one won’t be an easy task,” the competent female pioneer spoke again.
She was already showing signs of becoming the temporary leader of this team.
Tu Ran didn’t care who became the leader; she just wanted to live carefully and cautiously.
She glanced at her name: Yao Bei.
Yao Bei’s fingers quickly operated on the holographic screen, pulling up a local map.
From her earlier impression of the overall map, Tu Ran judged that this local map should be located in the southwestern corner of Reigaken State.
Yao Bei said, “This is the area our fourth group is responsible for. There are five places where alien species have appeared. We need to investigate these locations first. These five addresses are spread out, and since we have ten people, we can form five pairs, each leading ten guards to gather clues at one location.”
After making detailed arrangements, she looked at everyone, “Do you have any other suggestions?”
“No.”
“No.”
Everyone shook their heads.
“Then form your groups freely,” Yao Bei said.
Tu Ran’s eyes lit up. She wanted to be in the same group as Yao Bei because Yao Bei was obviously very competent.
She needed to find an expert to rely on.
Just as she took two steps, someone grabbed her arm.
