Chapter 25 – The Great Species Extinction Plan
If people knew these precious gems were abundant in the Threshold, not only would they not fetch high prices, but securing the Threshold would also become a challenge.
The leaders and tycoons of the Federal Government always thought things through thoroughly.
After clearing the area, they began sending elite troops into the Threshold to explore.
The main task was to search for various ores, especially rare ones.
Ideally, they wanted to bring back a few samples to verify the quality and assess whether it was worth investing manpower and resources there.
Even though the soldiers were well-prepared before each mission, only one in ten would return.
There were many reasons for this. First, the weapons were limited; many powerful modern weapons couldn’t function optimally in the Threshold. Second, although many people set out together, they were transported to different locations once inside, forcing everyone to fight alone and rarely encountering one another.
It seemed like a miracle now that she and Xie Xu managed to find each other last time.
Third, the opening times of the Threshold were too random.
According to records, the Threshold had opened more than 100 times, with intervals ranging from as long as three months to as short as three days.
For those inside to come out, they had to be in the right place at the right time.
All these difficulties resulted in only a tenth or twelfth of the soldiers returning from the Threshold, and the amount of ore they brought back was pitifully small.
With such heavy casualties, no one wanted to go, no matter how great the benefits the Federal Government offered.
But by then, the Federal Government had already assessed the development value of the Threshold from the few ores brought back.
It was worth it! It was incredibly worth it! Not only were the mineral resources valuable, but the fertile land was also urgently needed by the federation.
According to the federal demographic statistics this year, the population of the federation’s forty-two states had surpassed 10 billion.
Population had become a pressing issue that needed to be addressed.
However, this sudden emergence of another world seemed like a window opened by God for the Federal Government.
Occupy it.
Exterminate all species there, transform it into a habitable environment for humans, and it could be used for immigration.
Thus, the Great Species Extinction Plan became the most prominent and prioritized agenda among the many proposals of the federation.
With a goal in sight, it was necessary to move toward it step by step.
To implement the Great Species Extinction Plan, understanding these creatures was crucial.
Know your enemy and yourself, and you can fight a hundred battles with no danger of defeat.
Of course, “they” referred not only to the monsters but to everything within the Threshold, including terrain, mineral resources, natural climate, vegetation, animals, and even bacteria, fungi, and the viruses carried by those monsters.
But no army was willing to accept such a mission with no chance of return.
The Federal Government’s initial idea was to publicize the secret of the Threshold, allowing ordinary citizens eager for wealth to volunteer. The Federal Government would provide weapons and first aid supplies to each person entering, but with one condition: everyone had to carry a camera provided by the Federal Government to record their entire journey and hand over one-third of any items they brought back to the federation.
This way, as long as some people returned alive, the Federal Government could obtain a vast amount of information to analyze and compile.
Given enough time or a sufficient number of returnees, the federation would eventually gain a comprehensive and accurate understanding of the Threshold.
However, this plan did not succeed.
Too few people returned.
What do I say? As expected of the government? As expected of humans? Why am I not even shock that we act like pest.
