Developing Superpowers in Another World

Capital Accumulation

Chapter 24 – Capital Accumulation

The stones thrown at the wall were swallowed into it.

However, the first group of explorers still hadn’t returned.

No one knew what had happened to them inside, and no one knew whether they were alive or dead.

But their disappearance did not dampen the enthusiasm of other adventure fanatics, and more people teamed up to venture into that world.

This time, before they left, the federal government equipped each of them with sophisticated weapons, ample food, and various protective gear.

The “door” only remained open for a day. After these people left, as expected, it closed again.

Having learned from the previous experience, people were no longer so anxious. Instead, they watched and waited quietly for the “door” to open once more.

True to their expectations, on the seventeenth day, the “door” opened.

Someone had returned.

The returnee was one of the first group to enter.

He was covered in injuries but brought back rare information about the other world.

It was a pristine world, untouched by human pollution.

Everywhere were terrifying monsters, the smallest of which stood two or three people tall, while the largest was the size of a mountain.

Human weapons had no effect on them. These creatures would eat humans—no, they would eat anything. Some not only ate other species but also their own kind. Humans were barely a snack for them.

He recounted his experiences to the Federal Government.

As soon as he entered that world, he lost contact with his companions.

The door in the wall was merely a portal, transporting each person to different locations.

He was sent to a valley nestled between mountains and water. He wandered inside for a long time, covering a vast distance, but never found his companions.

When he entered, all the advanced automatic high-tech instruments he carried malfunctioned instantly. The communicator was useless, as were the sensors and scanners. Even the simplest compass he carried failed to work.

The only things that functioned were a camera and a gun.

During nearly two months, he encountered many monsters: monkeys with dozens of eyes, horned wild boars as tall as two-story buildings, and giant pythons with countless legs.

Fortunately, the gigantic monsters didn’t bother with a human who wasn’t even a mouthful for them. The real danger came from the smaller carnivorous animals, which were prey for the larger predators.

In this world of giant beasts, humans were like newborn infants, facing only death.

His survival was purely due to luck.

Of course, he didn’t only bring back the horrors of that world.

He also brought back: wealth.

Abundant mineral resources, precious gold, silver, and jade, and vast, fertile lands—these were things the ruling class of the Federal Government, the tycoons, couldn’t afford to miss.

Was it a dangerous, monster-filled primitive world?

No!

In the eyes of the tycoons, it was an untapped wealth kingdom, a future bedrock for the rapid accumulation of their family capital.

What did it matter if there were giant beasts? No matter how enormous, they weren’t invincible to steel and bullets. The elite soldiers of the Federal Government could certainly level them.

Thus, this world was given a name: “Threshold.”

Next, the tycoons completely sealed off the Threshold area, citing its danger and ordering everyone to stay away.

The Federal Government’s true aim was solely to monopolize the treasures within the Threshold. After all, most of the gems mined from the Threshold would later be sold at high prices to ordinary people.
