Stealing the Laser Gun

Chapter 202 – Stealing the Laser Gun

Tu Ran closed in on the monster, using its leg as leverage to propel herself upward. With both hands gripping the knife, she thrust it into the monster’s forehead, driving it straight through the skull.

The monster’s screeching came to an abrupt halt.

As she slowly withdrew the blade, the once-shiny surface was now pitted and corroded.

Disgusted, Tu Ran shoved the knife back into the monster, kicking it angrily before jumping off its body.

The force of her kick sent the genetic monster toppling backward to the ground.

Shen Yunhe watched the scene, forgetting to even blink.

“What are you standing there for? Hurry up and retreat, get out of here, don’t come back in,” Tu Ran ordered.

His condition was poor—his eyes were bloodshot, and the moss covering his combat suit continued to seep through. He needed to change out of his gear quickly.

“Alright,” Shen Yunhe responded dazedly, nodding twice before turning to head for the exit.

But all around him, people and genetic monsters were locked in fierce combat, with no clear path out.

One genetic monster noticed him, its eight legs rapidly alternating as it charged towards him, drooling repulsively.

Behind him, Tu Ran hoisted a machine gun, aimed it at the monster’s face, and pulled the trigger.

Two shots, both hitting it squarely in the forehead.

Even with the monster on the move, her aim was flawless.

Shen Yunhe was stunned: Wasn’t it said that the top student of the previous Pioneer Team had terrible aim?

This is considered inaccurate?!

Who started that rumor?!

The genetic monster’s movement slowed, the bullets striking its nerves, causing its legs to stumble and move erratically in different directions, making it even more grotesque.

Tu Ran calmly held the machine gun steady, closed one eye, and took aim, firing several more rounds.

The monster’s human-like skin was torn to shreds, its body repeatedly recoiling from the force of the bullets.

At this moment, planting an explosive charge would have been the perfect finish.

But she couldn’t do that.

There were still many pioneers and guards around, and using explosives would risk harming the innocent.

The monster’s vitality was too strong—though its eyes were blinded, it continued to claw and bite wildly, attacking anything in its path, regardless of whether it was one of its own. The already chaotic scene became even more disordered.

Tu Ran seized the opportunity to grab Shen Yunhe’s arm, pulling him through the chaos towards safety.

She moved with agility, her body swift and flexible, dragging Shen Yunhe along so quickly that he almost stumbled.

Fortunately, the chaotic battle zone wasn’t that large, and just as he was about to fall, they made it out.

The west gate was in sight.

Tu Ran released his arm, gave him a brief instruction to “walk the rest of the way by yourself,” and then sprinted back towards the battlefield.

Her figure quickly disappeared from sight, leaving Shen Yunhe to drag his weary legs towards the exit.

Tu Ran returned to the battlefield, making her way to Xie Xu, whom she had already noticed earlier.

He was holding his ground steadily.

Dealing with these genetic monsters was no challenge for him, given his abilities.

However, the sonic attacks had taken their toll on him; his face was pale, and it was clear he was struggling to endure.

Tu Ran sidled up to him and sighed, “You’re slipping, Xie Xu. I’ve already gone to support the eastern zone, and you’re still not done here.”

Xie Xu shot her a sidelong glance without replying, his blade slicing through the air with a sharp whistling sound, severing the neck of a genetic monster. Its head rolled to a stop at Tu Ran’s feet.

Tu Ran kicked it in disgust, sending the head flying towards the unsuspecting Ding Naiqing’s back.

Just then, Ding Naiqing turned his head, and their eyes met.

“Ah!!!”

Ding Naiqing’s mind went blank, but the habits he had developed over the years were ingrained in his bones. He reflexively swung his blade several times, splitting the head into several pieces.

“Who? Who’s so immoral? Why would anyone throw something so disgusting near me?” Ding Naiqing glared around.

Tu Ran shrank her neck, quietly turned around, and pretended nothing had happened as she continued to duel with the other genetic monsters.

Xie Xu glanced at her without expression.

Unable to find the culprit, Ding Naiqing had no choice but to temporarily put the matter aside.

When he got back, he was determined to check the surveillance footage and find out who had such a lack of public decency.

Tu Ran glared at the main culprit, Xie Xu.

He did it on purpose.

He intentionally threw that head at her feet.

Xie Xu chose to ignore her and focused on killing the genetic monsters around him.

Tu Ran noticed that he was only moving his right hand, while his left hand hung by his side, barely moving, only occasionally assisting the right hand.

“Are you injured?”

“Yeah,” Xie Xu replied calmly.

“Where’s the laser gun? I saw you holding it earlier.”

Xie Xu stabbed a genetic monster in the eye, pulled out the blade, which brought out a stream of blood, and the blade was slightly damaged. “It was destroyed,” he said.

“Destroyed? Where did you throw it?”

That was a laser gun, the best weapon against these genetic monsters, which couldn’t be killed by bullets and had corrosive blood.

Xie Xu pointed his blade towards a corner.

Amidst a pile of genetic monster corpses, the laser gun had been casually tossed there, its surface covered in a thick layer of dark green moss, barely recognizable by its smooth shape.

Tu Ran had an idea.

Her [Wheel of Time] could restore the laser gun to its original state.

By rewinding time just a few hours, she could have a brand-new laser gun without even expending much energy.

But she didn’t take action.

No explosions had occurred in the western zone, and the cameras were fully functional.

If she made a move, Zero would catch it.

Xie Xu, noticing Tu Ran’s sudden silence, glanced at her inexplicably.

He didn’t have mind-reading abilities, so while he sensed something was off about her, he couldn’t pinpoint what it was.

Tu Ran killed a few more genetic monsters for him, then gradually distanced herself from him.

With reinforcements arriving, the number of genetic monsters in the western district quickly dwindled.

In the blink of an eye, only a few were left.

Xie Xu, having endured the sonic attacks for too long, retreated outside the factory to rest.

Seizing the moment when he left, Tu Ran discreetly moved to the corner where the laser gun was.

Hidden by the corpses of genetic monsters, she felt the rough surface of the laser gun, enduring the moss’s corrosive effects on her fingers, and activated the [Wheel of Time].

Tu Ran rewound time by five years.

The laser gun, with its formidable firepower, had been produced ten years ago.

Five years ago, it was upgraded by the research institute, enhancing its performance in all aspects.

Xie Xu’s laser gun was one of these upgraded models, likely produced less than five years ago. To be safe, Tu Ran rewound to the farthest possible limit.

The intact gun instantly disassembled into a pile of parts.

Tu Ran gathered the parts, stuffing them into various pockets of her combat suit, as well as into her ammo pouch and rations bag—anywhere she could fit them, barely managing to carry all the pieces.

Then, pretending to be dizzy, she held her forehead and brazenly slipped out through the west gate.

Outside the Sankar Arsenal, medical personnel were stationed, with many rescue helicopters and temporary shelters set up for pioneers and guards to rest.
