Developing Superpowers in Another World

The First Time Playing with a Gun

Chapter 2 – The First Time Playing with a Gun

Dream or not, she had no intention of being eaten by such an ugly creature.

She fumbled around, searching for a weapon to defend herself.

A knife would be ideal.

Having studied medicine in college, though she was at the bottom of her class, she had a particular fondness for using knives. She wasn’t qualified to perform surgeries, but she was proficient.

However…

She found a handgun.

The heavy weight in her palm made Tu Ran’s entire body tremble.

Heaven knows, as a model youth of the new era, the only guns she had seen were on TV or used in video games; she had never even held a toy gun in real life.

Tu Ran’s heart, liver, and lungs trembled together. This dream world was way too wild!

She tried to find other suitable weapons and felt a round object in the pocket by her thigh.

A sense of foreboding arose in her mind.

Sure enough.

It was a bomb.

The design was slightly different from the grenades in anti-Japanese war dramas. This bomb had a shinier surface and a more high-tech look. As for the weight… having never held a real grenade, she couldn’t tell if it was light or not.

As she continued running, she searched herself for other items and found only two identical bombs.

She had an idea.

Another baby-like wail sounded; the giant chicken spirit was catching up.

Tu Ran took a deep breath and released the safety on the handgun.

As the massive black shadow of the chicken spirit swept over her, she squeezed the trigger.

Even if she’d never slaughtered a pig, she had at least seen one run.

Stopping her frantic run, Tu Ran straightened her arm, aimed at the creature above, and fired, “Bang!”

The bullet struck the chicken spirit’s thick belly.

The bullet rippled through the chicken spirit like a stone cast into a lake.

Tu Ran didn’t stop, continuing to fire relentlessly.

“Bang… bang… bang bang bang!”

The sound echoed through the sky, standing out starkly against the silence at the foot of the mountain.

The recoil from the gun pushed Tu Ran backward with each shot, leaving her wrist numb and aching.

She had fired twelve rounds, emptying the entire magazine.

But she wasn’t a sharpshooter.

Aiming for the chicken spirit’s eyes and legs, only one bullet hit its leg, as thick as a human’s thigh. The rest landed on its belly and wings, with a few missing entirely.

Despite the mixed results, Tu Ran felt satisfied.

The injured wing caused the chicken spirit to lose its balance, crashing to the ground like a collapsing mountain, sending up a cloud of dust that enveloped Tu Ran from several meters away.

She coughed, covering her nose.

The chicken spirit was enraged, its shrill cries hurting Tu Ran’s eardrums.

Flapping its wings in a futile attempt to rise, it only caused more blood to gush from its wounds.

Its blood was not like anything Tu Ran had ever seen, thick and dark green, with a foul stench.

Accepting its inability to stand, the chicken spirit stopped struggling, tilting its head back and calling out to the sky.

This cry was different from the angry screech it had directed at Tu Ran, more like a summoning.

Tu Ran stood by, thinking for a moment, then made up her mind and walked toward the still-screaming chicken spirit.

Better to blow it up for peace of mind.

She moved closer, ensuring she was within range for a deadly throw, pulled the pin on one of the bombs, and quickly tossed it into the chicken spirit’s gaping mouth.

Then she turned and ran.
